- Decided to do a facelift by removing the front grill off my 2017 Lexus GX460 and installing a 2020 front grill. For the most part, its plug and play. No major modifications involved except for the Lexus logo emblem (some plastic trimming involved).
New Update: Your 2020 new grille is see-thru. If you have a white crossbeam behind your grille as i do, i would paint it black.
Cost of everything to do the facelift.
Top Grille #5310160G30 = $542.38,
Bottom Grille #5311260340 = $139.93.
YOU NEED BOTH GRILLES TOP AND BOTTOM.

I bought both top and bottom grille at Bell Lexus in Scottsdale, Arizona because of No Tax and Free Shipping promotion going on till the end of August 2020. I did not purchase an emblem because the cost was upwards of $300 for an OEM 2020 Lexus (which is ridiculous).
First, Thanks Bob. I completed the "facelift" on my 2015 GX this weekend. Couple notes for people who have front parking sensors and headlight washers. For the headlight washers, there is a main line in passenger side wheel well that splits to each headlight washer. Just clamp off the mainline and detach the connector before the split. The connector is easy to clip off and reattach. Worst case if you don't clamp off the line, all your fluid will pour out so not a huge deal. The parking sensors pose a problem however, the pre-2020 sensors will not fit into the newer grill "perfectly. So I had to "modify" mine and zip tie them in place on the new grill (purely cosmetic and cannot be seen once the grill is reinstalled). Just wanted to give you folks with parking sensors a heads-up that the new grill will not be 100% "plug and play" and will take a little jerry-rigging. That said, my project took me 3 hours from start to finish and that includes the time to dremel out the plastic for the old emblem to fit into the new grill.

I just completed mine last night- took advantage of Lexus Bellsouth Labor Day sale and no sales tax! I figured out the trick for the parking sensors- if you cut the tops of the heat glued bracket it will come off and you can use your old bracket to hold on the parking sensors. The front camera however was a pain and took the greatest amount of time to fit. For my 2018 gx, there is a support bracket that is left exposed, so I either have to paint that black or cut off the locking plate from my old grill and use it on the support bracket to cover the bar ( mine is white). Now that I know how to remove the grill, it will be easy to go back and fix…. Then there is the license- I hate covering any part of the grill… maybe I will attach it to the lower bumper 🤷🏽♂️

becareful as there are several versions of these headlamps that give error codes. Make sure you buy one that state "error free". Or else you are in a world of headaches.

Thanks Bob, made the installation easy AF! I almost forgot the hood seal until I saw your other video. LOL There's not trimming needed for the emblem if you buy an aftermarket grille. Also I painted the cross piece black so you don't see it through the grille.

Got this one done today on my 2015 using OEM 2020 grill from Lexus dealer. The grill itself fits good into the bumper surround. The parking sensors took the most time to alter and fit using super glue to ensure they didn't move. I recommend cutting out the emblem slot and attaching the emblem onto the grill prior to reattaching the bumper to the GX460 (its just easier). Took me about 2 hours to complete mostly due to the alterations I had to make on the sensors. but it came out great.

@@GXBOB Thanks for the like. My 2018 is the luxury level and has two front sensors. The link provided good info with pictures on how to install the sensors from a 2018 to the new 2020 grill.
Mr. GX$Bob, well finally did the grill change from my 2018. Came out excellent. Only issue I had was modify the from sensor installation. Little Dremel, little silicone glue and a black wire tie. Looks great. I also noticed that I have water noses running to an area that is blanked off which is for the headlight washer that come some versions. I had to pinch off the main line in. No biggie. Since I save about $100 from Bell Lexus, I went ahead and purchased to newer Lexus emblem. Planning on selling the old grill and emblem to recoup some monies. If i had your email I would send you a before and after picture. By the way, I have told a few folks about your videos especially about the face lift one. Thanks again. Next mod is blinker LEDs and running boards LED’s. Keep it up.

@@GXBOB oh I also ordered and returned the weathertech rain guard I should have listened to you and shouldn’t have order it the driver side window wouldn’t close it went up and went back down again and I had to hold the button and wiggle the guard for it to close stressing out the motor, so I returned it
@@GXBOB I only see 2 no name brand stick on rain guards out there I like the one you installed on your GX but when I added it to the cart on Amazon it states it doesn’t fit the GX 2022 so I still don’t have rain guards on my Gx 460

Well i can confirm that a lot of products on Amazon will state it won't fit the 2022 because the mfg or supplier did not update their websites fitment charts and thats why it states that on Amazon. You also have to understand a lot of these distributors know nothing about our vehicles. I would go ahead and order it on Amazon and do the physical fit up yourself. Its plastic and can be dremeled very easily. The bonus part is that Amazon's return policy is second to none. Go for it.

