(Yes, 8 yards, this was before the goal post were moved back) Cockroft's kick actually sailed under the crossbar on its way up because he was too close. If the kick had been from 5 yards further back, the kick would have been over the crossbar and therefore would have been good.

All of these plays were from the 21st century. I remember one game in 1971 in which the Packers scored a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage against the Bears in Green Bay. Devin Hester was the greatest kick returner of all time and i wish he still played especially for the bears
Barring a fluke bounce the kicking team recovers in the endzone, which would take 0 seconds, the Randell Williams onside kick return td is probably the fastest you can possible score a td in the NFL. The safety near the end is definitely the fastest you can score but it requires stupidity more than skill.

All of these plays were from the 21st century. I remember one game in 1971 in which the Packers scored a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage against the Bears in Green Bay. (Horrifying for this 11-year-old Bears fans to watch.). The Packers went on to win this game decisively - one of only four games they won that season.

Not sure if this still holds but that player for the Vikings ran back the kickoff in 10 seconds. That was the Min Vs Det. He ran from the middle of his end zone and across the field. All in 10 seconds. They just didn’t stop the time. But if you look at the time he crossed the line he crossed at 10 seconds. Shit even at 11 seconds he was the quickest return going the whole field. Most other players did in 13 seconds.
