I just finished building my fixie under $100. Got a free fixie body frame, painted it matte black, replaced the chains and took out all the brake lines and it's so nice. I can't wait for biking weather.
This is pretty awesome.I get it.I feel the same when I'm out and about. It's just loving the hell of it and enjoying every second you spend pedaling. And having fun with your friends.Vid shows it perfectly. And those autumn colours!Nice :)
Screw the haters. The video is well made and I honestly enjoyed watching you have a lot of fun with your new toy. And I'm pretty sure you got your technique (controlled skids with feet firmly in pedals, smooth straight lines without wobbling) and chain tension sorted out by now and you don't need youtube comments to know whether straps are good, bad or gay*. There are few videos as encouraging as yours - it shows that you can have fun even at the beginning of the learning curve. Thanks for that.
It's kind of a safety thing if you want one. Make sure if you get a fixed gear hub that you get a decent one. When I was learning I used a front brake thankfully cause I blew my hub out and wouldn't have been able to stop without the brake. Now that I invested some money and got a decent hub I'm brakeless and feel safe.
2 days ago I got in an accident on my fixed gear, I smashed my face on glass cause a truck unexpectedly backed up, and I had no time to stop, I have stitches on one side of my face and I can't ride for a while. For those riding fixed gear bikes, stay safe out there. I just can't wait to get back on my bike
Got a fixie 'cause i need neither a road bike nor a mountain bike. Furthermore, it's cheap, light and looks good. They came with brakes and stand, optional for me to remove them. So why not? It's almost like a NORMAL bike that's able to fulfill my need to get from point A to B. Fixed gear bikes usually comes with something called flip-flop hub at the back wheel so we can still transform the fixie into a single speed bike. Wanna know what's the real Hipster bike? Flying Pigeon is.
@Ray1y Yes it is true, my chain is a bit too loose, I need to ajust my wheel... I bought a old raleigh, I cut all things I don't need for a fixed gear like littles ''pins'' for shifter, etc.. A bought wheels on ebay and I found a old shimano 600 crank, perfect for that! So around 700$
fixed gear=fixed gear. as old as the bicycle itself, used in many fields (track racing, artistic cycling, street etc) and will be used for a long time. sure, there are a few shameful years with clowns on neon glowing bikes in its 150 years history. im glad its passed, but i love fixed gears and loved them before the trend. (and i love the freewheels too..)
Last year I had just started riding fixed and I hit a car, ended up falling right on the top of my head and broke my neck. (C5) No permanent damage as soon as I got out of that neck brace, I got back on the bike. Won't lie I was really nervous.
Unlucky. I slammed on my brakes to avoid a similar situation with a car backing up with no reverse lights, ended up face first in glass too. Mind you, that was my first time riding with brakes! No brakes all day.
Yes there are a good bike, but these people don't understand its mainly used for a velodrome and it's illegal to ride without brakes because of how dangerous it is. Best case scenario is they lock the rear wheel and end up under a bus, therefore eliminating them from this world of forward thinking
Is it essential in the fixed community to have track dropouts? For a lot of us, an old road bike frame is much more affordable than purchasing a new track frame, but we still enjoy riding fixed. I don't understand all the hate on here; I ride fixed because it is fun and more of a workout than riding a geared bicycle. It's great for commuting. I don't understand the animosity between fixed and geared riders. I personally would love a geared bike for longer rides, and to keep my fixed for commutes
Hey im not trying to hate on fixie bikes, honestly think if you like what you are doing, then keep on doing it! But what's good about fixies? Low maintenance? Being able to skid without using brakes?
And concerning the technical issues: 1. If you don't use any foot retention, your life would be easier with symmetrical double-sided pedals, preferably rat traps or freeride platforms for good grip. If you don't use what you like - straps, clips, half-clips, clipless or any combination. 2. It's actually a good idea to use the fallen leaves to practice skids. Tire wear, you know... *homophobia = fear that men will treat you the same way you treat women. (no, I'm straight, just tired of the word)
I cant ride these in an urban environment. You need to break fast in case of a car cuts your way.Not to mention you cant take sharp turns at high speeds because the pedals keep spinning and youll hit the ground.
Excellent video! Undoubtedly one of my favorites on TH-cam. I've past this on to several friends. Great tune, beautiful scenery, sick bike! Well done. What is your gear ratio?
You didn't got it. It's not so difficult. I'M NOT USING STRAPS AND IT'S ALL RIGHT. What don't you understand? I can stop, skid, enjoy, ride without straps. I used straps and they didn't help me, on the contrary, they made me fall.
can i add you might want to add straps to your pedals, or some sort of foot retention. Just noticed that you put this video up three years ago. Hopefully by now you got some..
Everyone needs to be able to stop effectively when commuting in a flat city, so riding with your feet locked to the pedals which cannot be stopped while having no handbrake in heavy traffic is retarded, and dangerous. There are gears on a 24 speed that are similar in crank to wheel ratio but not crank to cog ratio which means you have better control and response in pedalling by controlling the torque. But I guess rolling up on a 'custom coloured', 'oldschool', hipster bike seems cool these days
You don't have brakes, so you have to use your legs to stop the rear wheel. But, You need a fixed gear hub to to pedal backward! search a little bite on google for fixed gear bikes or track bikes;)!
I had so much fun taking the brakes off of my bike that I'm thinking about doing the same to my car.

i never heard this bruce quote, i dont think i will ever forget it, thanks for droppin a little science

Very Good!!! The real spirit of the Fixed Bikes!!!
Great video!! The Canon is badass!!!

