Great video as always Shaun. Warts and all. That’s what makes the content great to watch. I’m doing a max air fan and a huge vision star L pro roof light this week. This content will certainly help.
I always bag underneath the skylight cut outs to catch the swarf....if you dont want the cut out to fall in, then if you put a piece of ply under each corner as its cut, when you get to the last corner, there are already 3 corners supported. Not sure if you have found this out, but usually the maxfan lid is held on with stainless self tappers. The countersunk white screws as used in the inside cover that goes against the ceiling....(or at least thats the way I always fit them😉)
Job well done and also well done on the video production, I’m sure it’s not easy but it looks very professional. I’m sure someone must have had to weld the roof back in after they’ve cut it out so at least it’s now fitted!
Trust me when I say you are not the only one that has problems, every job I've done normally ends with me looking skyward and shouting "WHY ME ?" My roof fan was an absolute nightmare ! I think you got off lightly. I would still put a bead of sealer around the base even though you have mastic tape. The van is looking the part now 👍🙂
Great video Shaun. You might want to pop the 4 screws (that don’t want to line up) back out and use the thicker stainless screws as the white head screws are for the internal cover once the ceiling is all finished. However, if you are like most of us, they are probably in the bin now! 😂
if you have not got the plastic end caps for where you cut the roof rack give me a shout and I will 3d print you some as it gives me something to do and only up the road from you. Loving the vidz as prob gunna build a van myself next year.
Another good video, if you need to mark more deep hole's use a marxman pen, brilliant. With the bit you cut off could it be halved and be re-welded front to back joining adjacent bars, this would seal it again and regain the strength? Just an idea?
So glad it has a remote on it as I was thinking that would perhaps get damaged when cornwall have their storms. Can i request the sea even if its just a drive by us town folk don't see the sea enough anytime will do 😊
When I did mine it was a case of necessity ! New second hand van and locked myself out of it , only had one key which was safe in the ignition 😄 The solution was to cut the hole in the roof and drop my daughter down through , fun and games 🤡
Great weather Shaun that was a task but you solved all the problems lol well impressed .👍 Its coming together now! van looks great with them wheels on really meaty with them tyres as well. I was worried about you having bare feet and power tools but felt a lot better when you put the flip flops on 😂😂😂 stay safe buddy see you next week michael
Did you have any problems with water ingress after you had to re drill the 4 holes and miss the metal clips? I am having the same issue...it won't fit!!!
Did mine a couple of weeks back Shaun. IT LEAKED! Even after using mastic tape and a whole tube of (supposedly) super duper sealant. I redid it and still leaks? Where the f"*! does it get in. After a 3rd attempt I think I got it sealed (fingers crossed. 😁
Hi Shaun, love the videos. What van insurance would you recommend for someone building a van like this? I'm sure you mentioned it in one of your videos, but I can not remember which one. Cheers
I’ve always used Adrian Flux and I’ve alway recommended them however when insuring my latest van they messed me around but doubling my insurance premium due to me needing to insure it as a camper van and because it’s used for my business being this TH-cam channel. They decided to cancel my insurance and then tried to charge me a £100 cancellation fee even though it was them that cancelled it. In the end they just moved my insurance over to a different deal where it is now insured as a camper for business purposes. You’d probably be alright with them but I will no longer recommend them due to this.
Wow good job Shaun! Nothing usually goes to plan when fitting anything. There's always a glitch you thought it through but really needed 2 pairs of hands! Looking forward to seeing it working! Keep the vlogs coming! Rdgs Alan 🚐 🚐
popping those’d four screws up really helped me in my fan install, thanks again!
I usually hate Sundays but your van build vlogs are eagerly awaited and consumed every Sunday. Thanks Shaun for letting us share this great build. 😉
Thanks Stewart
Adapt, and overcome. You’re making a cracking job of that van single handedly. That demands respect.
Thank you
Love watching your videos and following the progress. Have a beer on us. Sean and Holley
Thank you so much very much appreciate 😊
Just to let you you know Sean, TH-cam take a huge 30% cut of this so better to use other gifting platforms where possible.
Yea I’ve got buy me a coffee in the description too
In my eyes you’re a genius! An inspiration to all do-it-yourselfers❗️👍
You are a braver man than me taking a jigsaw to the van roof, I know if I tried it would all end in tears. Well done Shaun, looking good.
I thought I was going to end in tears 😂

