What a great year for Georgia football, beat the Irish, dominated Florida, shutout UT, beat those Tech nerds, beat Auburn when it mattered most, sec champs, rose bowl champs, National title appearance..all under a second year head coach.
@NASA USA It was an overtime victory, with us sacking Tua and a 2nd and 22 from the 37 years line. One bad play by our secondary and Bama ESCAPED with the victory. It was NOT getting pummeled. You have obvious selective memory. Georgia should have won that game, but a couple really really bad calls changed it. When we were already up 2 TDs they called us offsides on a blocked punt, when it was just perfectly timed. Go back and watch it. We would have gone up 21, and would have essentially ended all hope for a Bama win. Yet, they threw a late flag when they saw the block coming. HORSE SHIT
Im a senior at uga and I still cant believe I got to witness most of these plays first hand including the roller coaster of emotions that was the rose bowl and national championship. Great video to recap an amazing season!
Man, that was our year. FULL of amazing moments. Overcoming adversity. Storming back against Oklahoma, pulling off the double OT win. Then for Tua to come in and blow up our game plan just crushed my soul. OT loss for Dawgs and Falcons in the same calendar year, in the same fashion. I piece of me died that year, but I still love watching this video.
This was our best season yet just got done watching a edit for all the seniors and that’s the first time I’ve cried in a while even this video gives me chills and I little bit of tears all the plays brings back memories of family barbecues and Saturday night football cookouts. By then it'll be senior Jake Fromm or junior Justin Fields starting at QB and I'd like our chances to get back to the national championship and break the 40 year drought. That's my bold prediction. In 2020 Georgia opens the season on Monday Night against Virginia, and we play Alabama in Tuscaloosa for the first time since 2007 which will truly be our revenge game, and the last 2 times Georgia went to Tuscaloosa (2002, 2007) we beat Alabama and won the Sugar Bowl each of those years, and on January 1, 2021, one of the semi-final games will be the Sugar Bowl and it will be 40 years exact from January 1, 1981 when Georgia beat Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl for our last national title.
TWO96 I have to disagree with you on our year. 2019 when the 2017 3rd ranked class will be juniors and redshirt sophomores will be OUR year. Those pups on the O line who didn't play much this past year will have had a year under there belt. The pups in the secondary will have had a year under there belt. You stack 2018 class on top of 2017 and 2016 class and have you seen what were doing already in 2019 that's our year and 2020. We may not win 13 games in 2018 but don't look for a huge drop off. There is still big time talent ready to replace the guys who left. Keep in mind UGA didn't start recruiting good when Kirby got here he just took it to another level. In 2018 2016 class which was ranked 6th in the country will be juniors and redshirt sophomores. We have recruited so good over the past 5 years nobody in the East can compare to the talent we have. The trip to Columbia will be tough as usual, unless LSU have gotten at least an average QB that trip isn't as tough as you may think. Auburn lost alot also, no need to even mention Florida or Tennessee, we will be in the Benz for the SEC Championship game. GO DAWGS

Cameron Martinez well we didn't had a all of injuries last year. We still would have been the same from last year but not better. Missouri was a great team in 2013 so there were no chance of going back to Atlanta at that time. Plus we weren't the same. I could just tell the difference. Our defense was not good and we got now Tennessee's head coach as a defensive coordinator in 2014 to improve our defense. It would not be the same like in 2013

Players are already amped up but to look over and see your head coach just as excited as the fans are is something special!!! What a magical season! I'm not a salty Dawgs fan, so props to Bama for making the QB switch at halftime and props to Tua for making a picture perfect throw to win the title. But rest assured, the Dawgs aren't going anywhere! We will continue to challenge until we bring home a Natty!