It's like Road Bike Party, except Road Bike Party is good.
cool video, love the fall colours!

Great video well put together..post more!
Wow nice video man, great editing and great camera
this makes me wanna hop back on a fixie and RIDE FIXED!
Hmm.... very Asuka Kasama. I like it.

The fixed gear bike is Natures way to deal with too much Hipsters
This is a nice area, hope you took some cool shots!
cool video, i love fixed bikes
Nice video. Nice song!
Super edit mec ;) ! à noter l'écureuil qui fait les poubelles à 1:42
All shot on Canon, and a short about fixies? Yes, word.
I was scared of that too before getting cage straps. Just don't tighten the straps as much, and you'll find it easy to slip in and out of them.

The ol' no brakes + no foot retention combo. Makes for one sad excuse for a bike...
vrmt nice mon Oli ! sa sort vrmt mieux que j'aurait cru !!! belle job de transition!
realy cool vid!!!!!
brilliant video mate!
i usually dont comment... but.. this is a nice vid man... good stuff...
very nice video!
and i like it!/like song haha
A short film about coming out of the closet in small town america where he can't even afford clips for his fashion trend fixie.
your right you need clips or foot cages for it to be a real fixie
Johnny Lotto hahah dude you are funny asf

Great job on the video
brakeless and no clips? your life would be a lot easier if you fitted some, safer too.
thought the same here too.
I can see the same great country side on my single speed freewheels bike (lol) Beautiful vid
Super le vélo!

Videography was amazing. the tricks could be better, but I liked the video :)
nice video, love it
love the footage! its clean! love the 2:00 and the end. awesome stuff
Nice video. I like the style and expression. The music works well.
enjoyed watching :)
@WeAreeWe it's not the chain, it's a bunch of different parts. It's mainly the rear hub and the lockring That why it's called a fixed gear.
You can put brakes on fixies especially for the front wheel if you want to. But you don't need to.
J'adore ta vidéo :)
it looks you had a whole mess of fun not worrying about any shit just plain fun
Brakeless fixed gear with no foot retention, fucking brilliant.
Cool fixe and cool guy
Beautyfull fotage! Great bike, enthusiasm and energy synergy :)
nice videos ! it's awesome you have a 7D o.0
I also have a unicycle.. It's the same idea for sure, but it's not really the same thing cause the "rang" .. ( gear ratio) change the feeling!!
love bmx but respect fixie
@mattperry95 false the direct drive of a track bike makes the rider more in controlled it also increases your momentum therefore going faster
Dude, I love this!

Straps so you can sitdown skid on those leaves ;D!!
Awesome video man. Good editing too :)

yeah xd, ill be putting some leather straps, maybe using shoes that dont have much to get stuck on something helps aswell :p
cool!! =)
♥️
cool vid. :]
Unlucky. I slammed on my brakes to avoid a similar situation with a car backing up with no reverse lights, ended up face first in glass too. Mind you, that was my first time riding with brakes!
No brakes all day.
Vídeo de muito bom gosto! ❤

Sympa cette petite vidéo. Ça bouge bien la scène fixie à Laval ?

I hate straps because I often end up trying to flip the pedal right side up since the strap side is down.
Where is this? Freaking awesome scenery!
Where is this being filmed? Very nice scenery

nice bro,,,,

your dads gonna be pissed you took his favorite sweater
every youtube vid i see with fixies always has hate? i have both geared and fixies and love them both.
The coolest thing you can do on a fixie is to go fast.
can i add you might want to add straps to your pedals, or some sort of foot retention. Just noticed that you put this video up three years ago. Hopefully by now you got some..
A large majority of the Tour de France riders train on fixed gear
No foot retention nor brakes. Holy crap, how do you stop quick enough?
Straps are useless. If you are going to have an accident you can't put your feet out easily. I'm not using straps and it's all right.
@thefutureweb oh nice, I noticed thats a road frame, how'd you get a fork with that clearance?
What's the point of a fixed gear bike? I like the way most of them look, it just seems like a hastle to always have to pedal.
That seems to be a lovely place to be, is it canada?
Well he has no hills to go down and the streets are clear haha.
i love this song! ^^

it depends on where you live and the weather also of course the shape your in