Hi Bob, I’m thinking of getting a steel bumper for my GX. My only concern was if I might mess with a crash airbag sensor. I’m not sure if it has one so I was wondering if you noticed anything that resembled it? I know the GX also has a crumple zone but I’m curious if I would affect any airbag by getting an aftermarket bumper

All the wiper replacements are universal on the Lexus. All the generation GX has the same type of clip adaptor that comes with every wiper package. Super easy.

I just picked up a new to me 2014 Premium with 46K and I have to say you are a bad influence! I’ve been addicted to your videos for the last week and already have a point of attack! I’m going to order parts on Monday after work hopefully to do the grille mod. On the GX forum a member mentioned that you would also need 52719-60040 which is a $150 molding. Obviously if I don’t need it I rather use that money for other items that I’m going to blame on Mr. GX Bobs peer pressure!! Love the content you are very informative but also Uber entertaining.

Bob, you notice any issues with your bumper cover not fitting snug by the headlights? On the Clublexus forum a lot of individuals have issues with the bumper cover pulling away from the headlight and fender. Curios how those clips worked when you reassembled the cover to the vehicle. They are reporting to Lexus to see if a "fix" can be issued by Lexus, seems this is more than a "one off" issue with the bumper covers.
I did get that with my 1st and 2nd generation GX's. Fortunately, i did not experience it with my first reinstall on my 2017. Clips were new and still tight as hell. It held up pretty well. But i do know what you're talking about.
Great video! I have a 2017 GX460 and I am going to change the grill. Do you know if it affects any warranties?
If your grill has sensors attached, it might void warranty as you have to custom install them back into the 2020 grille. As far as powertrain and mechanical warranties, I doubt it.

One very odd question:))). When you changed the grill to a new one, did you notice that, (and it bothers me now) the bumper middle horizontal part is white, and you can easily see it behind the grill? I’m thinking to paint this part now (the cheapest solution), but I wonder how it looks on 2020 model (rhetoric question I guess:)))
Yes i mentioned this a couple times on my other videos. I used wide black tape instead of paint and it looks fine now. Not noticeable.

@@GXBOB yeah... it's b/c those trip beam lights only really "work" (auto-adjust) when connected to the Safety Sense camera/sensors that only come on the 2020-newer GX.

Is the emblem in the new grille in the exact same location as my current grille? I just want to make sure there no interference with the new grille. Thanks!
Hi Grant! If you go thru some of the comments below, you’ll also find some people mentioned additional modifications that my base model didn’t have to do. I have no way of answering your sonar question but i also found clublexus forums full of valuable help when people started attacking this upgrade.

I chose not to put a license plate holder because it's ugly. I"ve had the car for awhile and have passed by many many highway patrol officers. Not once have i gotten pulled over for it. If u decide to go that route, you would have to buy a license plate holder from the dealer.

Way ahead of you. I'm trying to capture sponsorship but a couple of them didn't like my unprofessionalism in some prior video and kindly denied me. Its a little expensive for me to buy on my own since i'm going to sell my car and get another GX to start over again with better updates.
Just did. Mines man it was hard with the camera. I got the dermal and had to take my time cut out the hole for the camera. The one it comes with is too small. It took a min but I got it. It looks amazing. Remember if you have the front camera you want grille part number Part No.: 53101-60G40. Good luck. Thanks man you help me a lot. Switching out inside lights next.

Thank you for a detailed video and your attention to details. I am thinking about upgrading my 2015 front grill to 2022 front grill. Lexus is running a promo where I can get top and bottom grill for $689 including taxes, shipping. But ebay have one for $450 including taxes and shipping, my question is how's everyone experience buying on Ebay and any knows issues or problems with discoloring etc yet?
I avoid ebay at all cost. The costumer service is lacking. The return and exchange is nonexistent. I would pay the extra for peace of mind.

Sorry, I have never made an attempt to install the lips but I'm sure it's not too difficult. I would have some tap screws on hand with 3M double sided tape.

