Why people don’t want to work anymore

  • My own personal take on this issue can be summed up with, these companies just want more for less. Both on an employee and customer level. They bow to their almighty dollar. It doesn’t seem worth it anymore to work at a place that doesn’t pay enough to get by in life

I’d like to add one note. I forgot to mention that I wanted to renegotiate my hours too. I asked to go part time because It would free up my time to do something more productive.

It might have something to do with the fact that people do not see the point in working for something that they do not truly own or they cannot enjoy.
For instance, our ancestors worked to have a house, have some land to cultivate and have food to put on the table. You cannot own a house while you have to pay a loan for it...same for the car and for the land....and when you finally do own these things, the simple owning is taxed so high that you feel better just selling what you own because it's cheaper.
This is not new to history...for those who lived under the iron curtain, it was simply called communism or ' the equally partitioned poverty'.

The reason why I don't want to work anymore?
    1. Females in the workplace
    2. Cultures that are in place in work environments that exclude people based on age, race, sex, political views
    3. Companies will let you go for no good reason other than wanting to save their bottom line
    4. Company will let you go because someone higher up doesn't "like" you
    5. Company will let you go if they feel you are too much of a legal risk due ageism, racism, sexism, political views
    6. Considering the above mentioned items combined with poor wages that don't keep up with inflation, yeah I have been deprived of the motivation to want to work.
    7. Having to deal with people making false accusations against you.

@@WatchThisJC I can agree with that overall conclusion, the future appears bleak. But I don't think humans have ever found meaning in their work, it has always been a means to provide for their family, which for the first time in humanity most young people don't have.
You know who never thinks about quitting their job? People with kids.
My conclusion, and it lines up more appropriately with the timeline, is that we have completely destroyed the typical "nuclear family" and our sense of purpose for life along with it. The phrase "children are the future" has many meanings.

@@What-go8ngOh Mr. Big shot boomer is it? You want to know why people are searching for fruits? Well let me tell you boomer - the reason people don't want to work today is because they saw boomers like you working for 10 years and being able to afford a 4-BHK with a yard, picket fence, dog and car, and still have time left on weekends to go with your family to Disneyland or Yellowstone. YOU, yes you, are the ones who kept telling us while we were growing up, that if we work hard, get a high school diploma, go shake the retail manager's hand at the local Costco to get a job, and work for 10 years, then we will be able to do the same things that you did. Well guess what boomer - an entire generation is now finding out that you boomers have been lying to us all this time. You have bought all the land, all the houses, used up all the resources, and now us millennials and GenZs have nothing left to take. Even if we work ten times as hard as you did, we won't get anything more than an 800 sq.ft. cardboard box in some back alley of a polluted city, and all we will have at the end of it all, is high blood pressure and endless migraines. So YOU got the fruits of your labor, with your big houses and fancy cars, but WE, the people who have to now pay your f\*king pensions even though you are millionaires, WE won't get any fruits, branches or even a LEAF for all the work we put in. THAT'S the difference. Got it boomer? Now go sip your margaritas on your beach resort while we bust our asses to keep running this junk of an ecosystem you have left us.

The “fruits of their labors” were things like community, children, family, maybe a little real property. More money and time for silly vacations isn’t going to fix the malaise.
Someone should look into the works of Durkheim again. This happened before, back in the France of the mid 19th century. Things had improved greatly for many people, but self-deletion was through the roof. We’re kind of at that point now in the US.

You're right that your efforts should lead you to something better, but your perspective is wrong. You admit you had attendance issues and yet you still had the audacity to ask for a raise...why would they give a raise to someone who has proven to be unreliable? Your short term goal if you're at the bottom of the ladder should be to differentiate yourself from your piers, and make it known to your superiors that you want MORE responsibility.
