Great video as always, and this looks like it will be a great series. You touched on a very important point about the Leica M system, which is meant to be a high quality compact system. I think the 35mm and 50mm 'Crons strike the best balance between image quality and compactness.
Thanks for putting together a great video. I really enjoyed your thoughts on the different versions and found it to be balanced and fair. The insight about the Leica lenses getting “bigger” seems spot on. Thankfully, there are great models that have already been produced so there is still the option to use smaller, yet wonderful lenses.
I'm very happy with the balance you achieve with your videos. I don't see any agenda bias one way or another (Leica v Voigtlander). You make observations about Leica and proceed to Voigtlander for those seeking value for money spent. I just can't get into Typoch because of all those holes in the lens barrel (long term ingress of dust). I prefer Japan made over Chinese but that is free-will choice.
Very nice comparison. I agree with your assessment of the close-focusing APO-Summicron-M 35. It’s optically stunning. I don’t mind its size and weight, but the lens cap scrapes the finish on the lens shade, and falls off the lens too easily.
Seeing a new video from Jimmy makes me happy. Very happy. I have decided to stay with Voigtlander. Love the 35mm F2 Ultron but I have the Ver 1 with the focus stick.
Enjoyed this one a lot. I very much agree re. the 35mm f/2.8 Summaron. I have three of them: one for my M10 Monochrom; one for my M6 and a "glasses" version for my M3. My favorite of the modern 35mms is the f/2.4 Summarit. It does the sharp & contrasty ASPH thing but in a more compact package than the ASPH Summicrons.

Love the detail right to the point explanation of these wonderful lenses. Would like to see adapting the 35mm Summicron lenses to Sony or Nikon bodies. Please
That is an interesting idea! But from my past experience, wide angle m mount lenses tend to have weaker edges on Sony due to sensor stack thickness differences.
Thank you so much for the great video! I’ve noticed that many videos and articles focus on comparing the sharpness and corner performance of these lenses. However, as a vintage lens enthusiast, I’m more interested in characteristics like contrast, bokeh, micro-contrast details, and the unique "Leica glow" in highlights. I came across a similar comparison on a Chinese forum called "Mobile01," but I’m very curious to hear your perspective on this.
thank you jimmy, your video is always on time, I`m thinking of small 35mm lens maybe F2 then your video suddenly appear 😅 I already have my leica 35mm FLE, it`s my favorite 35mm lens but sometimes I want smaller maybe that CV 35mm ultron is choice.
I was also in your shoes and have a 35FLE but wanted a lighter option and I got the 35 ultron recently. I have to say it is so enjoyable to use that I'm thinking to just sell the FLE. The extra stop of light doesn't really outweigh the pros of the size and weight savings, since I shoot digital and F2 is plenty bright for my needs.
Love this video and looking forward for the next episode! I have a question regarding exif info or how you keeping track of len information in the Leica M system. I recently went through an exercise of finding an EDC 35mm lens, but I quickly realized I couldn't keep track of which lens I was using. 6-bit coding helps a little, but only the most modern lens has encoding. I also tried exif-tool but couldn't get it to work. Do you have a system for keeping track? I would love to see how you do it.
@@JimmyChengI have that as well as the v2 summicron 90 from 1960 and a 1957 Elmar 90 LTM. Surprisingly the Summicron is the sharpest and can handle the 45 MPx Nikon Z8 beautifully.
