Someone mentioned this program today...And here i found it. Loved this back in the day, low key matter of fact presenting and humorous cartoons. Still stands the test of time 30 years later. very much still a great program.........
I always like sitting down in the evening once a week, putting Channel 4 on and watching Tim at work! Loved his weird machines he would make for the end of each show!!
Okay, I always knew that before I die somebody would find a way to mix Pink Floyd with Secret Life of Machines. Life complete! All gravy from here on out.
The reason the motor speeds up when the air is blocked is because the vacuum cleaner motor is a universal motor, which is simply a dc series motor adapted to run well on ac. Series motors speed up when disconnected from their loads; increased bearing friction in most household appliances prevents them from overspeeding too much. In other applications, however, a series or universal motor would, upon being disconnected from its load, speed up to the point of destruction.

That foot print machine that guy made is brilliant. Really clever effect made with simple parts.
I can't imagine that this isn't more popular!
I've owned a Hoover 'Nano Lite" upright for the past eight years The best vacuum cleaner I've ever had for under $120. Great on picking up cat fur.
The person who disliked this sucks. Must be a vacuous character.
