Your video quality this spring, and the knowledge you've shared throughout these videos is second to none. You have helped me tremendously in transforming my property into a deer habitat. I was able to speak to Dr. Grant on the phone a while back, so that plus all the content here has made learning all this a breeze. I know I speak for so many when I say thank you and please keep up the good work. Daniel in NC
I like the format you've been using lately. A main instructive session followed by a short pointer. As always thanks for the content. Glad to see you're putting those interns to work!
Loving the new plot, I'm also in the process of getting my half acre food plot cleared and was hoping you could point me In the right direction on what I should plant.
Sounds like it will be primarily for hunting over. Eagle Seed's Broadside blend is a mixture of turnips, radishes, wheat, and even soybeans. It is a great attractant during the early, mid and late season! You can see Broadside at work here: www.growingdeer.tv/archive/#/deer-hunting-bucks-on-the-move -Daniel
Hey Daniel, I was totally off I got to thinking I was wrong so I went home and checked and that was my older matthews bow that was 70lb my pse is set at 60lb and the draw length is 29" not 27.5 that is my arrow length. Sorry about that ; feel like an idiot
Valuable info as usual! On a side note I'm thinking of changing from pse radial x weave to blood sport arrows and was wondering what particular model and grain you all use. I wanted to get them now and start shooting them to site them in before the season. Thanks! Jeff
We currently shoot Bloodsport's Evidence (micro-diameter arrows) but have also shot the Hunters. Both have worked great! Grant shoots a 400 spine arrow and I shoot a 350. -Daniel
GrowingDeer.tv Your welcome! I'm a big fan of your guys work and have been trying to manage my deer herd and habitat too and I'm going to be trying to ask my neighbors the same thing. Because we all hunt. Sorry for the long paragraph.
That's great! Getting your neighbors on board is huge! We recently formed a deer coop. You can see more about our coop and our meetings here: www.growingdeer.tv/archive/#/why-the-forest-deer-and-wildlife-need-fire Keep us updated on your work! -Daniel
Sorry to pester you about this but I sure appreciate the help! My draw weight is 69 or 70lb and draw length is 27.5 I shoot a pse axe6 bow maximum poundage set
What would be the best way to plant a food plot in a horse pasture. Would it be good to put up 3 rows of barb wire? Would I need to put a shooting house up in the air where I'm lease likely to shoot the fence come rifle season?
Colin, Eagle Seed makes a fall blend called Broadside. It is a mixture of wheat, turnips, radish and even soybeans (for early season attraction). I would spray the pasture to kill the weeds then broadcast the seed at least 45 days before the first frost. Is the barbwire fence to keep the horse out? If it is for the deer, the best way to keep the deer out is the three strand electric fence. Here is a video explaining how we build it: www.growingdeer.tv/archive/#/food-plots-a-great-tool-to-improve-hunting-quality If you can be elevated, that would be best. Keep us updated on your project! -Daniel
I disagree with the interns, where space is limited to start with and deer are pounding the forage hard, I'd tend to lean towards as much tonnage as possible for food and worry about hunting opportunities later.
I completely understand. It was a tough decision for us. We had know arguments could be made for both sides. The great part is, as land mangers we get to create these plans and see if they do or don't work. If they don't we change it. We may end up deciding that we do want more tonnage on this portion of the property and expand it even more or add another food plot. We will keep you updated on the progress of this food plot. -Daniel
One of Grant's favorite hunts was when he harvested Handy! You can see that hunt here: www.growingdeer.tv/archive/#/deer-hunting-mission-accomplished-tagging-handy -Daniel
Bret, Yes - mulies and elk will readily use l quality forage if it's located where they are that time of year! I'm surprised more hunters don't use food plots for mulies. Enjoy creation, grant
Even on small acreage, you can practice great management! The key is to look at the surrounding properties and find out what the limiting resource is. Do deer need food, cover, security or water on that small 50 acres? Identify what the best use of that land is for deer. There are many other ways you can still practice quality management on small acreage. -Daniel
We use a bled of Eagle Seed clover. The blend allows for different maturity times so there is more forage longer! We also like to mix winter wheat into our clover plots and have seen great results! You can see the benefits of clover mixed with wheat here: www.growingdeer.tv/archive/#/how-to-maximize-food-plots -Daniel
Wildlife is a hard field to enter. Internships, field experience, quality education, and networking are all important parts of entering the wildlife field. Have you thought about working with wildlife? -Daniel
I appreciate the last part where he talked about God but this isn't a very natural way to do things. I don't have much respect for this style of hunting.
GrowingDeer.tv The style of hunting where you use 10s of thousands of dollars worth of equipment and resources farming deer then shoot a big one and think you are a great hunter.
Many of the habitat projects and hunting strategies that we share can be applied to any size of property across the white-tail's range. It may be on a smaller scale but it can be done and can have great results (land owners reaching their personal objectives). I would love to answer any questions you have about how to approach small property management. -Daniel
Never knew the facing-North rule for trail cams. Another episode; another one to two fantastic factoids.
Thanks Ghillie!
Thanks again! I can't wait to catch your hunts this fall. I really enjoy the way you'll produce
Thanks Olen!

Them and the info is very beneficial in the way I go about planning my hunts. Thanks so much for all your hard work.
Thank you for watching Olen!
Man I am envious of the knowledge those interns are getting!
They learn a lot in the field that they can't learn in the classroom! -Daniel
Looking forward to seeing that plot when its all finished up.
We are too! Can't wait to hunt it! -Daniel
Thanks so much! I'm looking forward to getting them and seeing how they work this fall.
No problem Olen! Keep us updated on your hunting! -Daniel

Any big changes to your management plan since you are now in the expanded CWD zone? Would love to see a video on it if there are.
Yes! We will talk about it on the upcoming episode! You can watch it on Monday at growingdeer.com -Daniel

I would go with .350! I think the .300 would be a tad stiff. -Daniel

GrowingDeer.tv I've tried the fall blend and the horses like everything I've tried lol😂
HAHA I gotcha. Yes, fencing the horses out is your best option. -Daniel
I shoot a pse radial x weave 300 ; would the evidence 300 be the same or should I go with 350? Thanks!
What's your draw weight and length? -Daniel
Love your videos what he said is true
Thanks James! -Daniel

Good afternoon
Hi Kenton! -Daniel
Love the videos have you ever joined up with Midwest whitetail and helped each other out
Dawson, Grant and Bill are good friends. They do a great job! -Daniel
Didn't know deer love poison ivy!! Can you elaborate more?
Deer love to forage on the leaves! -Daniel
what do you use to get rid of the weeds coming up through your plot
We use a 2-5% mixture of glyphosate. -Daniel
GrowingDeer.tv when do you spray that before you plant your plot?
Glyphosate is not ground active, so you can spray the day you plant. -Daniel
GrowingDeer.tv ok thanks
Is 50 acres enough to practice quality deer management ??

Heck yeah I've Been Working On 6 Acres next to a farm that's about a hundred and ten and I'm pulling some nice deer in off his place
the stories those stands could tell
Right? No telling how many deer they have helped harvest. Great sign! -Daniel
When d d landio clove and white Dutch clover so its the biggest durring the fall
