  • Here we discuss a double manual Shudi & Broadwood harpsichord from 1775. It has a Venetian Swell and a machine stop, a nasal register and a lute stop. Frederic the Great owned a few of these and Joseph Haydn owned a Shudi/Broadwood from even the same year.
Riko Fukuda plays repertoire from the period to demonstrate the instrument:
Joseph Haydn, Allegro moderato from Sonata No.16 D major, Hob. XVI/14 (Before 1766)
Joseph Haydn, Capriccio (Fantasia) in C major, Hob. XVII:4 (1789)
Edwin Beunk is an internationally acclaimed restorer and collector of early pianos. In the course of time it transpired that a new world opened up for many when they came to view the collection, amateur players, students, and professionals alike, even for some world famous pianists. Therefore Edwin Beunk decided to create a number of documentary films about the history of the early piano, in collaboration with filmmaker Patrick Drijver and pianist Riko Fukuda.
