Hi Lisa, I take my non electronic valet key on a lanyard around my neck (inside my wetsuit). The water is so warm right now. You are going to have a blast.
Hi Greg, There is an easy entry point with two sets of stairs with rails all the way down to the beach. Then from there it's a semi protected beach right into the reserve. You won't have to scale the rocks like we did in this video.
Hi Julian, most of the underwater shots in this video are with a gopro session 5. Talking parts before the dive are shot on a Sony Alpha5100 with 10-20mm Lens Here is my full equipment list. www.romancastro.com/vlogging-cameras-gear-and-equipment/
Great video - looking to snorkel La Jolla in the next couple of weeks. What wet suit are you wearing, and what do you recommend? I'm used to South Florida snorkeling, the water is much warmer over there. :)
Hi Clockwerkz, a 3mm or 5mm suit would work well. I’m wearing an old 5mm open cell suit I use for Freediving. You can rent a suit, mask, snorkel, freedive fins and weight belt at James and Joseph Spearfishing. You can’t spearfish in the reserve but that’s the best gear if you are Freediving. A cheaper option is renting a full wetsuit from one of the kayak rental places near La Jolla Shores. Good luck!
all the things I hate about LJ.. calicos, langos, and garibaldi everywhere.. and all the things I love.. all the sheepies, jack macks (5:17?), rock wrasse and perch.. beautiful footage.. might get some footage of a moray hunt later if I can..
Check out my spearfishing blog SpearoBlog. Here is the gear I use and recommend www.spearoblog.com/spearfishing-gear/ Feel free to come back with any questions!
Hi Jessa!! That's great. The water is nice right now. It's sad how many people never see the underwater world out of fear. Good on you for doing it. How did it go?
Hi Carlos! in the water I used a go pro hero session 5 in the intro I used a Sony a5100 with 10-22mm lens. Items 2, 13 and 14 on my video gear list here... www.romancastro.com/vlogging-cameras-gear-and-equipment/
In the 80s we would pack a pipe load in a sandwich bag with a lighter and it was 420 time..... high school snorkeling summers many dry areas under the caves to rest on at mid low tide..
Hi Jessica, you don't but it helps to stay warm and for abrasion resistance. The temperature there can get down to mid 50's in winter and up to 70 in the summer. My advice is to wear a wetsuit so you can stay in the water longer.
I appreciate the disclaimer you gave right before the dive!
Thanks PJ! Great dance moves!
Hi, I'm going next week, I wonder where do you keep your car key when you go in the water?
Hi Lisa, I take my non electronic valet key on a lanyard around my neck (inside my wetsuit). The water is so warm right now. You are going to have a blast.
Is that goldfish entry point always accessible? Tides? Too steep for a uncordinated 55y/o?

How thick is your freediving suit and what was the water temp?
Hi Finchman1, It was a 5mm back in 2012. Now it feels like a 2-3mm with some holes in it. Temp was around 62.
A new 5mm would be perfect.
Many thanks Roman. Looked like a fun dive.
Great video. I think ill be taking a trip over there and thanks for the info on the poaching.
When are you taking your trip and how long have you been freediving?
Good shit brotha, I love the diving out there in La Jolla!!
Thanks Cam. Hit me up next time if you wanna dive.
What kind of camera & lens cover do you use for your dives?
Hi Julian, most of the underwater shots in this video are with a gopro session 5. Talking parts before the dive are shot on a Sony Alpha5100 with 10-20mm Lens

I saw a shark 🦈 omg !
Right?
EPIC Footage
Thanks Afran! It makes me want to go dive some more. My session died right after we got in so I didn't do as much talking as I would have liked.

Thanks Coach Werf! Do you eat Moray's or catch/release?
I never release a moray.. I only remove them from places where I worry about my kids getting bit. They do make good soup though..
Do you wear a weight belt?
Hey Román,
What gear are you using ?
What camera ? Wet suit ? Snorkel /mask?
Check out my spearfishing blog SpearoBlog. Here is the gear I use and recommend www.spearoblog.com/spearfishing-gear/

Rain x on your lens prevents all those water spots 👍🏻
Thank you +Kalie Isaacs. I will try that. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Kalie Isaacs that's super good to know!
I'm going today!!!
Hi Jessa!!
That's great. The water is nice right now. It's sad how many people never see the underwater world out of fear. Good on you for doing it. How did it go?
I went 2 days ago no leopard sharks but at least I was swimming with Sea Lions the Cove and that was excellent
Hi Edward! That's fun! Yeah that is such a fun area to dive around
@@RomanCastroVlog Gracias
I’m planning on visiting soon!! From what point from la jolla did you go? And does it take a long time to reach the caves?
Sick Roman!!! Thanks Bro!!!!!
Glad you liked this Colby. I still owe you that Spearfishing Yellowtail tips video

Go out there again and use a Red or Magenta filter on the gopro's. The color will pop out more.
Thanks +michael guerrero, I think I have one I can try next time
bad visibility need to catch it when the tide is out n the ocean not rough like glass:)

LoL! Making smoke signals. ;)
Gotta get back in the water! Can't wait to go shoot some fish.
Hi Nick! Let's go! I'm re-banding Valerie (My Double Roller) I want to kayak out to the kelp and see if we can smash some WSB or Yellowtail.
Sweet! Lets do it. I still don't have a gun, only my pole spear, but can't wait to get back in the water. Its been too long.
How difficult is spearfishing? It sounds like a blast!
