Up Agonizing Remorse, down a couple Thought Erasure's. Escape is a reliable mechanic, and even if you don't exile an escape card, you are still not filling their graveyard, which potentially could buy a turn; also imagine yourself mulligan-ing a hand that gets epic if you can draw into a blue source but needs something to do until then. Agonizing Remorse=Better than Thought Erasure when the new META settles. Agonizing Remorse+Teferi Upkeep combo also much better than Thought Erasure!!!! So what if they draw a land on upkeep, just use that moment to exile Uro from their graveyard.
@@joshuadurham1037 At the same time though, that Uro repeatedly gained his opponent life and drew him cards. Exiling Uro would have meant bricking turns for his opponent.
Surveiling makes prophecy better, the dimir legendary better, the sphinx better, narset better, teferi better... Erasure makes the deck function better. Agonizing remorse makes it better against specifically graveyard decks.
So just throwing it out there, I haven't been able to compile an exact list for reviewing because MTG.Pro seems to be broken atm, but I have an idea for what I believe will be a fun and potentially VERY strong deck for this meta that I've yet to see, and it's the "Kaya's Shotgun" (Esper Exile) The central cards are Kaya-3, Gideon-3, And Ashiok-5 (though I also run a few 3's but they don't need to be main decked) and Teferi is also nice but optional, it really depends on what you run into mostly on ladder. The primary goal is to use cards like Despark, Eat to Extinction, Cry of the Carnarium etc. to basically exile all of your opponents threats (the new thought erasure is also amazing particularly since it doesn't need blue mana and exiles rather than discards). Kaya herself just outright destoys the cat oven and can gain you life, Ashiok gives blockers that can exile & mil while also potentially getting threats out of their hand (or bouncing a big one to their hand and then exiliing) plus her Ult is rather nasty even if it somewhat conflicts with Kaya's. Gideon is just an early-game ball buster who incidentally is immune to wrath effects most notably Planar Cleansing which is reeeeeeally important (triple white is rather harsh though to cast) but eventually after running them out of stuff you just fire off either of Kaya or Ashiok's ultimates to finish the game. Esper gained a lot of badly needed control tools this set, not the least of which is the new 4 mana wrath. EDIT: Could possibly try to squeeze in thief of sanity but that might be too greedy.
I've been watching Mengucci's stream of this deck as well, it's super solid. The 2 cards that this deck struggles with in the meta the most in my opinion are Cavalier of Thorns and Nightmare Shepherd. They both have valuable death triggers, and Cav blocks Trawler.
Am i the only one who thought "he's preparing for runeterra" when he said: "hope you guys are excited for more... just card game content, in general" ?
Yes more DImir Master Mogwai =D. Ive been playing your Dimir drown in the loch deck quite some time with good success. But since Theros Release it got substantially harder to play. Milling the enemy to enable vantress gargoyle just give them the Edge for their escape mechanics. But nonetheless I really like the deck and will definitely try out your take on the new Theros meta. Greetings from germany to the best Fake Brazilian Card Boy =)
I add the 2 white saga: The one that give you a wall, a plain and 2 life and the one that bring you back a planewalker. Took out Mortify. Really nice and fun deck!
No, if you have the Trawler in play you are really favored in most matches anyway. Kayas Wrath is there to get you into that position. Having your board wipe on turn 4 instead of turn 5 is crucial in a lot of scenarios, that's why you see a lot of the Azorious-List with Shater the Sky instead of Wipe (despite playing Trawler and sometimes Gadwick)
Hey Mogwai, love your channel, keep the good work bro. I was like you this weekend without knowing what to play and stuff, and I pulled together an Azorius control build with Trawler as win condition and it is also very very solid. I'm gonna try this esper version as well cuz it seems pretty solid too. Thanks and cheers from Brazil.
