Chinese Type 096 nuclear ballistic missile submarine has already in construction (near completion). They have invented a new electro magnetic torpedo launch system instead of using air pressure....and it is a single hull submarine design.
If any SSBN fires in a conflict, at minimal, it’s a global changing event, though very likely the end of humankind, the few that will remain afterwards will have wished they weren’t. I believe China will ultimately lead globally by 2030 in submarine technologies and overall capabilities, given their current trajectory.
Let's hope no SSBNs ever use their arsenals, ever. One widely accepted factoid in the PLA watching community is that Chinese SSBNs do not actually go out on patrol armed with real nukes. If true, I kind of hope they keep up this practice with the Type 096 in the future.
@John Smith leaving the nukes out when tensions are low, helps keep tensions low. Under current conditions, China benefits from having peaceful relations with as many countries as possible, for as long as possible. Assuming the factoid is true, I would imagine that when China senses that tensions have increased to the level where there is a credible threat, they will start putting them in. They would have the option of doing so quietly, or making an announcement. Or they may even be able to say they are “considering” that action, as a sort of threat to try to convince another nation to stand down. China likes having a deep playbook of options to escalate or de-escalate various threats as they arise.
one of the ways to further develop rim driven propellers is to have 2 installed on the sides of the body, this means that the hear of the submarine can be freed to install sonars and some torpedo tubes. allowing it to see 360 degrees and fire in all directions.
Interesting idea - would that affect the hydrodynamics of the boat, which in turn might create sound issues? Also, given modern torpedoes are homing or wire-guided, having rear tubes might not be as important as in the past, especially on a SSBN that is supposed to avoid engagements if at all possible. But if hydrodynamic drag is not an issue, then I don't see why not.
@@EurasiaNaval electric rim drive in pods make for many different, non conventional submarine shape options. for instance the majority of the noise produced will be from the propellers' cavitation if convection cooling circulation and rafting sound isolation of mechanical noise makes the body of the sub soundless. a shaft less electric power pod can tow a sub using a long tether. counter rotating double stage propellers, similar to counter rotating propeller installations on airplane engines would eliminate the torque factor. any attacking torpedo that focuses on the cavitation noise would then hit the tow pod which could be 30+ meters in front of the sub body, thus missing the sub body. enhanced survive ability being a key feature of such a design. and decoy drone subs present a whole other set of options. no doubt the future will see some very unconventional subs as the chinese are committed to designing out side the box.
The best place for the propulsion units is inside the submarine, in my opinion. The impellers arranged in series in a large chamber. The rotational speed is low to prevent cavitation noises but the water exiting the nozzles will be much faster because of the narrowing diameter. Active noise cancellation devices can be put in strategic locations. It will be a very quiet submarine, especially if there are active vibration cancelling mounts and noise insulation all around the nuclear generators room. Those high precision rimless motor are super quiet, I think rubber mounts is suffice for the job.
Thanks for the video @ENI. You've made some big calls here, and you may yet be proven right. What should be left in no doubt is that the PLAN is putting huge emphasis (and resources) into its nuclear-powered submarines.
Apart from China's very impressive submarine engineering capability, it is also good to know that the CPC/PLA is not underestimating the importance of having a nuclear deterrent to the US aspiration to achieve nuclear primacy.
LOLZ, Not even the Russians claim to have more nukes than the US - And they're usually not shy when it comes to making "bold" claims. By comparison, the nuclear arsenal of China is tiny. And no, that's not because they are so peaceful.
"Impressive" every western sub can detect Chinese subs miles away. They are quite loud and even if they did create new generation that is quieter, its still not enough. Of course its possible they "borrow" some tech as they usually did from west. But frankly speaking entire Chinese naval expanison is pointless. You dont build such big fleet just to protect your coast, you build it so that you have enough assets when you invade and spread around. Now only reason why Chinese navy will be more superior then US, is because in China when government order something, it is done no matter the cost. In US, politics always get in the way. a question, How do you view the development trend of attack nuclear submarines in the future. In other words, in the future battlefield environment, will attack nuclear submarines focus on fighting with each other's submarine forces underwater, or will it be better to carry cruise missiles or loyal hypersonic missiles at the same time?
I'm no expert, but here is my opinion based on what I have read from much more knowledgeable people. I think the idea of SSNs hunting and engaging other SSNs is heavily influenced by the technological gap in the underwater domain during the Cold War, between the US and USSR. US and NATO SSNs enjoyed a decisive advantage over their Soviet counterparts for the majority of the Cold War, in terms of silencing and sonar technology. It was not until the development of the Improved Akula class that the USSR actually had a SSN that was more or less the equal of any NATO SSNs, and this happened only in the late 1980s. By possessing a large technological edge, the NATO SSNs actually had the capacity to track down and engage Soviet SSNs, while the Soviet side cannot really do the same to the NATO boats. Instead, Soviet SSNs were intended more for anti-shipping duties using their longer-range torpedoes and a larger payload of VLS-based guided missiles. In a hypothetical future conflict between two peers with roughly equal levels of SSN silencing technology, I actually think the SSN vs SSN match-up will not be as much of a factor as during the Cold War. The latest US Navy SSNs have basically reached the level of the ocean background noise, and if we are optimistic, the Chinese SSNs may eventually follow. This means they might be very difficult to pick up with passive sonars. The focus for SSNs may shift more towards anti-shipping capabilities, exploiting the element of surprise to do maximum damage against an opposing surface force while reducing the risk to the SSN itself. This naturally means a shift towards longer-range weapons, to avoid detection by active sonars, and to maximise the chance for any detected boats to escape. You can see this with the increasing tendency to add VLS-based cruise missiles onto the latest SSNs, and China's Type 095 is widely expected to feature a large VLS payload. TLDR: I think SSN roles in the future will be focused on anti-shipping strikes. The idea of SSN vs. SSN match-up is too heavily influenced by the Cold War, where a dominant technological lead on one side made it possible for its SSNs to be used primarily in an anti-SSN role.

