I bought a used one about a year ago. The P-90 is hot and crunchy, but when you start to adjust the volume and tone, you can get a few different sounds. Mine was built in Indonesia, and the quality is spot-on for an over sea manufacturer. I've played that thing in pubic with nooo problems. Go check out Willy Nelson's son Lukas Nelson, he's all over youTube and he plays a Gibson single P-90 LP Jr. Charlie Starr from Blackberry Smoke plays one also. But the king of the P-90 Jr. has got to be Leslie West of "Mountain" !
The frequency at which you acquire guitars has dramatically increased. No judgement, just an observation and I enjoy living vicariously through your purchases.
It sounds good! I like that crunch. I’ve been on strats/ single coils for a while and feel like I’m missing out on all this tone. And that resonance unplugged sounds loud.
I saw a couple reviews and the ones I saw loved it.Someone even said he thinks epiphone under priced it.Ive never heard of a guitar company under pricing something but I went and looked and played one and. I totally agree.Solid guitar.
What year model did you buy? I have an ancient made in Japan LP custom that was old when I got it in 1990 that I have really enjoyed playing. Really interested in a Gold Top with P90s.
@@camilo1455 serial number is EE0607869...So, 2007? I'm guessing, not an Epiphone serial number expert. Guess I should ask Troggly! 🤣...just looked it up on the innerwebs.... 2006 from QingDao, China... Really good guitar
I have to say, I have two of these guitars exactly the same except the colors are slightly different. Epiphone, in my opinion, has out done their performance on these Les Paul Juniors and they sound AWESOME with a little adjustment on the pole pieces. I first raised the pickup about 1/8th inch with a shim and then adjusted the pole piece under each string to my taste. I also lowered the string height to the frets at about distance of a round toothpick. The distance of the string to pole piece by 3/16ths inch from end to middle using a 12" neck radius gauge. The guitar sounds awesome and to me out performs the Gibson version because I like the clear shinny finish. The reason I have two is this, I bought one new and at the same time Reverb had on sale with a snapped neck for pennies. So I bought the broken one and repaired it, I also play it more than the new one because it just feels better for some reason. Nice job Landon keep up the good work. By the way both of mine are 2023 models.
I've wanted one of these badly for soooo long!! I even emailed Epiphone to bring them back before I knew they were going to be re introduced in 2020. Have to get rid of some other gear and grab one ASAP!!
I've got the older Epiphone '57 Reissue Les Paul Junior that was similar with a P100 and Grovers but I put in a Gibson P90 and button tuners. I've got the same shirt though! I've kept it stock.
LB, I think it sounds super. P90s are a great classic sound. Now I expect to hear some classic Leslie West licks from you. 😉 Looks good too, especially the new 2020 headstock. Very interested to find out the weight since you mentioned it was fairly light.

Nice vid man, you should check out the Xaviere guitars, especially the Single cuts, they have a full maple cap, push pull pots, and a quick connect pick up system, plus they’re pretty darn affordable, but they got other style guitars too
I've been curious about these, so look forward to the deeper dive. For anyone not getting the socks/shoes references... I have American inlaws, and when they visit - they never take off their shoes. I don't really get it.
@@landonbailey the real question is do Canadian dogs wear shoes outside then? I lived in asia for a couple of decades and nobody wears shoes inside over there either. They also provide house slippers for guests inside the front door which I like better than mopping someone's floor with my socks

I hope to see Epiphone staying on path to being not just the cheaper version of Gibson but in holding its own. It seems to me, what makes it or breaks it for the Epiphone buyer is the headstock design. Yes, there are other consideration but Epiphone I think would increase sells over night by simply being allowed to update the headstock even more.
I have always been curious about the Juniors. I personally find it lacking, but then again I own two guitars. I need as much tone possibilities as I can out of them. I am fine with one volume and one tone knob, but I like at least two pickups. I hear the players that prefer Juniors its because of the lack of polarity from two sets of magnets can create longer sustain and more clarity on the notes. Not exactly sure how that is tested but could make for an interesting video.
I'm interested to see how you two get along. It be an interesting comparison if you end up really liking this to the SG model. The 61' inspired SG Special they did with duel P90's looks killer but I know these Junior's can be as well. I don't know if I could be happy with just the one pickup though. Stay safe

So just to be clear, it was free right? I'll be interested for your review of the Epiphone Les Paul Custom when you get to it. Also a Robocop reference. Nice.
Thanks for the video Landon. Two things... You play guitar better than most people do so stop knocking your playing dude. You play much better than most people do. Sure there are better players in the world but that's always going to be the case. You used to gig which is more than 99%+ of guitar players ever do. There is so much packaging with these guitars because they have ultra-destructible headstocks. You've only got to frown at them and they crack. So Gibbyphone have to spend twice as much on their packaging as Fender does. You know the old saying about a Telecaster right... It's a cutting board with a strong neck and some pickups bolted to it. Roy Buchanan once famously used his to beat of a would-be mugger when he was walking home after a gig in NYC. You can't do that stuff with a Les Paul. That's why you don't see a lot of relic LPs being sold - the first scar is usually fatal.
Epiphones are not as prone to headstock breaks as Gibsons as they have a shallower headstock angle. Gibson actually made the angle on their guitars shallower for a brief period but people complained. Maybe Gibson fans like broken headstocks? But yes, I'd go for a Tele as a defensive weapon any day :-)
I know everyone loves this model and there's no doubt the P-90 rocks, but I just don't get the "only one pickup" thing. There's all that open space that yells for the second pickup. It's not like the cost is less. Better sustain? Well you have the singlecut so there's lot's of wood for sustain anyway. It's like those three wheeled cars, something obvious is missing, and you wonder why would anyone make such a thing.
I don't know. I think Esquires & Juniors LOOK cool . Also when I have played a friend's single pickup guitar (an old Firebird) ,it made me want to tweak the controls more and concentrate on my own playing dynamics. When you look back at the earliest days of amplified guitars , many Gibson archtops for example only had a single P90 in the neck position while some had 3 P90's and you never hear people complaining about those instruments. My own Tele is a '52 reissue but I would gladly swap it for a real '69 Esquire - last year of original production and my birth year 😊👍
I have read that the magnet in the second pickup effects the tone and sustain. That why some musicians will even take a 2 pickup guitar and remove one. Whether it’s a real thing or in their heads? Who knows I’m a terrible guitar player, so the number of pickups aren’t my problem. Lol
@@kolchak357 There is real physics behind the claim and I'm sure it's observable if you own an Oscilloscope . Is the difference audible to the listener ? Hmm 🤔
The original intent was to make it a student model that was affordable. This meant cutting costs. No carved or figured top, no binding, and less routing and hardware required for the single pickup.