In game 1 you could have made a cheeky play by naming "Despark" with Prophecy and giving +1 to Teferi, as you could assumed opponent might have a big threat like Cavalier or Nissa than could be desparked. Then opponent would be forced to either skip playing the threat and give you more time and then you could have bounced the Prophecy with Teferi or if they played the threat, then it gets exiled and Teferi survives the attack of 3/3 which could be then killed by oath of Kaya. (sorry if some grammar mistakes, having trouble with all that "ifs" in past)
Something I love about Atris is that no one knows how to use the GUI for its piles, everyone just gives me 3 cards lol. Also, it trades with Nissa lands!
To be fair the first time someone played it against me I needed a moment to process. It was day 1 of release and I hadnt really read this card yet, and the UI kinda just explodes into you face with something new.
The UI isn't great, sure it's good but it could be better. What I am trying to say is that no one knows how to use it because no one knows the card yet.
This deck really wants an elspeth conquers death or two. Killing one of their threats, slowing down their plays, and getting back any of your planeswalkers or creatures is great.
I totally agree. Uro is most definitely "NOT" overrated. That card is phenomenal. There's a reason why it's priced so high right now. As if Simic flash/ramp needed any help. I'm sick to death of Nissa into Krasis. Ugh!!
Narset is great answer for Nissa boring decks. Also I think You should consider replace few Atris and maybe one Medomai especially when u change mind of playing next round card. Which dont do much. Three is also one good enchantment for 3 Black which shutdown drawing decks. :) Maybe one time wipe for one Kaya Wrath which saves Traveler? Btw. Great deck!
Currently working on a dimir bounce & counter + Ashiok deck with white splash, works well against these pesky planeswalkers :) Especially with Whirlwind Denial and Ashiok's Erasure!
What's the benefit of Prophecy over the blue Omen? It's instant speed, you draw 1 instantly with no conditions, instead os maybe draw 2 with conditions in 2 turns.
Nice gameplay bro. Just in case, i think is better to have 4x brazen borrower in that deck of yours instead of idc 1 erebos, 1 mortify, 1 narset and 1 oath of kaya, because how the meta is right now, brazen is just a perfect answer to almost everything including some aggro matchups. Still, good gameplay and deckbuilding. Cheers PD: anyone who see this, pls pm me a theros code =(
I actually made a simic mill deck with Syr Faren, and Towering wave mystic being the main focus. Tons of pump spells and season of growth. Since the mystic Mills on any damage and not just damage to an opponent, it doesn't matter of it dies in combat. They still mill. You can also just win on damage a lot too. It's not amazing, but I got to platinum 2 with it, but I don't know if I can get further. It's an incredibly fun deck though
3 Temple Garden 3 Hallowed Fountain 3 Breeding pool 3 Plains 6 Island 6 Forest 4 Hydras Growth 3 Season of Growth 4 Giant Growth 4 Growth Cycle 3 Karametra's Blessing 3 God's Willing 4 Towering Wave Mystic 3 Merfolk SecretKeeper 3 Wall of Lost Thoughts 3 Setessan Champion 2 Vantress Gargoyle Actually after some theory crafting (and more success on the ladder), I've decided to make it bant. Since the whole point is the Mystic, it's hard not to splash white in for Karametra's Blessing and God's Willing. Once people see it, they always just kill it. Instantly. It's the reaction of "I don't know why you're playing that, but I don't like it" instinct. The Secretkeepers and Wall of Lost Thoughts are there for chip mill and blockers early. Setessan Champion is for extra drawing (mixed with Season of Growth), and acts as a lightning rod away from the Mystic. Vantreas Gargoyle again for early blocking and maybe chip mill, but also as a lightning rod. Hydras Growth is so important to this deck. The best combo with it is putting it on a mystic, and leaving mana open for a pump spell on your upkeep, before the trigger. Since it doubles ALL 1/1 counters, I had a game where my Mystic was a 4/3, and before the trigger I put a growth cycle on it for +5/5, it doubled to 18/17, then 36/34 because I had two Hydras Growths on it. I felt like a god making someone mill 36. All in all it's a really fun deck. I got to Diamond 3 with it so far. The trick is to put a Hydras Growth on a mystic the turn before you pump it into Oblivion. Also to have a God's Willing or Blessing always ready. The reason I took out stuff like Syr Faren is because while she's great, she's a little too slow. Only worth it if you can get her out turn two, but then she would be played over a Mystic or Wall, and I never seemed to want to play her that early. Also that double green can be annoying when you have more green stuff to play. Even if you have 5 mana available, she can ruin it if only 2 or 3 is green. I also took out two Castle Vantreas because if you have that much Mana open, you're probably about to lose, so who cares.