Is a rim driver propeller more vulnerable to wear induced noise due to the greater moving area of the ring form requiring more bearings and other mechanical parts?
I don't think these submarines are under construction yet although I do agree that the design phase was long since completed. The reason for this is because China has been producing surface vessels at such a high rate that it's unlikely they will have the budget for the same amount of submarines as well
One thing to keep in mind is the ship building cost in China is much lower than in US, by several factors. They also build it faster by several factors. So it is conceivable they can find money to build everything.
Some taiwanese who live in Penghu island saw a huge submarine surfacing near the coast of the island in 2021 which according to the island official not an US subs but most likely mainland subs. So would the Chinese SSBM. In fact new Chinese naval vessels use integrated electric with DC supply to US's AC supply. The recently launched 003 carrier is adopted with DC elctric drive which is far superior to the AC electric drive of US. Do not hold the belief everything US have are more advance. the global economy is heading into a recession, even economic growth in China has slowed down significantly. the country still needs to recover from more than 2 years of Covid lockdown. funding for the type 96 could be tough. i'm not saying the project might be cancelled, but the construction time frame could very well be delayed.
When it comes to economics, anything is possible and nobody can predict the future. But at this point imho it seems to be the US and EU that is struggling with multiple issues, like ultra high inflation and wealth inequality. But your comment brings balance, which is always appreciated
China spends a relatively small amount on its military as a percentage of GDP. It's the US that has more to worry about. China is still growing and there is no evidence of a recession there. The US is almost certainly in a recession yet it's currently funding a war in Ukraine.
@@EurasiaNaval The consensus among economists, for what economists are worth, is that the recession will be relatively shallow in the West. Still far from ideal to have a recession only a few years after a previous one for sure - and the West including America has many vulnerabilities but at the same time many strengths, such as being the world's reserve currency (this is not going to change as the Fed are the only ones being even the slightest bit responsible with monetary tightening at the moment) and basically being capable of complete autarky from a natural resources standpoint in a de-globalizing world. China, despite decades of unprecedented growth, is in a really tough spot right now with MAJOR real estate issues that seriously threaten one of the most indebted economies in the world. Local governments in China rely on land sales to maintain solvency and to fuel their extreme infrastructure spending. Already across China we are seeing decreases to spending among these local governments because of the decrease in land sale revenues. There are other short and long-term issues including supply chains in a de-globalizing world, food independence, declining exports, insolvent state-owned enterprises, income inequality, COVID lockdowns and a shrinking workforce. This is not to say China cannot or will not navigate these challenges successfully (the Chinese economy certainly has a number of strengths to go along with the weaknesses), just that at this point the assertion that on a real GDP basis China will overtake the US in the near future or even at all isn't as sure a thing as it seemed 5 or 10 years ago. Ironically the world order that the US has presided over and the US military guaranteed since 1945 and especially 1991 was essential to China's growth. Is it still essential in 2022? We shall see, because that system is definitely not what it used to be.
@@sartsdd1 China's gini coefficient is only a few points lower than the US despite being a fifth as wealthy per capita. China obviously doesn't rely on exports as much as they did 15 years ago, but they still make up a significant portion of GDP and are not going to be a driver of growth in the future. China's economy is not going to collapse. Japan didn't collapse in the 1990s but they did enter into a prolonged period of economic stagnation. This is where the danger lies. From the perspective of debt and demographics, China resembles Japan in the late 1980s. And to your point about articles predicting "collapse", I guarantee you can find articles predicting the impending collapse of the Soviet Union 30 years before it happened or the impending collapse of the Japanese economy 30 years before the lost decade. An article written over 20 years ago has nothing to do with the present, just like an article written about the impending Soviet collapse in 1965 would have nothing to do with the state of the USSR in 11989. If we optimistically assume 5% as a growth figure (which definitely can't be assured), which is a possible outcome, and put US growth at the typical 2%, China would not pass the US by 2030. about the impending Soviet collapse in 1965 would have nothing to do with the state of the USSR in 11989. The loss of the dollar as the world reserve currency, will be the straw that broke the camels back, as far as the US military is concerned. I believe the US regime will try to hold the military at today's levels, which will be impossible without the petro dollar, this will lead to services being cut, high inflation and a loss of standard of living for the people. The result of this will lead to public unrest and an attempted regime change, even civil war, as the people are well armed and will not put up with a dramatic loss of living standard.

