Dr Stephen Porges is the type of psychologist who seems to actually benefit from his findings... i find many lecturers boring and seem depressed, but Dr Porges seems so nice and friendly and a joy to listen to.

He’s not a psychologist - but the rest of what you say is true.

I love how much of this theory translates to the need for compassion and being there for one another.

    Interesting and troubling:
Not long after Dr. Porges spoke about the importance of bring present and listening to clients, the host on the left (sorry - they did not introduce themselves) jumped to (paraphrasing), "So, do you think technology is an answer for treatment?" Therein lies the problem of most of the medical profession! Of course the time pressure is an issue, but the inability to listen is probably a larger problem. Aside from that, excellent interview with vital information. Thank you!

I have vagal nerve damage, cervical instability and a traumatic brain injury, for 49 years.
I am legally disabled. I have been medically ignored my entire life. I keep saying I have systemic physiological issues. Ive experienced many severe traumas. I am barely hanging on. I need the help of people like you all, so I can find proper solutions. I have a high IQ, and have been researching all my life. I want to HEAL, not just mask my symptoms. I only seem to find ppl online who even have a clue about whats happened to me, but cannot find a local doctor who has any understanding. Im looking for online consultation, with testing set up locally. Can any of you help?

I hope this is not too off-topic. Im a teacher and as a mentor I do at least 1 one on one session with every pupil. Sometimes pupils won't look at me. I try to give them a safe feeling to be as kind as I possibly can, but most of those times they keep staring down. Ofcourse I keep being nice to my pupils, but it always make me unconfortable as well. Is there a better way for me to approach those children?

I would think a look at their family history and current situations at home would explain a lot.. not only that but no matter the age being treated with Respect and Compassion better known as kindness and hopefully begin earning their trust by staying consistent...most kids and other folks in general are taught that being one to one with an authority figure means they are in trouble or they have done something wrong