Bob, this is great! I was literally just thinking about doing this project. Perfect timing! Hard to see it, but does your top grill (5310160G30) have the spot for mounting the front camera under the Lexus emblem? I have a 2019 Luxury and it has the front camera.
I do not see any cameras mounts under my emblem. I only see 2 holes on my bottom grille. I think they're for parking sensors. I would call Belle Lexus parts dept and ask to be sure. They're really nice and helpful people.

My base model does not have parking sensors.
Hi bob, can i use the part- 5310160M10 instead of 5310160G30. Its a grey finish top grille instead of crome, and use the bottom for 53112-60340.
It looks like it’s compatible. As long as the fitment is for the 2020+ GX460, you should be good. Just keep in mind that they’ll be extra steps you’ll have to figure out if u have cameras or parking sensors. Read other comments below and it should guide u in the right direction. Good luck

Hi Bob I was about to order but when I order the exact 2 parts with the parts number you provided, website is saying it fits model 2019 to 2022, but I am assuming it fit your 2017 model so it should fit in my 2015 model too ?
It will fit 2014 and up. Just bare in mind if you have parking sensors, you’ll have to do additional modifications. Not that difficult, there’s a few posts on that subject to guide you.

@@polkmammoth1 I did look into the new one but when i window shopped around for one during that time, they were super expensive unlike the $50 ones you find on eBay for older models. The good thing about the older ones is you can spend the money you saved by plastic dipping it in black or have a body shop paint it metallic black. I eventually want to do black emblems and keeping the old emblem was the way to go.
Lucky you have the base / premium trim so no need to worry about the front logo camera + RCC sensors . Possibly they might + recalibration 😬

Question regarding sensors on the new 2020 grille? I recently bought the upgraded grille for my 2016 GX460. My 2016 sensor clips are not matching up with the new 2020 clips..My mechanic says he might have to cut and use epoxy to get it to work.. Wondering if you have any ideas or insight on adapter clips that match up? To avoid any type of cutting ? :( You seem to only have the Base model w/o sensors... @GX*BOB

Why did you remove the bumper? I can access it all the screws from the top except for the two bottom corner screws which can be reached from below.
There are many many approaches to doing this but this way makes for a better tutorial angle instead of routing a camera with one hand and removing screws with the other hand, all in a dark confined space.

Mark, not all dealers give the same price. My local dealership charges more than if i ordered it from an out of state Lexus dealer. I've had really good luck with Belle Lexus in Arizona because they also sell their stuff on amazon. Plus, they were giving discounts during covid-19 for awhile. Not sure if that sale is still ongoing but during that time, shipping was free too.
Hi do you know if the exterior door moldings on the earlier GX460 models can be removed to look like the 2021+ doors? I’ve read they’re either held by adhesive or clips with holes, thought you may know. Thanks

@@MR-06 Gotcha. I've done quite a lot of mix and matches between years but have never considered the black trim exchanges. I would rather try to do the plastidip or hyperdip route than to spend the Lexus OEM parts costs to do the upgrade. I did consider it. To answer your question...i do not know nor have i ever crossmatched them.
I don't think facelift is complete without swapping the headlights as well. Did you have any pointer on affordable headlight upgrade?

Lucien, the bumper is identical. Changing out the grille doesn't affect the outline of the old/new bumper. So i'm sure you can still add the sports lip.

I chose to leave the ugly license plate off. Who knows, I might get a ticket and resort to installing one in the near future

I tried to order parts from my local dealer in SF, which was pretty expensive - then I called the dealership you mentioned in AR, and it was a great deal! - just like it says in the description under your video. Plus, free shipping. Thank you, Bob, for the instructions! Installed and it looks fantastic, but unfortunately got a FIX ticket and I do have to install a license plate - I'm thinking about a side mount, but I couldn't find anything that fits my SUV.
@@SamAtake Your best best is doing a custom bracket. The minute i get a fix it ticket, i will consider making a bracket. But until then, i'm gonna ride without one.

Peter, i believe some other folks mentioned the same thing within the comments . They modified it to make it fit. I'm not able to attempt it as a tutorial since i don't have that issue. But i'm sure if you stare at it enough, you'll figure out how to remove it from your oem and attach it to your new bumper.

yes you can and i listed all the parts and part numbers below my video. Click on the title and a drop down should appear with the body of the description including my commentary. Bare in mind that there needs to be other minor modifications if you have parking sensors/ headlight washers, etc...but just scroll down the comments and you'll see a few people talk about it. Its fairly simple and straightforward.

yes you can. Alibaba sells the 2010-2013 conversion to 2020 kit. Not cheap but hey.....if you got the money go for it.

i believe my 2017 front emblem comes in 2 parts from the dealer. 75311 is the emblem and 75312D is the base plate it sits on.

