      Pontiac and chevy engines were differint castings for many years and different colors along with other GM offerings. In the '80s General Motors, to save money, consoledated most engines and started unifing colors. Pontiac engines used to be light blue, and I could not find any 1982 Pontiac that were orange other than a few Knight Rider film cars with the TH350 automatic transmission. The TH350 also was not an option in the 1982 Trans AM. Paint the parts as you like its all in the vision and references you use. Just enjoy your model making. Thank you.

      Hell yeah, I was just wondering if the knight rider version was something special, I have the same kit that's on deck, I would have painted the engine blue otherwise...of course it's a minor detail but if I have the right info I'll try to keep it as accurate as possible

    Doug, as a kid, I loved watching Knight Rider, good memories. The, build looks great, and the tips of the mixer is spot on. I use the channel lock method to open stuck paint bottles. More mechanical advantage, however, you can get a nasty surprise if you squeeze too tight. I'll have to try the bottle opener.

    This is the first model kit my brother got. I was 8, he was 9 back in 1985.
    The Knight Rider series was on air at that time in Canada.
    He was very stress, and he crack the windshield by mistake (did not realize he had it in his hands).
    So, Kitt end off with a 1/2 inch smudge of glue, in diagonal line, all over the windshield!!!

    There’s a slight degree of differences between the original Fundimensions-era MPC example, and this reissue…primarily with the body. The lower air-extraction vents on the original version are gone, the body side “rub-rail” was added, as was the molded insignia for both the GTA and the ‘89 20th anniversary Turbo T/A Indy Pace Car versions. Removed all of this from my reissue to better match my original….it’s an MPC model kit, so expectations are managed😆 yours came out great!

    Is it okay to glue the pieces and paint with brushes inside the house? Considering the fans are going. I would use spray paint outside. I live in an apartment and want to give it a shot

    • @RightOnReplicas

      Raz, With good ventilation brush painting is fine without a respirator. For spray painting a spray booth with exhaust should be used inside though. Thanks for watching and please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers! -Doug

    I always liked the hood scoop of the second gen and 3rd gen trans am the reason why the first 3rd gen trans am had the turbo hood scoop was carried over from 1981 turbo TA because Pontiac was going to use the same 4.9 liter 301 for the 1982 ta but unfortunately GM force Pontiac to cancel out thier engine assembly after 1982

    I just can't get over the hump when it comes to using acrylics. I have really great results using testors thinned with
    weak lacquer thinner . Don Yost got me into cutting enamels with lacquer thinner and shooting very thin layers of paint,sometimes 15 coats.
    I would like to flip Rustoleum the bird for discontinuing a good chunk of testors paint line,especially metalizer.

    • @RightOnReplicas
      @RightOnReplicas  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      HH, It will take some practice to effectively use acrylics. They can be used to paint nicely but I've found that on my automotive subjects where cutting and fitting has to be done after the body is painted - acrylics are easily damaged from handling compared to enamels and lacquers. A nice job but this model is much poorer than when it was out in the beginning. Missing are the fender air extractors and the factory dual resonater exhaust.when mpc re tooled the kit for the cars made after 1982 those parts were removed from the kit. Even the center console between the front seats is the design found on 1985-up not the original 1982-1984 square shape.The Aoshima models are far far more accurate than this kit especially in it's current form..

    • @RightOnReplicas
      @RightOnReplicas  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bob, I'd say you're right. The Aoshima model (2008) is better detailed than the MPC release (1982). And they had about 25 years of mold development time to improve and add a dramatic increase in price. Thanks for the information! -Doug