This truly was an amazing season. We were the best team in the country that year. If it weren't for thst absolutely bullshit off sides call in the national championship, we would've won, as it was a chipshot field goal. This is one for the books.
We have another chance this year with a much better defense compared to 2017. Just need the UGA offense to score more points in the fourth quarter. It's natty or bust in 2021
One of the best plays of the year IMO is at the end of Ok game when Jake Fromm calmy side steps a defender running right at his face and dumps it to Sony for a first down
I totally agree that the defense would have had a regression that year bc we had a defensive backfield full of freshman *JHC, Tray Matthews, Shaw Wiggins, Brandon Langley but we had an offense full of stars that went out that year. We beat LSU, Sc, and lost by 3 to Clemson all were top 10 match ups. Idk how the vandy, Missouri, and auburn game goes if all those injuries don’t happen but you can surely make a bet that Georgia COULD have been in the sec to title game that year

dawgsfan196: Glad I wasn't the only one. This 2017 UGA team was very similar to the 1982 UGA team who lost to Penn State in the national title game. The 1982 UGA team also dominated Florida in their white jerseys just like the 2017 UGA team did. 1982 UGA beat Mississippi State on the road but 2017 UGA beat Mississippi State at home. 1982 UGA beat Auburn on the road for the SEC title but 2017 UGA beat Auburn in the SEC championship game for the SEC title. I wasn't alive in 1982, but here's what I do know, the 2017 UGA team had once in a lifetime trips to South Bend, Illinois and Pasadena, California and we won all of those big games which made this season the best in 35 years. Now let's go back to what Vince Dooley did. In 1980, Georgia went undefeated and beat Notre Dame to win the national title game. In 1982, Georgia went undefeated until they fell to Penn State in the national title game. Vince Dooley was 1-1 in national championship games. Kirby Smart in his 2nd year led Georgia to the national championship with a lot of junior & senior talent but a below average O-line, weak secondary, not the best pass rush, and a heavy running team and still came up short of beating an Alabama team who had bigger guys up front and 5 star depth all around. So now, I believe in 2020 (or January 2021), it's going to work in REVERSE where Kirby Smart takes a much more talented and loaded UGA team back to the national championship game and this time we win it all to break the 40 year drought, making him 1-1 just like Vince Dooley. By 2020 we'll have bigger guys at the O-line and D-line, a better pass rush, and a better secondary. More experience at QB too. Senior Jake Fromm at QB or Junior Justin Fields at QB? That shouldn't be a problem. #3 recruiting class of 2017 and #1 recruiting class of 2018. Really good schedule. We got a legit shot.

Man Georgia had an outstanding year 2017 won the rose bowl and the sec championship. I’m a huge Georgia fan it would of been nice if we one the national championship haven’t one one since 1980. but hey at least we made it and almost won but just short could of won. Hoping to make another appearance 2018 to the national championship but we are doing good now 7-1 but we got to fix some of our mistakes like on defense can’t really stop the run really well on other opponents and our offense can’t really get the ball moving well. Jake fromms passes are over thrown and they are thrown to hard he is not really having a good year. But hey he did great vs Florida this weekend completed all of his throws 240 yards that’s good best game he had all year. let’s see if he can keep up the good work.

As one of the biggest dawg fans that has ever lived I think number two and number one should be switched. It just makes more sense for the winning touchdown to be number one and, the cause of the winning touchdown to be number two.

True. The only difference is so many of 'Bama's true freshmen had such a major impact in the title game in the 4th quarter. QB, RB, LT, 3 Wr's, including Smith that caught the game winning TD in OT. Every pass rusher for 'Bama is returning. The future is bright for UGA no doubt, but they lost a lot of juniors and seniors to the draft and graduation. A historic recruiting class is huge, but replacing most of your team with untested players is never a sure thing. Best of luck for your dawgs next season. Looking forward to us both beating Auburn's ass on the way to the SEC title game.
marktastic86 Bama and the Dawgs will be good and you got good players from your class too. You got the #1 CB, #1 WDE, and texas best receiver. You are going to be ok but both fan bases know that we are going to be rivals. It's Kirby Smart vs Nick Saban. Both of us know we are going to be good for many years to come. But yeah we did lose our seniors and some of our juniors but we were lucky not to lose all of our staff. Alabama lost most of their staff to the NFL but you got some good replacements like that DL coach from Miami and some college teams and did lose impact players like Ridley, Payne, Fitzpatrick, and Bozeman. So I can see both teams young next year but still have the same talent. But you know Kirby is not quitting and so is Saban. I can see that it's going to be interesting. Alabama is a powerhouse and Georgia will probably become one. But I can see as a Bulldog fan that Georgia is not playing fair. And when Saban leaves, I heard you might get Dabo.
A really underrated play that isn’t necessarily a “top play” is when Oklahoma tried to squib the kickoff to end the first half and somebody caught it at the line saving about 10 seconds and giving rod the chance to hit the 55 yarder. That legit might’ve been the most important play of the year

