Why do you sew the little square on the corners? I am assuming reinforcement, but if so, why does a curtain need reinforcement? I am also shortening the same IKEA sheers. What is your advice on needle size, tension, and stitch length?
Hi there, I wasn't clear from your blog why you said not to have curtains finish just above or below the window sill? I have a lounge window with a radiator below and currently the previous owner's full length curtains are blocking the rad; or I have to leave them open and feel the cold/heat loss from the window; or I have to scrunch the curtains up to fit them kind of behind the radiator. Not sure what you would suggest here. There is already a roller blind but it isn't doing much warmth wise.

Hi Madelyn, there was a lot of excess fabric to cut away to make a hem for the curtains. I think they were about 40 to 50 cms too long. I pinned up the fabric until it hung at the right length on the floor then measured 2 inches up from the fold (on the excess fabric). I cut away the excess fabric leaving 2 inches for the hem. Have you looked at the blog post? I really needed the information, but the music is distracting and almost as loud as the instructions... I know you want to play soothing relaxing music, and by all means do so, but please, for all us who struggle to separate voice and music that is similar to the same octive range, reduce the volume of the music, as subtitles on a mobile device aren't always the fix for us as on a mobile device they take up 1/4 of the screen covering some important stuff.

Just to add - I did find this video really helpful though, and plan to hem my curtains once I work out which off the shelf ones to buy!

I wonder what it would cost roughly to get this done on two 50-inch wide polyester panels.
If you already have a sewing machine, all it will cost you is your time and a spool of thread. 🙂
