The lube points are on the main step rod on either side of the support brackets as shown in the video. Both sides of the rivets that hold the step panels on each side should also be lubricated as well as the step link from the motor and the step pin connection to the link. By far the most critical area to lubricate is each side of the plates or brackets that support the rod that traverses the complete length of the step from side to side.

Bravo Zulu, dude, an overnight application of deep penetration oil, onto the the bar you mentioned, fixed the problem. Thank you for posting.

That will work in the short term however for longevity apply KwikLube since in addition to a high quality lubricant it leaves a grease follower that keeps water from entering the rod bearing area. This lubricant is the same used in the aircraft industry to lubricate the wing flaps. They are often deployed while going through clouds and the moisture causes all sorts of problems. By using the right lube and you should never have any issues with the mechanical operating part of the step.

The motor is a 12V DC motor. It is a Ford Power Window Motor on newer steps and older early 90's are Chevy. Motors don't fail that often, check the power to it in the multi pin plug and especially the green ground lug for corrosion where it attaches to the frame. Tap it with a hammer while opening the door since occasionally the brushes stick on the armature as it wears. Ensure the step mechanism is free to move since the controller stops power when there is high moving resistance. To confirm, remove the cotter pin from the link and pull out the pin. Then check that the step goes in and out without resistance

Great video. I'm now ready to troubleshoot my neighbor's motorhome (being careful NOT to be under the non-working steps)!