I feel like 2019 will be a season with much more pressure for Kirby and the Dawgs. They were a few play calls from a title in '17, and a few play calls from a Playoff spot in '18. Anything less than Playoff contention might put Kirby's job on the hot seat with how Georgia fans got tired of Richt's "good, but not great" teams.

This truly was an amazing season. We were the best team in the country that year. If it weren't for thst absolutely bullshit off sides call in the national championship, we would've won, as it was a chipshot field goal. This is one for the books.
We have another chance this year with a much better defense compared to 2017. Just need the UGA offense to score more points in the fourth quarter. It's natty or bust in 2021

I totally agree that the defense would have had a regression that year bc we had a defensive backfield full of freshman *JHC, Tray Matthews, Shaw Wiggins, Brandon Langley but we had an offense full of stars that went out that year. We beat LSU, Sc, and lost by 3 to Clemson all were top 10 match ups. Idk how the vandy, Missouri, and auburn game goes if all those injuries don’t happen but you can surely make a bet that Georgia COULD have been in the sec to title game that year

As a die hard UGA fan, I think losing key seniors and juniors to the draft will hurt, but let's remember, our 2017 recruiting class ranked #3 will be sophomores and our top recruiting class at #1 2018 are coming in as freshmen. I believe the next time we're in this position will be the 2020/21 season when our 2017 class ranked at #3 are seniors and our 2018 class ranked at #1 are juniors. By then it'll be senior Jake Fromm or junior Justin Fields starting at QB and I'd like our chances to get back to the national championship and break the 40 year drought. That's my bold prediction.
If you look at Georgia's whole history, we usually regress a little after great seasons like 1982, 2002, 2007, or 2012. So 2018 will probably go like 2003, 2008, or 2014. Probably 10-3 or 11-2. I don't know about 2019, but 2020 Georgia will be LEGIT, even better than the 2017 team with bigger guys UP FRONT and skilled 5 star players. The 2017 team came up short against Alabama, but a lot of those folks were Mark Richt's guys and our O-line and secondary wasn't even championship caliber and Kirby Smart still made these guys go so far which Mark Richt could never do. The 2017 team isn't the best team Kirby will have fielded yet!
In 2020 Georgia opens the season on Monday Night against Virginia, and we play Alabama in Tuscaloosa for the first time since 2007 which will truly be our revenge game, and the last 2 times Georgia went to Tuscaloosa (2002, 2007) we beat Alabama and won the Sugar Bowl each of those years, and on January 1, 2021, one of the semi-final games will be the Sugar Bowl and it will be 40 years exact from January 1, 1981 when Georgia beat Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl for our last national title.

