Both the DINO’s stuff and valuation have always been expensive. Yet more stores, more customers, more top and bottom line and the higher stock quotes each year since the 2017’s IPO. Even in the USD down only last year but only -5.7% and only in the 2021 beaten by the SPY. The CAGR over +40% with the P/E never below 25.
Maybe the company's story mirrors Walmart however these are middle-sized supermarkets with the EBITDA margin twice as high. The customers here value convenient locations and the local ownership (fed up with the foreign brands) more than the price. There is an even smaller, more numerable, higher margin, privately owned domestic chain Żabka (“froggy”) almost everyone has an experience with. DINO is still unexplored by a pretty large population.
No wonder it was impossible to meet with the owner/CEO. He (the wealthiest Pole) doesn't even have a smartphone or an e-mail address.

Congrats to you both on this fantastic episode. I am looking forward to your deep dive into Dino. Good on you that you collected some during the dip, Clay. I did that, too. Now almost 8% of my portfolio, sitting right at the top.

May i also remind clay that Mr Monish pabrai too invested in Kotak Mahindra bank in those 90's and i believe he made a killing besides Satyam...There are many of these examples ..recently a story ran about a man who sat on a stock MRF here in india. He had invested and went into coma..But he started recovering and he asked his grand child to check for the stock certificate..The grand child brought the certificates and he rang a tv network to find out what would be the value and guess it was 130 crores..

Skin in the game not so important. Many top investments have little skin and some terrible investments have lots of skin. Regarding doing nothing, think of it like time increasing the margin of safety. Especially important when there is uncertainty about the maximum purchase price.

The comment about only 4% of US stocks outperforming treasuries is simply wrong. This is only true if you lump in all the money losing stocks with the 96% remainder, which is hardly fair. A better analysis shows about 35% of stocks outperform the index average over the long term. That is still less than the 50% you might guess, but not nearly as skewed as is implied by the 4% nonsense!

Time frame changes everything. Over 20 years maybe 35% of the stocks of 100 years maybe 4%. Over 300 years maybe 0.001% all company eventually die so.. I don't know if that is relevant at all.

Always apply the filter for wisdom and knowledge you get from active fund manager and try to rely on books that is printed information then spoken knowledge...error rate in printed matter is low than spoken matter. Peter Lynch was not be able to give that knowledge when he was actively managing fund, the real knowledge he gave only after retirement through one upon the wall street and other books.

In a bear market, the media highlights unfavorable events, such as a shrinking economy, geopolitical instability, cultural and legal conflicts, or a mixture of these factors. Recently, I came across a podcast featuring someone who successfully multiplied their initial investment from $120k to nearly $460k during this challenging market phase. Can you give advice on how to achieve such aggressive profits in such short periods?
