We don't eat cheese on our pancakes people. That's just wrong. And liege syrup is not the most popular topping that you put on pancakes. The more popular things we put on our pancakes are White sugar, brown sugar, Cassonade (kinnekessuiker), jam, Nutella, or ice cream with whipped cream and chocolate sauce.
omg,so glad that I live in belgium and although I had some pretty bad stuff that happened to me (a TBI,traumatic brain injury in 92),it evolved into a frontal lobe syndrome, that makes that I don't have any limits regarding eating,a bit of drinking wine too but not problematic, and an added feature is lovemaking.....I love food,I love wine and I love love....and I have a medical excuse lol, been married for 20 years (almost) and she still is here with me,although she admits that the only reason that she stays with me is my cooking lol....us belgians have the best cuisine in the world,as stated french quality with german quantity, and due to climate change,Belgium tends to pass the french for wine (now quoting Jerry Lee Lewis : Goodness, gracious, great balls of fire)
as a belgian i aprove of 11 out of 12 dishes. also why is everything in french, most dishes are from flanders and we dont speak french... we speak, like we say here, vlaams.(flemish). some bits are somewhat incorrect but overall a great suggestion of our local dishes. small note, the filet american is more commonly known as 'prepare' - pronounced preh-parr-ee. some auditional dishes that need to be mentioned... stoofvlees ( meatstew) is a well known dish usually with fries. black pepper sauce steak with fries is also very common and a belgian classic. and lastly, something in flanders we call a frituur ( kinda like a snackbar but with many many options) is a place that offers a wide range of snacks that go with fries, you can order healthy baguettes with alot stuffed in them (smosjes). they now have these in different countries aswell, but as someone who has travelled to most of europe, tokyo and to the usa, its nothing quite like how we make them here, making them a deserved spot for mention aswell.
Hello from Belgium! Great video, mostly correct information about our food. My compliments! But why did you only use the french name of the dishes ? With the flemish name added it would be more usefull.
If you are referring to the video, those aren't hot dogs, you barbarian :) They're sausages made from minced meat. And yes, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, that's how they are best.
its mostly classical dishes, you will hardly find any historic food thats up to modern time vegetarian style. they exist.. but the majority will not be. that said, waterzooi is usually completely vegan if asked, just vegetables in a thick vegetable soup.
you forget vol au vent and carbonade flamande (stoofvlees)
Great video

Me to
What a shame you did not eating all of this
I want to add spices to all of those 😅. A pepper here and there sure would help.
Yep
Nah, not a single recipe here would benefit from peppers. Would just off balance the flavours the dishes are trying to present.
I would like to try waterzoii, Belgian fries, croquettes, stoemp, anguilles vert, sole monier, fruit syrup, Belgian meatballs, & Chicon Gratin
❤❤❤🌹🌹

How does the food from the Belgian Congo I guess you would call that African Fusion effect the motherland
The difference is fries everyday.
Do belgians like hot dogs cooked to crisp

Hardly anything for vegetarians seems like.Even the frites are cooked in beef fat apparently
They used to, but due to health regulations and catering to vegetarians, it's just vegetable oil nowadays, even in the frituur (frites shop)
Oh, and just because it is not in this list, doesn't mean we don't have vegetarian food.