Question for you Bob. Was there a reason you were not able to use an original chrome molding, which wraps around outboard corners of the original grille. I noticed when you purchased a 2020 grille, you also purchased a new molding as well..
Nope. No new moldings were purchased. The original moldings stayed intact. Only the top and bottom grill were changed out
@@GXBOB I take your word for it. It just looks like in the video, when you removed the old grille from the bumper and you move it out of the way, the chrome outer molding stays on the old grille. Then, on the same take of the video, you begin to connect the bottom piece with the top piece of the grille.
And I see other (chrome or nickel finish) outer molding preinstalled on the upper portion of the 2020 grille. From my previous lexus project experiences, I know that chrome piece is usually sold separately. And I am just curious will the original 2014-2019 chrome molding will fit 2020+ grille? And if it does, is there a reason you did not remove yours from the original grille and reinstalled it onto the 2020 grille? Thanks again.
@@freedomisnotfree3536 ahhhhhhhh now i know what you’re talking about. I had to watch the video again to make sure. The old grille and original molding was replaced with a new 2020 grille and molding. When you order from the Lexus dealer, the new moldings come attached already. They don’t come separately or sold separately.

I love your videos. I have a 2015. I went to the dealership and I was quoted a price of $850 for a 2020 grill. I haven't made the purchase yet because I was told that it can not be returned if it dont fit. Im also concerned with the installation because I have a Luxury model. Have you done any changes on a Luxury model, if so what advice can you give me, also can you give me the part number, thanks.
Raynard, i made a list of the parts, price, and where i purchased them from in the body of the video description. I'm sure luxury models, you're going to have to take extra steps for your parking sensors and what not but read the rest of the comments below and it'll show that people have also gone for it regardless of the additional mods. Its not too difficult.

You remind me of my father. Old Asian mentality. Really really old way of thinking. What you describe as work is considered a fun hobby to me. What you describe as waste of money is considered money well spent. That’s why i taught my children to not judge other people. Do what makes you happy. Spend what you can afford. In the end, you are the one that will stand back and be proud of what you accomplished in your quality of life. That’s why i would never question why you do what you do to your house or car or anything else. But if i have to answer your rhetorical question, the answer is yes, it made the truck better…. For me and that’s the only person that matters. I’m very glad i have been in America long enough not to resort back to the old way of saving money and being practical and i know my children will thank me for it. 😎

I've seen clips of 2010-2013 models changing thiers to the newer face. But it looked like they converted the whole bumper.
I haven't seen any write ups or clear videos as most I've seen are crappy vids with no explanation.

Hey Kaizen, i can't say that i have. I know of one person that have purchased my 2017 grilled to do a install on his 2010 generation but i don't think he did a tutorial on it.
Where did you place the original parking sensors? I am mid install and am considering placing them in a nearby slot.
My model did not come with parking sensors. This is where you're going to have to depend on your own creativity.
@@GXBOB I found I was able to use one of the waffle openings adjacent the OEM ports that had the center support behind it to firmly place a sensor. I secured the sensors with small black zip ties to keep everything keep pointing true and straight. It is actually invisible to the eye and only took one adjustment to keep from experiencing a occasional phantom false reading. Please with the end product.

2011 doesn’t the hourglass cutout like the 2014 and up does. So it won’t be plug and play. Yours will require more extensive work and another bumper. People have done it but i haven’t yet

Peter.....yes you can but your access will be challenging. The reason why i took my bumper off is to have better camera angles to show you which fasteners to take off. But typically i take the route that provides wide access due to me looking at everything while its taken off. You end up learning a lot about your car, its sensors, its cameras, the foglights, etc when you have a open view. Unless you like working in cramped spaces with your body leaned over for an hour, i would just go the extra mile and drop the bumper cover....trust me its pretty easy.

Absolutely William. Only difference is yours has a different secure latch sticking out of your carpet in the front seats. If you remove them, the floorliners will lay flat. Since these are floor liners and not floor mats, the custom contour will keep the liners from shifting and sliding out of place.