In the video you play Medomai's Prophecy , but in the list from Aetherhub you put Omen of the Sea .

I am playing the same deck. Mengu inspired me as well. Yesterday I had pretty dragged game with UW control and went 2:1 after loosing the first. It was a duel of Teferis and Narsets, but in final game I won in last moment before his Gadwick comeback. I slapped the opponent for 18 dmg with my Kaya ultimate. Lets make Esper great again!
atris is a card that i used against my opponent before i gave him a thought erasure and a land in face up pile and one facedown card which he discovered the hard way it was another land
Ramp has been on top for too long. BTW the next xpac is based around a BLUE and GREEN walker and Huge Creatures. I wonder if they will print more ramp ?

So, about the Thought Erasures. Do you think Agonizing Remorses are better or worse? I'm thinking, they ping you for one but deny graveyard shenanigans. I'm guessing you prefer thought erasures because of aggro existing, the surveil, or both. Thoughts on that?
Hey mogwai, i am a long time Fan and was wondering if you could make grixis escape/self Mill work with ox, the titan and the New phoenix. I tried it as my first theros Deck and had a blast Experimenting with it, But i dont have that many wild cards. Anyways keep up the great work and much love from germany!
Not using counter spells is a good move. To many counter resistant tech and threats this format. Here's the thing. Where is your kiora best and gadwick and elspeth conquers death. Those are the allstars alongside trawler Edit: Okay watching The video I got done things to point out. In terms of furthering the deck. It should most definitely be pure U/W. The scry lands get in the way and you can accomplish allot of the same results by going u/w. The only real card i saw here that had a severe amount of merit is despark. Birth of meletis is a great set up card while holding the board down against aggro. In u/w shatter & time wipe do a lot of what needs to be done. Elspeth conquers death and banishing light do a great job of hitting pesky permanents. GADWICK is an absolute must. The card value. Tempo plays. Not to mention the build up on dream trawler for swing turns. This can not be passed up.
I got to mythic with U/W control and I would agree that its probably better than Esper right now, it does most of what Esper can do with just more consistency. I actually cut Gadwick from my deck though. Gadwick is great but if you play him than you probably want to play Brazen Borrower since it goes so well with his tap down, and if you play those cards than it makes Narset much worse with the increased creature count. Narset is an all star in the meta right now, she shuts down so many engines.
@@MattyIce213 well I'm playing a more midrange style u/w. With spectral sailor, brazen, Gadwick etc. If been digging this variant because it absolutely dumpsters on the u/w mirror. Gives me bodies to barter with. But don't get me wrong. Narset is good, she's been on my radar.
I actually created a Esper control deck so different than yours. Intersting to see how MTG lets you have the same color combination and the same "archetype" (control) and, still, a totally differente deck. My take on esper control: 2x Elspeth, Sun's Nemesis: this has won me soooo many games. Insanely good vs control, provide good blockers vs aggro till you draw your board wipe. 4x Tassa's intervention: honestly, best card of the deck. Having a counterspell OR a really good card draw in a single card is insane. Only downside is that a bit slow vs aggro. I play 2x liliana opposed to ashiok. Ashiok is just... not good. Her (his?) -3 is terrible. And i still think omen of the sea is way better than medomai's prophecy. Anyway, not critizing your build. Just wanted to share my deck!
@@sebastianmora296 This are the changes: -4x Medomai's prophecy, +4 Omen of the Sea; -4x Narset, Parter of Veil, +4 Thassa's Intervention; -3x Atris, Oracle of Half-Truths, +2 Elspeth, Sun's Nemesis +1 Legion's End; -2 Ashiok, Nightmare Muse, +2 Liliana, Dreadhorde General. Still trying to figure out the sideboard, but narset is pretty good there, maybe hushbringer and a couple noxious grasps/desparks.
perhaps shatter the sky would be better than kaya's wrath? I know youre gonna say its a very heavy black deck, but its not 100% that you will always have double BB and WW on turn 4.