Job well done there mate. This van is going to be amazing when its all done. 👍
Yea I hope so. As the days are getting warmer I just want to finish it now so I can get out and enjoy it

Yea I’m glad I finally did it. I was putting it off as the fan arrived about a month ago
Appreciate videos like this with warts. More instructive. Cheers for sharing that.
Thanks Tony

@Love Sundays I've got normal skylight..but are looking to swap to a maxx air 👍
I think if the hole is the same size it’s an easy swap
@Love Sundays think the one we have is 400x400 not 100% sure
It should fit then but worth checking first.
Lovely job another good video 👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👋👋👋👋👋
Thank you
Enjoy a cider
Legend thank you
Great job, looks fabulous xx
Thanks Yvonne

Did you have any problems with water ingress after you had to re drill the 4 holes and miss the metal clips? I am having the same issue...it won't fit!!!
Amazing video
Thank you
Another great video. Nothing on your website about the sealant from Screwfix or the sealant strips?????
Sorry was a at a wedding this weekend I’ll update the website tonight.
You done it mate spot on as always keep going tends to be your motto like it . Are those safety flip flops haha
They’re not as safe as the crocks but they’ll do 😂
Did mine a couple of weeks back Shaun. IT LEAKED! Even after using mastic tape and a whole tube of (supposedly) super duper sealant. I redid it and still leaks? Where the f"*! does it get in. After a 3rd attempt I think I got it sealed (fingers crossed. 😁
That’s annoying Sid. I’ve tested mine with water but need a good rainstorm to really test it
@@LoveSundays I think it's sorted now Shaun and it was just a very small spot the last time. Next monsoon should confirm though! 😁

Enjoy your beer, Odyssey__UK.
Appreciate that mate thanks
Did well .... could never do out like that
Cheers
Should help vent the guffs I’ve beenexposed to over the years.
Lol
So is that your biggest fan Shaun? 😂
I thought you were Terry?
Spay some paint inside those tubes you’ve cut, they won’t be protected inside I don’t think.
Good advice
🏴👍
Cheers
Good job Shaun, definitely coming together
Thank you
👍
Thanks
That's probably because everyone else who has fitted one isn't as honest as you Sean!
Maybe
That’s me on every job I attempt.....
It’s never easy is it?
What about an Air conditioner?
Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia are hot.
Have a wave surf on the beach.
Good idea
@Love Sundays , a Storage box on your van backward ( Swing away carrier ) is a good idea.
Storage Box for shoes, tool kit or else.
Noice
Cheers stu
Great video as ever, but please get some knee pads on. 👍🤣🦊
Yea I do need some 😂
See you still have the safety boots 😂😂
Can’t beat a pair of bare feet when cutting metal 😂
I bet that hurt the knees.ouch
Yep everything hurt after being up on the roof
Maybe keep it down if you are stealth camping because it’s a dead give away otherwise
Yep
Shaun please wear decent footwear i can see you losing toes!!!!! Dave York
Thanks Dave
Love your videos but sort your footwear out when doing diy
I’m not sweating into a pair of boots. Barefoot or flip flops are what we do in Cornwall
Wow good job Shaun! Nothing usually goes to plan when fitting anything. There's always a glitch you thought it through but really needed 2 pairs of hands! Looking forward to seeing it working! Keep the vlogs coming! Rdgs Alan 🚐 🚐
Thanks Alan
Bit by bit mate theres no need to rush it but its looking really good on top now 🫡 just out of curiosity were you a builder by trade?
Cheers mate. I’ve never been in any trade I just have a go at it all
@@LoveSundays No Worry's mate. Fair enough then cause your super talented at what you do . 🫡
