    I think anyone looking for info on this truck will be happy with your breakdown you have offered mate. It was entertaining and I found myself chuckling a few times and also thinking why would you do this to yourself and get one.. Lol... But I totally get it, and if it's a kit that you want it will be a good kit to experience and throw some money at.
    It always looks good on video and has suprised me a number of times on how capable it is.. Blew me away with how heavy it is. Wow!.
    Anyway, good video mate, keep up the great content and look after yourself.
    Cheers mate 👍

      @rccrawlersmid-wales645  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Mick, much appreciated! Yeah, it's certainly heavy... and good question, why would I do that to myself?! Basically because I didn't know how it was! There were a few times I nearly gave up on it, but despite its failings there's something compelling about the thing. And now I've done all this work on it, it means more to me than some of my far better designed, built and able trucks. It's hard to recommend unless you heavily upgrade it from the start, but now I I've got there the hard way I love it. Mostly. Until it breaks again. 😬👍

    you answered every question i had on this truck, ive bought the boom racing chassis plates only and body, sounds like i made the right choice as i can by quality parts for it now!

  • @philpope950
    @philpope950 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The battery plate is raised using the spacers in the kit. The links need adjusting after fitting the high clearance skid. The body is a Killerbody version for reference. Good review though. I think the magnetic mount was for the bigger opening door body only.

    • @rccrawlersmid-wales645
      @rccrawlersmid-wales645  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the info! The trouble with raising the battery plate is then there's even less clearance between it and the interior - I made my own to keep it as low as possible. The magnetic mount fits this non-opening door one perfectly, so I guess it does both. 👍

    I used a combination of blue and black in the front and scale setup on the back works great , they make a planetary reduction gearbox for it that might be worth trying , also noticed a huge amount of slop in the gears, had to take two link spacers out the rear to make the wheelbase correct and adjusted the front panhard setup to get more travel with zero Bump steer , do love mine though. The kit only comes with instructions for the body and I agree not for a first time builder Great review mate been needing more on these 👍

    • @rccrawlersmid-wales645
      @rccrawlersmid-wales645  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Interesting - I've gone for that same blue/black combo, but I've wondered about the scale rear setup. Maybe I'll give that a go. I was tempted by the planetary reduction box, but it seemed odd to bolt something extra to gears that aren't right rather instead of fixing the gears themselves... plus I was a bit concerned the extra length would then clash with the body. As always, it's very hard to find any clear photos of the parts fitted. So you got the unbuilt kit and it had no instructions? 😱 🤣

    • @DanSavine
      @DanSavine 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rccrawlersmid-wales645 the scale rear works good but does take a while to find the right position and look cool I used the silver springs that came with it, iv not yet seen any with the reduction installed but I do wonder if rc4wd gears would fit the stock setup to take up the enormous amount of slop , yer I got the kit with the opening doors and no wheels/shocks the axles and gearbox are ready built just had to chuck it all together with help from pictures on google and a bit of guesswork but went together ok , if you take the long panhard spacer of the front axle and add a small silver shock spacer I found with a bit of playing around seems to work a little better, the link is very close to the spur though all in all I think its a great kit to own

      I probably made this vid too comprehensive, really - I realised I was trying to explain everything I've learnt during the year in what was increasingly real time. This is the version with lots cut out! I've got a long way to go before I'm as comfortable in front of a camera as you are on your excellent vids. The CC-01 is another car I'm curious about, in particular with the Jeep YJ hardbody they did some years back. Great video!
    Are the shocks really 90mm? I thought they were 100mm when i last checked, but they are indeed oversprung.
    I bought a spring kit to tune the shocks only to find that the ones that came with it, were the softest availible as well haha! That's probably why they were so cheap.
    I've fitted the same gearing / gears to mines, shimmed the rear axle, transfer case, gearbox and driveshafts and swapped away from the terrible stock shocks
    I had to get the same axle trusses as well. The front first because the spur was chewing itself off the links on full compression, then the rear because i snapped the stock truss on a rollover.
    Thankfully the new ones are a lot more beefy.
    I used shortened rod ends on 1 side on all the links both front and back to correct my wheelbase as it was a bit off with stock rod ends.
    I'll need to get myself some of those mirrors as well, as i broke one of mines recently and didn't noticed until much later.
    You are right with them being really fun to drive, even if they aren't as capable as some of the more mainstream trucks.
    If was buying new, i'd go the Trailfinder route rather than one of these if they were similary priced, but i picked up mines used in a really good deal. It did not a fair bit of TLC but it's almsost finished.

      @rccrawlersmid-wales645  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Sounds like you’ve had a pretty similar experience to me. Just measured the shocks: they’re 92mm eye to eye. With those hardest option springs on, I think you could use them on a real Land Rover... 🧐

    • @rccrawlersmid-wales645
      @rccrawlersmid-wales645  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@amcf2000c The pitch is just the distance between the teeth - it needs to be the same on both gears for them to fit together properly, obviously. You'll see it expressed either as 'mod,' as 'dp' or 'p'. I think the RC4WD spur gear I swapped to was 32P, so I just got a 32P pinion with the number of teeth I wanted. Hope that helps!

    The issues with the axles and shimming is a big put off. And the wheelbase not being right.
    Would the rc4wd axles fit or some other axles that could fix the shim issue?

    • @rccrawlersmid-wales645
      @rccrawlersmid-wales645  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know about the RC4WD axles personally, but I wouldn't be surprised if they fit - quite a few things on this truck are directly interchangeable. I don't think it's necessary, though.
      The axle shimming is important but it's pretty easy to do - and what I've since realised is that making sure the bearings are good is the most important thing. With those in good condition I haven't had any problems, and it's a heavy truck that gets used pretty hard too. I think it started eating gears once the stock bearings developed too much play.
      As for the low profile bits, I got them from Asiatees - search 'D90 low profile' and you'll get the axle trusses (the headline says D110, but click through and you'll see they fit the D90 too) and search 'D90 high clearance' to
      find the centre skid.

      James K 😬 That's a big ask! You could get around 25mm by mounting the shock on the back of the axle, I reckon, and about 5mm more from using the rear-most hole on the shock hoops (plus another easy 5mm from the same at the front).
