Could you put the EMC standard button killswitch in place of the volume knob with drilling or soldering? I would probably move the volume to the tone knob placement and remove the tone knob
I think I should have bought one of the EMG Boost switches, too. I just got a Gotoh Floyd for it so who knows if I’ll change anything else on it. Cheers -Ryan
Yeah Ive been wondering the point of tone knobs for years. I know some low gain non metal/rock players play around with it onstage but for metal? Its 100% useless. For that matter so is a volume knob. We just need on and off. No use for all the signal cut in between.
My guitars have just one volume knob, no tone control. I'm going to try a master volume on each pickup next. I don't see any point of a tone control since I always play with it wide open.
I have the same guitar. If I was to order the bone breakers as well do i need to buy a wiring kit also or does it come with one. Also it doesnt come with a kill switch? less drilling would be better seeing that its my first time doing this. any help would be greatly appreciated.
The Bone Breakers come with the wiring kit. I'd recommend getting their Toggle Switch, though. That way everything is plug and play and you don't have to solder anything. Cheers -Ryan
@@Crypticmaskguitar they have two shaft sizes to choose from les paul and strat ive gotten two answers. What should I get? Thank you for your advise and the vids!
Honestly I'm not sure which ones I bought. I'd recommend the long shaft ones. The body isn't super super thick but it always helps to have longer shafts so you don't have to bore out a section to fit larger pots. I think I had to do that for the toggle switch. But that might have been the Monarkh that I bought at the same time. Cheers -Ryan
@@Crypticmaskguitar so i got the short shaft and everything works great. They're very precise. what to do with my ground? do i hook it up or just let it be?
I just bought some emg pickups for my jackson kelly. When putting them in they didn't fit in the hole in the guitar. Did you have this problem? I'm gonna try to Dremel out the hole a bit to fit.
Pots, yes. Toggle switch, no. You can use the existing and they install with a screwdriver. Or you can pay $30 and get the EMG Toggle switch. I have purchased the EMG Toggle switch a few times and about 3 of them have arrived DOA. The pickup set, as noted in the title and at the beginning of the video and thought out, is the Kirk Hammett Bone Breaker Set. Cheers -Ryan
@@Crypticmaskguitar thanks man. Appreciate the response. You didn't use the original in this video though, hence why you had to widen the hole for a different one. Although, it would've been maybe nice to not have skipped that part of the install lol. Do you have a video of the full install?
I do not. In all honesty I don't think I would ever purchase another EMG Solderless Toggle Switch. Having too many of their accessories show up DOA really doesn't help their case. The only difference between their Toggle Switch and the one included is that it's plug and play. The existing toggle switch is easy to connect as all you have to do is strip a small portion of the wire and push it into a hole and tighten it with a screwdriver. Cheers -Ryan
No not required. Just a pretty sweet mod.active Emgs dont require anything different then passive pickups except the 9v battery adapter u will need to power the preamp of the active emg.
Any toggle will work... The EMG Toggle Switch is convenient, however, I have received 2 defective Toggle Switches from EMG and 3 defective TKO Kill Switches from EMG as well. Cheers -Ryan
You'll need to change the Input jack to a Stereo One... that will be included with the Pickups. You can use the existing Toggle Switch. It's pretty easy to do. Cheers -Ryan
I put Seymour Duncan Blackouts in my Kelly. All the hardware on my Kelley is "Gold"...including the Pickup rings. You should install chrome pickup rings on your Kelly,it would make it look much better IMHO.
I thought about changing everything to Gold at first... but there are a few guitars that I'm buying this summer that have gold hardware so I figured I'd keep it chrome and I'm sort of liking the Chrome and Cream look. I kind of wish that the Pickups were Cream as well. Cheers -Ryan
Bro i absolutely love your content. So much of the gear you demo is gear I own and love. And I'm just a big fan of your style of music you play you have a great Channel man. But I mean no offense by this because you're probably a mechanic or something like that but dude what is up with your fingernails you must work with grease all day I know how that stuff won't come off but I notice that your hands are always black
I work with Calcine Petroleum Coke basically everyday... from work to just before playing guitar (when I'm lucky enough to have the time) I'll have washed my hands 5 times. Once with Fast Orange and Once with GoJo... the rest with girly soaps that my wife buys. It sucks. BUT it is hilarious when people with Manly are "evil" names comment about it by saying "eeeeeewwwww". I usually respond with it being Hard Work under my nails that you wouldn't get from a keyboard. A man do any of your Kelly's not have serial numbers on them I have a 2000 or early 2000s Jackson kext mg and it has no serial number on its neck through construction 3-piece neck with a transparent Maple top bound fretboard but there's no serial numbers on the headstock or the very last fret and I called Jackson and they said they don't put them on stickers but I've looked at pictures of new Jackson's that have stickers where the serial number is as the serial number so I guess the guy at Jackson didn't know he was talking about but do you have any of the same missing serial numbers on any of your Jackson's? Sorry for all the comments
Haha... no no no you didn’t come across that way at all, man! No worries! I randomly get some comments that are just “eeeeeewwwww clean your finger nails” or “I just can’t watch because your finger nails are dirty”. Their names are like “BigDevil” or “RawDawg” or something weird. I find it funny. Glad you like the channel! I just picked up/ordered 5 new amp heads so we’ve got a BUNCH of stuff coming up! Cheers -Ryan
Go Jo and TKO work best, actually. But yeah... sometimes you can’t get Oil and Grease off of your hands good enough. I usually work 70-90 hours a week for 8 months out of the year so I clean my hands quickly sometimes. Cheers -Ryan

My Dinky is getting some BB🤘🏼🔥
you should have done it with seperate volumes, without tone knob.. that will give an extra bite

I believe short shaft. But I haven’t owned this guitar in a while and this was a while ago. Cheers -Ryan

Which model did you install? Emg 81? 85?
EMG Kirk Hammett Bone Breakers. Cheers -Ryan

EMG’s don’t need to be grounded, however, there is a section in the main connector for a ground should you choose to use one. Cheers -Ryan
