I can’t even imagine how fresh and how tasty the food at Rota is. Your backyard is essentially your grocery store: veggies from the garden, meat from hunting/fishing, and water and oils from coconuts. Amazing! Once COVID is over, Rota is definitely on my list of places to visit!

I'm from Texas, and I'm Cambodian and we also do similar things with deer, boar, beef, and fish once you dry it you can freeze it and it'll last for months. But like you have mention in your crabbing video with Ariah (sorry if I spelled it wrong)are the moments you cherish with them, that is exactly how I feel when I go fishing with my dad (yellow bass, crappie, stripper bass, catfish) I cherish every moment because tomorrow is not promised
I love how innovative yet similar islanders are! Hawaiians have a similar way of preparing meat. Sliced thin and then marinated in shoyu, sugar, garlic, and ginger then dried then fried! I just got my hunting license for the first time. My older brother is gonna take me out on my first hunt ever in November for western New York whitetails.
Same I took advantage of the classes being online because of COVID and got my hunters Ed and bow hunters Ed! I’m excited to try and get out there this year or next

But when my brother took me target shooting with his 308 and his 270 I blew the bull's-eye out with the 308 from 100 yard's and that was my first time ever shooting a rifle two out of the four shot I took with the 270 I hit around the bull's-eye

A 4 foot wide trout stream that kept the freezer full, too. and rabbit 🐰 and grouse, raccoon, red and grey squirrel everywhere. Hey, try something... I had a Blue Tick Coonhound, got 40 and 50 pound raccoons on a regular basis. Shoot a raccoon (in season, and save the hide to use or sell) and prepare the meat in a barbecue spit. You will be absolutely amazed at the fantastic flavor of the "overlooked" raccoon.

The sandbar deer’s are comfortable in the thick and tangled jungle environment due to there swept back horn configuration, they are also one of the best tasting venison because they don’t have to scavenge, they eat all the tropical fruits and fresh blades of unspoiled grass, we’ve been harvesting these animals for long time here on Guam and you can never get tired of eating it. 👍🏽

I am so glad that you were able to experience that. Growing up on Rota and Guam, even though the islands are so close, the way of life is night and day. On Rota after chores on the farm, Hunting, and Fishing was our way of entertainment and FUN as kids. It was hard to explain that to our friends on Guam who were already used to video games, fast food, and shopping malls. Nothing wrong with either just different. If you are able to make a stop on Guam I am sure you know there is more of the same here as well, just more creature comforts. BIBA MARIANAS!!!

OMG! I have had something similar to that here in Texas, my neighbor once asked my Grandpa to catch him a softshell turtle and the old man prepared it like that and SUN-DRIED IT! he gave my Grandpa some of the meat fried and baked, I had so much of it, absolutely loved it!!!

There's a pretty neat way to sun dry meats. Forgot what the whole process is but the meat lasts for days without refrigeration. Cool to see people still sun drying.

I am so glad that you were able to experience that. Growing up on Rota and Guam, even though the islands are so close, the way of life is night and day. On Rota after chores on the farm, Hunting, and Fishing was our way of entertainment and FUN as kids. It was hard to explain that to our friends on Guam who were already used to video games, fast food, and shopping malls. Nothing wrong with either just different. If you are able to make a stop on Guam I am sure you know there is more of the same here as well, just more creature comforts. BIBA MARIANAS!!!

OMG! I have had something similar to that here in Texas, my neighbor once asked my Grandpa to catch him a softshell turtle and the old man prepared it like that and SUN-DRIED IT! he gave my Grandpa some of the meat fried and baked, I had so much of it, absolutely loved it!!!

There's a pretty neat way to sun dry meats. Forgot what the whole process is but the meat lasts for days without refrigeration. Cool to see people still sun drying.