Esper control is literally all I see on arena right now.
I got a wilderness reclamation deck with gadwick and trawler as the win condition. So brutal
New deck HYPE!
Love that you went without that intro!
Yes!
love esper control
Ten outta ten, based Fake Brazilian does it again!
In the video you play Medomai's Prophecy
, but in the list from Aetherhub you put Omen of the Sea
.
I know you need it for aggro but seems like a time wipe would have been really good to help you keep the trawler against simic ramp
Dream Trawler is great long as you remember that Cavalier of Thorns has reach
Insane set!
37:09 Lovely singing by Mogwai.
atris is a card that i used against my opponent before i gave him a thought erasure and a land in face up pile and one facedown card which he discovered the hard way it was another land
Ramp has been on top for too long. BTW the next xpac is based around a BLUE and GREEN walker and Huge Creatures. I wonder if they will print more ramp ?
I just played too many times wild mongrel back in the day to bear a cube draft with foil bilands
@MegaMogwai please make a dance of the mance doom list there are so many good enchantments to go through and even echantment creatures , Ive been making some lists but im too much of a jank mind :)

Anyways keep up the great work and much love from germany!
teferi vs nissa, battle of the powergamers
Since your flyer is so important if ya had to board wipe would the time wipe be better since ya can keep flyer?
Not using counter spells is a good move. To many counter resistant tech and threats this format.
Here's the thing. Where is your kiora best and gadwick and elspeth conquers death. Those are the allstars alongside trawler
Edit:
Okay watching The video I got done things to point out.
This can not be passed up.
gadwick isnt a must imo. you have enough card draw without him and also not enough low mana instants in the new u/w control ive seen
Where would I send a deck list to you? I made a spicy mardu deck with ya boy Kroxa.
Maybe it's because I'm late but the decklist link is not for the deck in the video.
Bora montar o Tier 1 Mogwai!
Hey man, give a chance for mono blue devotion, i think it's a rogue deck but is Very Fun
Tafiri as well can't wait for war of the spark to go out of rotation
have the feeling that there are too many answers to the trawler (cavalier of thorns/gales, shifting ceratops, thassas tap effect)
I actually created a Esper control deck so different than yours. Intersting to see how MTG lets you have the same color combination and the same "archetype" (control) and, still, a totally differente deck. My take on esper control:
2x Elspeth, Sun's Nemesis: this has won me soooo many games.
Could you provide the list? I am trying to build an esper deck
@@douglassalgadobanhato7673 You are the best. Thanks.
Do another video showcasing this deck please.
Would blightbeetle in the sideboard help with Nissa?
There's nice Magic here
Idk why he stayed so long in the 3rd game you had him from so far in. Answers for everything.
Despark cant exile Uro. It's a 3 mana creature
Can anyone else explain why the deck he uploaded isn't the same as the deck he played? Am i missing something?
perhaps shatter the sky would be better than kaya's wrath? I know youre gonna say its a very heavy black deck, but its not 100% that you will always have double BB and WW on turn 4.
Dumb question, can someone tell me what he says at the start of the video? Hello there ______? In trance?
Not enough wildcards for atris... any replacement for 2 of them? (Already have one)
Oh... You degenerate. I was thinking about an Azorious deck with Trawler, but this looks fine.
Chromium 2: Esp-lectric Boogaloo
sometimes i didnt understand a single word that left his mouth but hes good
Why not run Unmoored Ego and get rid of the Nissa's that way?
Isnt mortify not better as 3 oath of kaya? J mean enchantment set?
UW not gonna lie seems fun , but by god its games are always super long with how durdly each game is.
he probably hated you geting aishok for conceding twice that was the main reason
I cant wait for the next set where they give simic MORE bullshit
Wait, which card gets him access to his sideboard?