dawgsfan196: Glad I wasn't the only one. This 2017 UGA team was very similar to the 1982 UGA team who lost to Penn State in the national title game. The 1982 UGA team also dominated Florida in their white jerseys just like the 2017 UGA team did. 1982 UGA beat Mississippi State on the road but 2017 UGA beat Mississippi State at home. 1982 UGA beat Auburn on the road for the SEC title but 2017 UGA beat Auburn in the SEC championship game for the SEC title. I wasn't alive in 1982, but here's what I do know, the 2017 UGA team had once in a lifetime trips to South Bend, Illinois and Pasadena, California and we won all of those big games which made this season the best in 35 years.
Now let's go back to what Vince Dooley did. In 1980, Georgia went undefeated and beat Notre Dame to win the national title game. In 1982, Georgia went undefeated until they fell to Penn State in the national title game. Vince Dooley was 1-1 in national championship games. Kirby Smart in his 2nd year led Georgia to the national championship with a lot of junior & senior talent but a below average O-line, weak secondary, not the best pass rush, and a heavy running team and still came up short of beating an Alabama team who had bigger guys up front and 5 star depth all around.
So now, I believe in 2020 (or January 2021), it's going to work in REVERSE where Kirby Smart takes a much more talented and loaded UGA team back to the national championship game and this time we win it all to break the 40 year drought, making him 1-1 just like Vince Dooley. By 2020 we'll have bigger guys at the O-line and D-line, a better pass rush, and a better secondary. More experience at QB too. Senior Jake Fromm at QB or Junior Justin Fields at QB? That shouldn't be a problem. #3 recruiting class of 2017 and #1 recruiting class of 2018. Really good schedule. We got a legit shot.

Man Georgia had an outstanding year 2017 won the rose bowl and the sec championship. I’m a huge Georgia fan it would of been nice if we one the national championship haven’t one one since 1980. but hey at least we made it and almost won but just short could of won. Hoping to make another appearance 2018 to the national championship but we are doing good now 7-1 but we got to fix some of our mistakes like on defense can’t really stop the run really well on other opponents and our offense can’t really get the ball moving well. Jake fromms passes are over thrown and they are thrown to hard he is not really having a good year. But hey he did great vs Florida this weekend completed all of his throws 240 yards that’s good best game he had all year. let’s see if he can keep up the good work.

True. The only difference is so many of 'Bama's true freshmen had such a major impact in the title game in the 4th quarter. QB, RB, LT, 3 Wr's, including Smith that caught the game winning TD in OT. Every pass rusher for 'Bama is returning. The future is bright for UGA no doubt, but they lost a lot of juniors and seniors to the draft and graduation. A historic recruiting class is huge, but replacing most of your team with untested players is never a sure thing. Best of luck for your dawgs next season. Looking forward to us both beating Auburn's ass on the way to the SEC title game.
marktastic86 Bama and the Dawgs will be good and you got good players from your class too. You got the #1 CB, #1 WDE, and texas best receiver. You are going to be ok but both fan bases know that we are going to be rivals. It's Kirby Smart vs Nick Saban. Both of us know we are going to be good for many years to come. But yeah we did lose our seniors and some of our juniors but we were lucky not to lose all of our staff. Alabama lost most of their staff to the NFL but you got some good replacements like that DL coach from Miami and some college teams and did lose impact players like Ridley, Payne, Fitzpatrick, and Bozeman. So I can see both teams young next year but still have the same talent. But you know Kirby is not quitting and so is Saban. I can see that it's going to be interesting. Alabama is a powerhouse and Georgia will probably become one. But I can see as a Bulldog fan that Georgia is not playing fair. And when Saban leaves, I heard you might get Dabo.
A really underrated play that isn’t necessarily a “top play” is when Oklahoma tried to squib the kickoff to end the first half and somebody caught it at the line saving about 10 seconds and giving rod the chance to hit the 55 yarder. That legit might’ve been the most important play of the year

Haha, wow. The maker of this video really hates Florida. From a 'Bama fan, UGA had a great year and put up a hell of a fight in the NC. Can't take anything away from them. Even if they would've won, it would've been hard to be upset since it was Kirby that made it happen. That's what I was telling myself in the first half of the title game, anyway. Great year, Dawgs. I feel like 2019 will be a season with much more pressure for Kirby and the Dawgs. They were a few play calls from a title in '17, and a few play calls from a Playoff spot in '18. Anything less than Playoff contention might put Kirby's job on the hot seat with how Georgia fans got tired of Richt's "good, but not great" teams.
