I have watched that many derailleur tuning videos that I have lost count and this one without a doubt is the best. Your in-depth explanation of the process is absolutely fantastic. It is such a good idea to tune the derailleur without the chain on.
Used your video last night to set up my upgraded 12sp shimano drivetrain. Easy to follow and understand, thanks so much for posting this. Now all i need is a few months, less snow and dry trails and ill be good to go! Greetings from Canada!
Excellent instructional video and very insightful while being easy to follow. This non-mechanic could not have done it without this. Big thanks and cheers to you!
Good no nonsense video as I've come to expect. I pretty much followed the routine in here before watching the video but wanted to check I wasn't being an idiot, as I could tell from the moment installing the RD-M8100 SGS derailleur on the hanger, it was never going to work on my bike as is. It wouldn't even reach the largest cog without touching the body of the derailleur before the stop low stop. So after some googling on some other MTB forums and looking at your video, I was surprised to find out these require a traditional mount hanger. Not direct mount. The detail is not very clear in a lot of online shopping websites and even shimano's own spec table does not really make it totally clear. I couldn't get the largest cog and the position of the derailleur looked all wrong. At one stage I was thinking of getting a longer B screw but eventually realised that wasn't going to fix it. And the lack of larges cog was due to the different offset on the direct mount hanger.!! It is quite a catch out if you are upgrading from 11Speed XT M8000 as well. I was scratching my head for a few hours yesterday thinking what is wrong. I had forgotten about direct mount versus traditional mount. Quite a few questions in these comments asking exactly the same and unanswered so thought I would post this. Thanks for the videos.
Much better than all the other videos. I just installed mine today and I got a bit wrong and ended up snapping a chain but that’s getting sorted and when everything I need arrives I’ll know what I’m doing know.
Thanks for clearly showing how the tabs are supposed to align when mounting the derailleur! Seems like every other video just totally skips over that part.
Great video. I'd also add that to dial it in even further you set the chain 5-7 cogs below the 51t. Turn the barrel adjuster out until the chain just rubs the next largest cog. As soon as it touches/makes noise, back off the barrel adjuster exactly 5 clicks and you'll be perfectly aligned.
Great video! One note on the B-screw adjustment. There is a line on the back of the derailleur indicating where the top of the teeth should be on the 51 tooth. Lining that up while looking from the non-drive side will give the exact gap for B-screw adjustment.
Excellent and thanks for simple no nonsense or BS guide, any guidance on direct mount challenges would be helpful as I’m having a mare setting mine so think the hanger is a problem!
Hi, perfect explaination, my chain is not able to match with the 51 tooth wheel, even when the L screw is at its max to the left, any hint please? All was done according Your instructions
@MotorcycleMan the screw is loose and derailler at its maximal left position and the guide wheel is not in the axis with the 51, it cant reach the biggest one
Yep, I have this same problem on my KHS 6555+ with the XT8100. I have the b screw completely out , it will shift into the 51 cog no problem but the cog is a 1/2 inch from the 51 line on the cage? I flipped to b stop to the front where it is not supposed to be and found a machine nut that threaded on to the B screw and just let the nut rest on the hanger b stop ledge, I was able to hit the 51 line with this less than ideal arrangement. I think I may have to take a dremel to my hanger and remove material to get the B stop to sit deeper in the hanger. I wonder if KHS put the wrong hanger on the bike. This is the same frame as the 2019 but it has the XT 11 speed rear derailleur.

I really like watching your maintenance videos. You don't leave any details out (unlike some other channels). Thanks!

Thanks dude! This helped a lot putting together the 9100 XTR
Thank you, it was great help since I don't have access to a mechanic nearby.
This is better than the parktool video
Great video! I basically just followed right along and got my new derailleur installed easy peasy. Cheers!
great job on this fitting series for the 8100 groupset. I will be installing 6100 soon so this is very helpful insight.

great video again! thnx a lot .
Thanks for the video!! What about that small lever “on” and “off” is it the clutch?
how many links on the chain did you use? did you cut it or not?
Nice and detailed tutorial. Did you know that this mech can be used in 11sp setup?
I am currently using it in that setup and works very good
Tks, 👍
Hi ..Great video , Many Thanks
Can I ask what frame is in the video ?
Thanks!
Do these derailleurs fit on regular mounts or do they require funky direct mount?
Great video! :)
Hey!
Is there any "universal hanger". I had m8000 derailleur and thought it was just plug and play procedure.
Sadly, it's not!
Can you tell me what the ‘bumper’ does? Mine fell off randomly today, and worried it’ll fall off again.
Do you need to adjust the barrel up at the shifter before doing all of this ??
Screw the barrel adjuster all the way in then back it out a turn before hooking up the cable!
Can you fit these 12 speed derailleurs to direct mount hangers?
The gears feel gritty through the pedals in the middle of the cassette, any suggestions?
Index it with clutch on or off ?
Off!
@@FreeToCycle thanks mate 👍🏻
Hey, surprised you didn't mention the b screw guide mark behind the top pulley to adjust b screw... 🤔
th-cam.com/video/A_9sxPi8zmE/w-d-xo.html
When I have no cable in my rear xt deore derailer it springs out to the largest sprocket. Why is this on the smallest with no cable????
great video thanks . can you fit mine for me please ?
it is compatible with XT sprockets. 10-45T and 10-51T
Wow, w/o the chains Im not sure how to do that indexing. 😆
You professor
3 stars
Thanks!
Great tutorial! Thanks!
