    Love the lost digit jokes.
Sounds like a bunch of the union sheet metal workers that I travelled and built huge furnaces and boilers with.

some UK narrow gauge railways used the same coupling system... still do. We hold the link up with an iron rod. No finger loss needed. the knuckle coupler is still a briliant invention.

Couplers and their pins is where the phrase "It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop" comes from.

I had the opportunity to visit the museum several years ago. It was amazing. A must visit for anyone interested in railroads and history.

I would like to see a tour of the Soo Line caboose. My dad was a brakeman out of Glenwood back in the 40s-50s.

The link and pin coupler is a nice example of capitalism.

How so? They didn't want to use 'em, even knowing it cost people their hands.

@@KennethStone Link and pin - Cheap. Significantly more dangerous. Preferred by the guys handling the money.
Knuckle coupler - Expensive. Significantly safer. Disliked by the guys handling the money.

@@richardmillhousenixon the guys handling the money loved it once they actually had them. The first patent of knuckle couplers could handle a train 4 times the length of the link and pin design.