That's a possible outcome and if it plays out like that, it would have proved that the US political class were just dumbed down all along since the end of the Cold War, incapable of thinking even a single step ahead.
However, I believe that the evidence for US biological warfare research - conceiled as preemptive pandemic measures - point toward an agressive US policy of taking most of the world down with them, it shouldn't surprise if the US will be destroyed by a Sino-Russian preemptive thermo-nuclear strike as US treaties are proven to be worthless, and everything short of a mutiny by the US officer corps won't shift US politics.

@@johnbodman4504 100% with you. Even as a non-American, I really hope things don't come to that, not even to a civil war as I think chaos in America is a threat not just to itself but to the world. @@kindface You are right with what you say and there are Americans who would like to turn the ship around, however if you are not a warmonger you will never reach high office in the government, because the old established warmongers control the media and if the media is against you, winning votes is impossible. I think an armed conflict is the only way that America can rid itself of these criminals. I am afraid that they will start an all or nothing war with China, with the slim chance of retaining their hegemony. Beating China is already out of their reach, they could not even win against Vietnam at the height of their power and with the help of their vassal states.

Is a rim driver propeller more vulnerable to wear induced noise due to the greater moving area of the ring form requiring more bearings and other mechanical parts?
you can design it to floated by magnet with no moving part.
The whole rim itself is the motor, presumably floating and brushless. Not only is there no need for bearings, there's no room for it.
finally, time for PLAN submarine fleet

I don't think these submarines are under construction yet although I do agree that the design phase was long since completed. The reason for this is because China has been producing surface vessels at such a high rate that it's unlikely they will have the budget for the same amount of submarines as well
One thing to keep in mind is the ship building cost in China is much lower than in US, by several factors. They also build it faster by several factors. So it is conceivable they can find money to build everything.
Sure you're not transposing Washington's budget constraints to China?
they dont need paper money ...they had their own tech & every earth reasource that needed

Some taiwanese who live in Penghu island saw a huge submarine surfacing near the coast of the island in 2021 which according to the island official not an US subs but most likely mainland subs. The huge size must be somekind of SSBN while China 094 is not so huge in size and the taiwanese knows very well about this subs humpback so i would guess it must be 096 SSBN that under sea-trial that they saw sailing at water surface near their coast.
Thanks for sharing that. I actually lived in Magong, Penghu for a couple of years
might b worth considering doing a vid on training ,manpower, etc for plan. - likely 2 b a serious bottleneck for plan, notwitstanding their current rapid growth & strategic aims to acheive qualtatativre/quantative parity with usn/jn . it would need some research...
I should tell you upfront that I don't plan to do a dedicated video covering training. I won't rule it out, but there is no plan for it.

We use it for defense only not to bully or threaten other nations in the world.
Our nuclear weapons are used for defense strikes .
small mistake: the shipyard is called Dalian Shipyard, located near dalian city, the sea is called Bohai.
No, sir. Please check again. The nuclear submarine shipyard is called the Bohai Shipyard. Dalian Shipyard is a different shipyard that focus on surface warships only. The two shipyards are different.
Well done China have started contruction the most powerful type 096 BM Submarine in the world. Made in China. 💪💪👍👍👏👏❤❤💯💯

If your predictions are correct here, this wont just be on par with US ballistic subs, it will be better IMO (excluding weapons).
All China does is Copy Russian Subs, so yeah Russian Subs are better
So basically this rimdrive thing is essentially a propeller built into a hollow engine?
No. It sounds like a pumpjet to me.
There is no reason to worry about those military BS unless a war broke out in TW
But the SSBN Columbia Will be Electric and most advantage on pacific ocean.
Look forward to see it
So would the Chinese SSBM. In fact new Chinese naval vessels use integrated electric with DC supply to US's AC supply. The recently launched 003 carrier is adopted with DC elctric drive which is far superior to the AC electric drive of US.
Do not hold the belief everything US have are more advance. The advent of Chinese military development sees China surpassing US in lot of areas, noticeably the hypersonic missile and missle defense shield.
@@oberstleutnant787 Now we have ONLY One submarine with electric drive or turbo electric drive propulsion, is Suffren, the Barracuda class design for French Navy.
@@oberstleutnant787 i heard they're making a submarine that doesn't even need propellers, and idk how but basically what it does is it electrifies the water around it and uses the electromagnetic forces to make it go foward. Idk if this is true but if it is, it would be soooo cool

the global economy is heading into a recession, even economic growth in China has slowed down significantly. the country still needs to recover from more than 2 years of Covid lockdown. funding for the type 96 could be tough. i'm not saying the project might be cancelled, but the construction time frame could very well be delayed.
