Mitch you have definitely impressed me with your editing skills and your work on this show. But that emirates card is defitneily a mistake 🤣. Funny laughing with you guys
I’ve heard that opening up an American Express checking account is one way to keep your American Express membership reward points - would that be something that you would recommend? I currently have the American Express Gold Card (opened up in May 2024), but I am not sure if it’s a card I would keep long term if I don’t get a good retention offer
Congratulations on 50 amazing episodes LGTTP crew! Excellent job! Love this episode - I think mistakes are part of the hobby and it just makes us better. With that said, I have had so many mistakes, including Amex clawing back my entire SUB, letting a lot of points expire, and as recently as last year, showing up at the airport at 245PM for a flight that was set to depart at 0245AM :( It was on Etihad biz booked using Aeroplan miles. Grrr. Etihad was charging me $$$$ to get on the next flight and Aeroplan said I had to purchase a new ticket. Had no choice but to book a replacement redemption that was 2x as expensive in a mixed cabin :(
Hi Kris and thank you so much for the well wishes. We would not have made it this far without the support of friends like you. Thank you for being here and for your support. It seems the AM/PM issue is such a common mistake! Grrr indeed. We empathize with you especially with having to book 2x in a mixed cabin. That had to have hurt. :( Fortunately, net-net we are winners by even participating in this hobby. Thank goodness for points and miles! Thank you for sharing your mistakes with us. All of us can benefit from learning from everyone's mistakes.
@@LetsGetToThePoints Yes, those mistakes are great learning experiences, and you're absolutely right - net-net, we are definitely winners!! I feel deep gratitude for stumbling upon this hobby of ours. We are truly blessed!
Mitch, nothing wrong with you buying points for Thai F class, the experience and memories made are priceless. Looking forward to the Spirit flight, hopefully no cancellations which just happened to my brother’s Spirit flight last week. I’m with you Miguel and Nicole, fell for purchasing IHG Ambassador status. Never got to use the very restrictive weekend only free 2nd night. The saving grace is the upgrade I got for the status at Kimpton Seafire in Grand Cayman. Will cancel Rosemont reservation and get HR O’Hare instead!
If you’re targeted, you might have this functionality online. Login on a desktop, check to see if the option is there under “I want to…”. If not, call and see if they can do it for you.
I fell with that IHG upgrade coz i was thinking of booking it coz we have Intercontinental in San diego and LAX and we had a planned trip in Dubai where they have Intercontinental hotel as well. The problem is, it was still very expensive for us.
I can relate to few mistakes and I am only in this game for about 8 months. Question, is there a trick to get approved for Barclays and CiTi AA cards? I have been declined for both for having opened too many cards and having too much credit limit. I will always have large credit limit and I’ll keep applying for cards so how do I get these cards. Btw, already tried recon line and no success!
Hi! Welcome to this wonderful world of points and miles! Sorry to hear about your AA card denials. If these are consumer cards, you might want to take a break from opening personal credit cards for a while. Stick to business cards from other banks and then try again with Citi and Barclays in 3-6 months. These bank algorithms are hard to crack and we all have issues at some point. You must be hitting it hard in your first 8 months! Good luck and please keep us posted.
It’s worth a shot if this is something you know or have heard to work in the past. If you’re in a rush to get these cards, then changing multiple levers might help. But if slower is okay, then adjust one lever at a time to narrow down what was actually impactful.
My worst mistake was, I was redeeming my CSP points in chase portal to book flights, even though my P2 has CSR . I didn’t know that I can transfer points across chase users if they live in same house 😅
Recently I booked an international budget flight, and the moment I clicked pay I felt an odd deja vu. Sure enough, I had bought the same tickets twice. My first purchase I had used a new portal, so it wasn’t filed where I normally track flights. When I tried to get it refunded only minutes after the purchase the airlines refused to refund it because I had accidentally misspelled my travel partner’s middle name. I’m still working on resolving this exasperating mistake. Btw, Mitch, given your really tragic matter with the Emirates card you shouldn’t now need to fly Spirit. That’s too much pain. But if the others insist, I’ll still want to hear the story.
😂😂😂 about the Spirit comment. Mitch will still be flying Spirit. He’s not getting out of this one. So sorry to hear about the double booking. Very exasperating they are not cooperating with you. Would you mind sharing the airline so we can tread carefully with them?
Booked the wrong date to go home for Thanksgiving in college - realized this at the airport attempting to check in the day after the actual flight. I was broke. Airtran agent took pity on me and rebooked me for free.
Wow, congrats to episode 50!!! Before I knew points and miles, I redeemed Asia miles for some duffle bags 😂😂😂. Then I let British airways avios expire because I didn’t know what to do with them. 😅 plus countless miles lost from all the paid flights I didn’t credit before I started the game in 2014. So… United miles for iPad sounds way better! 😬
I almost redeemed for an ipad with KF miles jist before watching this episode lol I did redeem a Insta360 Go3s. The miles were going to expire in 15 mins .. soooooo
Watching this mid-air on a long haul American Airlines flight from Tokyo to Dallas. Not really a mistake but due to living overseas, I don’t usually fly AA or OneWorld partners so I don’t have status and couldn’t upgrade my seat at a reasonable price. What isn’t a mistake is being a Hilton loyalist over every other brand. Coincidentally enough I’m staying at a Marriott property for this business trip, so I don’t fault Miguel for chasing Titanium but you will never catch me at a Hyatt; (I halfway cringe every time Hyatt gets brought up in the videos). Nonetheless, great video as always.
Thank you for tuning in on your flight! Oh dear! You must half way cringe every time Nicole speaks. 🤣 Don’t be shy. It’s okay if you full on cringe. 😜 We think you’ll enjoy next week’s episode…one MILLION Hilton points!!!
😭😭😭 We empathize with you. That had to have hurt. Please tell us more so we can learn from it. Did you miss the flight in real time? Or knew ahead of time and couldn’t make it?
@@LetsGetToThePointsI thought it was PM and my flight left AM 😢 because it was over 3 hours they couldn’t put us on next one or refund my miles. I’m trying to work with them. Wish me luck!

🤣🤣🤣 The Emirates card! He’ll be sitting in the Emirates lounge at the Australian open in January laughing at us.

The better option is to open a Blue Business card to keep the ability to transfer to partners.
