  • A mixture of nymph and dry, to produce one of my favourite flies for fishing up near the surface of the water.
The additional legs on this awesome little nymph, Dial Bach, really seems to catch more than the original when it's used higher up in the water column.
I use green as the underbody in this tying, red and pearl work as well, try each and see which you favour!

Tied this with GB number 3 (red). Mid December, nothing being caught, so I tried this and had 2 fish on consecutive casts. Brilliant pattern, thanks Steve

This is a perfect example of the parts coming together to create something magical. The main fault with most commercially produced Wee Devils is they tend to be massively overdressed. Looking chunky more beetle/corixa/snail. Rather than buzzer/nymph/pin fry. This method over a floss or floss under a translucent Mylar flat tinsel body is inspired. The legs change the way the fly presents itself in the water. With the bonus their movement gives more subtle indications of life. Can be effective year round as part of a team including hoppers or cormorants. They are only a hackle or wing deference separating them so could be a perfect multiple stage of hatch combination. Just offering my perspectives as an ole guy giving back to help both the newbies and give a nudge to the seasoned guys a nudge that might make a difference on a difficult session.

Nice fly, but what is the “Washing Machine“ technique you refer to? 🤔
