    I daily drive a lifted 1997 Jeep Wrangler that I bought new at the end of 1996. I heavily modified it over the years. For a little bit, I retired her to weekend warrior because she was too built for daily driving. However, times got tough and my Wrangler JK got repossessed. I had to drive my zombie apocalypse survival vehicle daily. I got used to it. It is not bad at all, except on the interstates where it is absolutely brutal. But on surface road, byways, rural roads, crowded urban roads, logging trails, and off road, she is just fine. It turned out I did not need another vehicle afterall. I just have to avoid interstates when I can. I still drive the interstates, it is just a very harsh experience.

    The 4.0 is a ridiculous motor. I have a stock 2002 4x4 with the 4.0... ground clearance is my biggest problem. But I bought the truck at 180,000 miles. I’m currently at 230,000. I ride it hard as hell and it just keeps pushing on. I’ve hydro locked the motor once. I’ve loaded the fiberglass bed with 2 tons. Ive squatted it to where the wheels were rubbing. Another issue is the fuel pump, I’ve put in 2 since I’ve got it. In my opinion it has plenty of power, I’ve pulled 5000 Pound trailers loaded with wood. If it had lower mileage I’d consider a lift kit and some mud tires but it just isn’t worth it right now.

    • @WingsWorldChannel
      @WingsWorldChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      They are great motors! But like with most motors, once you start pushing bigger tire sizes, in this case 35s, you lose a good amount of power. When it comes to racing, most of the other guys are running high power motors nowadays, so its hard to be competitive with a 4.0.

    • @BrotherTay
      @BrotherTay 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My 4.0's got 320k on it 31's iv done the same pulled trailer two times the length of the ranger! It flat toed a full size truck over an hour on back roads up around 7 very steep hills just to be safe i put it iñ 4x4 didnt know ic the motor would tske it but still going strong 6 months later

    • @xCptLegendx
      @xCptLegendx 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is not that 4.0.... its the one in my truck. Its the 4.0 OHV, only produces 160 hp and 220 torque... Reliable though. I love my truck, though i have the manual 5 speed.

    Man I used to have a 2010 Ranger, had the 2.3 in it with only 40,000 miles on it. Sure it was only 2wd, and didn’t have a powerful engine, but goddamn I loved that truck. I don’t even know what it was about it.
    I had one of my buddies install subwoofers, and one of our friends showed up to ‘help’. When we looked away he was drilling through the firewall to run the power wire. I was pretty aggravated at first about it, but I didn’t stress it. After installing everything we turned it on and all of the dash lights were going crazy, I lost traction control, cruise control, windshield wipers, airbags, and a few other small things. I thought it was the aftermarket Radiohead or something at first, then I was stationed in Korea so it sat for a year. Came home to my baby, it was acting up a lot more so I did a little more searching. Well turns out when he drilled through the firewall, he also happened to drill straight though the wiring harness and shredded all of the wiring. The kbb value on the truck was like 13k, but due to the wiring harness it would’ve been under a salvaged title. I traded it in at a dealership and bought a Ram 1500, they gave me 4500 for the ranger. Sure the ram has 4wd, and a big engine, and it’s more luxurious, but it just isnt the same as old girl and I really wish I still had her. Moral of the story: don’t let people work on your stuff for you.

      Will Gebhardt Not if you wear your seatbelt in those comp seats

    • @WingsWorldChannel
      @WingsWorldChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Its a little bit safer if you are wearing proper harnesses and seats compared to being in a standard vehicle in my opinion! Just like offroad, if the vehicle rolls on the street the cage is protecting you and the harnesses and seats are keeping you in place inside the cage. BUT, if you had a cage with standard seatbelts you wouldnt be having a good time! haha really depends on the situation but id say 90% of the time youd be better off with a caged vehicle with harnesses. -Christian

    • @ItalianAvalanche
      @ItalianAvalanche 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WingsWorldChannel Why is it dangerous with regular seat belts? Because you can get jostled around and hit your head on the tubes? I love your channel btw I hope one day I can get my ranger in some kind of league with what you guys do.

    • @WingsWorldChannel
      @WingsWorldChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ItalianAvalanche Correct, if you are not held in your seat and get into an accident or roll the truck, you can run the risk of getting seriously hurt from the tubes on the cage, regaurdless if they have padding around them or not you can get very hurt and its not recommended!

    • @WingsWorldChannel
      @WingsWorldChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Steel-it recommends you sand blast the surface of whatever you are going to coat with their stuff so it has a little more bite, but everything we have done here we just scuff up with some 80-100 grit sand paper first and it bites good! Never had any issues with it. The GPS setups you can get through Tylor Davenport over at Kartek Offroad, give him a call and he will get you all setup! Mention WingsWorld and he will get you some money off your next order!

      I can't speak to how this truck was done, but on our truck there is a pontoon bar that runs parallel to the cab underneath the cab that the a pillar and b pillar tubes shoot down to. When it was time to 360 weld the cage, we broke the tack welds on the pontoon bar and dropped the cage down a few inches to get access to the top of the tubes.

    This is like a year late but knowing those 4.0s its still ticking unless he's already swapped engines. But anyway, you will spend more on wiring and all the electrics to make that 5.3 run correctly and a whole lot of modification than just getting a 5.0 from an explorer and putting it in. The 4r70 is actually a beast too, put springs, cam and an exhaust for a sweet little small block that should be around 330hp na, slap a turbo on for more. Cost of which should be 1-1500k. Cheers

    Almost great . no AC. No turn signals . back to engineer 101

    • @WingsWorldChannel
      @WingsWorldChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      No AC is really common in these trucks. Once you start cycling a ton of travel with big tires, the ac unit gets in the way really quick haha. Some A-arm trucks can retain the stock unit, but not many beamed trucks. If you want AC, you would have to get like a vintage air setup, which can get really pricey.

      Starting from a bone stock vehicle and having someone build it with new parts, youd be pushing 50-60k for a vehicle like this one in the video all said and done. Theres 15-18k just in shocks and a rear axle alone in this truck! Prices vary on different things, like doing the labor side of it yourself and what parts you decide you want to run - Christian

    • @grouchygrizzly366
      @grouchygrizzly366 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Regnier he said Dana 44 spindles I believe. Not live axle.

    • @TheChristianEwing
      @TheChristianEwing 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Regnier D44 beam ends and spindles. Stock ranger beam ends aren’t as big as D44 stuff is, so people will use D44 4wd beam ends for their beams to make things stronger! And usually when guys swap rear ends, the lug pattern will change to 5x5.5. So the D44 spindles and hubs are already setup to match the rear
