I feel like people only take mental health seriously when the person reaches the final stage of illness where they’re talking to themselves and look as though they’ve completely lost their mind...I remember my aunt suffered from depression and no one cared until she started hearing voices and attacking everyone...it’s sad really
You don't feel like that, you know. Because it's very true and very sad. Hope you're all okay . 💖 Sometimes the crazy ppl are the only sane people sometimes. As odd as that sounds. I don't understand that. I never will. Its 2022 and ppl are still struggling to get meds and therapy or any type of help. Its completely ASININE! My partner cut into their arm deep into the fat and their parents never call the hospital or anything. They never.. do.. anything...... So true. I've had people tell me that my OCD is not that bad because I turn up for work every day.....like do you not realize how hard it is for me to just get out of bed every morning 🤬
She understood that she wasn't crazy but she also wasn't well. I love this film. It really highlights trauma in all its forms at a time when mental health wasn't a common term of use and minimal awareness around conditions such as depression or BPD existed.
Ding ding ding 🛎 I’m glad you mentioned this subtlety. Too many women are willing to derail their entire life for a pretty strong man. I think of my friends, still everyday- the amazing people I met while there. I didn't want to leave the ward bc the world is far scarier a place. It’s an illness to be human these days and it's the norm to be covertly wicked.
*It’s an illness to be human these days and it's the norm to be covertly wicked.* Hear, hear! It saddens me how much we've downgraded as a society. The New Millennium was supposed to be better.
I spent some time in a psych ward as well. So helpful. Loved the people I was with. The staff was even very helpful, and you could tell they worked there because they wanted to do good in the world. It changed my perspective of what it means to be "crazy." If you're able to be honest, especially with yourself, even if it means you have atypical symptoms, you're way less crazy than the people in the world running from the truth.
Man..that last line hits home. Honestly though, that's a remarkable quote in itself that I'm saving. It reminds of this other one by J. Krishnamurti: _‘It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.’_ God be with you!
Mental illness is very difficult to understand and treat because the symptoms are not consistent. Sometimes the patient shows no symptoms . Sometimes the patient seems normal even happy. The patient refuses to take medication. Even the doctor gives up. What the mental patient needs is unconditional emotional support from family and friends. He needs a good doctor.
Having borderline personality disorder myself I know it’s hard to diagnose. There is a range of symptoms and to have borderline personality disorder you don’t have to have all the symptoms.
Kiera Lerner please, read this message from the top to the bottom. Even people that have sold their soul to the devil (a lot of people do, especially for fame and success), can get the contract broken by JESUS. Even if you didn't do that, JESUS loves you and HE wants you to become a Born-Again Christian for it is the only way to Heaven JOHN Ch. 3:3. In order to become a Born-Again Christian, you pray to JESUS, apologize for being a sinner, ask HIM to forgive you, and also follow HIS teachings of the New Testament, and also the Ten Commandments. Also, if you have gotten microchiped, then get it, or them removed as soon as possible. The RFID microchip happens to be the mark of the beast, and it is also the size of a grain of rice

“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams..
I know you're probably trying to joke around, but Susanna tried to commit suicide. That's not exactly why she ended up there, she really had Borderline Personality Disorder. Either way, the Aspirin suicide attempt was the thing that tipped her over the edge and landed her in the institute.
@Big Smoke yes bc that's a plan if you have a plan all that's left to do is go through with it and it would be silly to talk to a professional, you say I wanna take this bottle of of aspirin but then they say sorry we cant help you unless you take it. Lol
I can fully relate to this scene. I've spent quite a bit of time in mental hospitals and each time I've had a fear of leaving. There's a certain, strange feeling of safety you feel when you're there. Not saying this feeling comes for everyone in a hospital, of course not, but for me, there was a weird sense of safety you feel. Yeah you do make friends, you learn a lot about people, life, you identify with and feel close to the friends you make. The routine you have becomes normal and leavung and living without it feels strangely terrifying. I remember the last time I was committed, It was my time to go, rejoin the outside world. Deep down, I didn't want to, wanted to stay cause I was so scared to go back out into the world. My dad came to get me and we stopped at a rest stop to get some food and I remember being too scared to get out of the car, when I finally got out and we went inside, I was too scared to look and see what I wanted, everything felt so new, scary, different. I was out of my safety net in the hospital. So we finally got home and I was too scared to go up the stairs to my room and all. Maybe scared is too big of a word but it's the best way I can describe it. Like Brooks Halten in The Shawshank Redemption, when he's terrified of being free, out in the world and ultimately the fear overcomes him. Being institutionalized can break you, it sure can, but it can also make you feel strangely safe. When you're in the hospital and feel like maybe relapsing or whatever, you know you're in a safe place where people can help you. Being in the outside world, you feel alone, scared, like now you have to learn to help yourself all over again. Freedom can sometimes be terrifying.
