  • Today I board a Ship which is a new cruise in the Pattaya area taking you for a weekend island getaway to Koh Samui. We have sailed aboard this ship before but the scenario is different this time and focused on a new tourist destination. Come aboard with me, I'll go over all the details.

Luke, way to go not taking a refund. My guess is the people running this boat have put their heart and soul (and a shitpot of money) into this and were probably heartbroken when it didn't go as planned.

The Catamaran to Hua Hin failed, this ship route to Sonkla failed and somehow i have the feeling the boat is just to big for one trip a week.
2 Boats half the size with a route between Pattaya, Bangkok (i don't know if there is a place where they could stop) Hua Hin, Samui, Sonkla, Koh Maak, Koh Chang, Koh Samet travelling in opposite directions and daily / max 2 days, would maybe work as a cruise.
I don't think any route in the Golf of Thailand from A to B only would work, only if it something else as what we got.
Apart that, you looked at the direct flights to Samui who are notorious expencives, with Nok Air to Nakhorn Sithamarat and then the catamaran, should be about 6k both ways even booking for the same week (talking 3-4 years ago) and the option with the night bus from Bangkok, should be even cheaper.
What many people don't know is that you actually have to go until Chomporn and take the catamaran from there to Samui.
Anyway, that part of the sea, is in Lompayaa catamarans hands for tourists and Seatrans for ferry. Try to change that will be difficult or you will need a longtime (talking years). So 9K+ is sure not for backpackers, who can afford it probably take Bangkok airways and in between you have this choice. If i think thai tourists, they never go holiday alone and if they really want to take the car to the island, i think they will always have enough people in the car to exchange drivers and so not really need that ship either.
An Island hopping tour where you maybe buy a ticked valid for 2-3 weeks, you can leave the boat at any port listed above and get back when you want, is almost the only way i can think of such a boat to not fail. Collecting data and then maybe open a route A to B.
Such a route would be good for travel agencies abroad as well as 5 Islands in 2 weeks or 1 week cruise in the Golf of Thailand.
Last but not least, they could have half of the ship delivering goods especially goods with a short life span like fruits / vegetables that can sure not wait 1 week for the next boat.

Lucas, have you ever done a Cruise out of Laem Chabang with any of the major Cruise Lines like Norwegian, or MS Cruise Lines? I do like the option of going out of Satthahip on this Ferry to Koh Samui when you can bring either your bike or car, and that there are different sleeping options also. I like having a Cruise option though to see other places in S.E Asia without all the Planes, Trains and Automobiles that a journey like that involves. Get on a boat, throw your bags in your cabin, and off you go :)

Just planning my tour around Thailand for Jan/Feb 2023 and been scoping out flights from Pattaya to Koh Samui to Phuket then back to Bangkok. All in price is between THB7,900 and THB 8,700, depending on route. That is a maximum of just over £200 or US$230. I absolutely love cruising but unsure if this would work for me? Thanks for the video though.

Moving to Samui from Pattaya next year and due to us taking our Honda PCX it's a lot cheaper to take this ferry with the stateroom with sleeping and showering options in our own room instead of Royal Thai Mail for 6000 baht for our motorbike and a Bangkok Airways Flight to achieve the same thing. For tourists maybe not so much.

HuaHin to Pattaya and back used to be a previous viable route. You should talk to them. It would be a perfect triangle.

I hope the ferry is a viable venture for all involved because it is not cheap to run this sort of operation. I can see why it costs three times more for food and beverages. I am hoping this route will work for them as i plan to take my big bike in january for a few weeks to samui and i would really love to do this instead of driving around. On the other hand. Working in cruise industry i know a few facts about costs and also knowing Thailand, i have seriously doubts a ferry like this is going to be successful. I don’t think there is a real market for it here.
Also if this company has been operating without income for a while. I can guarantee you maintenance is neglected. If a ship has been into layup, maintenance doesn’t go away. There will be a lot of things to catch up on and low budget to do, which will cause operational problems.

It's really a shame that the previous cruise didn't work out. I would have been interested in doing that some day. Koh Samui not so much. They are missing out on a massive opportunity by not handling food themselves. Scandinavian ferries have massive buffets that you order beforehand as part of your fare if you wish to, so they know how many people to cater for. It would make sense for them to do something similar.

Good afternoon from Phuket, Kamala Beach, ... Will there be any coverage on the port in Bangkok (22 -23 miles away) named Laem Chabang.. Also any other cruise ship deep water ports.... ???

    • @Rides4Kickz
      @Rides4Kickz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Leam Chabang is more of a commercial port, probably the biggest in Thailand. SongKla is another deep water port down south.

They need to advertise in English and Thai because if not for you we would never know about the trip and planning to take a trip on now.

    sunk-cost fallacy
    noun
the phenomenon whereby a person is reluctant to abandon a strategy or course of action because they have invested heavily in it, even when it is clear that abandonment would be more beneficial.

I think that applies to many boats, even small pleasure craft. I had a small one once and it seemed it was always needing something or other. I finally determined it was more beneficial to just rent a boat for a weekend instead of owning.

Train and ferry from Bangkok is the cheapest way to get to Koh Samui

As a business I don't see this being viable so same thing might happen if it doesn't pick up during the high season, let's hope it does pick up as I want to travel to Samui.

I assume then I could rent a car on samui, I am trying to work out the best way to travel with family, I need a car bikes no good for kids..
