This door quite honestly has to be the most disturbing thing I've personally seen in any piece of media. And, as horrifying as it is, I think that it's amazingly well written and is a large part of why Renne is one of my favorite characters. Still, I don't really have anything else to add. Even just remembering it makes me almost feel sick.
I forgot how great the writing is here, this is award-winning short story quality, seriously. Renne's monologue, and it being repeated at the end, was perfect. Also, listening to the Japanese, every line is basically a word-for-word translation too, which means I can't even hold XSeed's fantastic localization responsible for the writing.
"I don't belong anywhere. I'm not going anywhere. But the world just keeps on turning around me... Unbeknownst to me, the world just kept on turning... But that's fine. The world is always turning for my sake. That's why...I've got nothing to feel sad about." One day, I had no lectures so I had the time to play some Sky the 3rd. I was having some lunch at the same time and got to Star Door 15, curious to see what it would reveal about Renne... I distinctly remember taking less and less bites as the Door went on, and it eventually got to the point where I just didn't feel like eating anymore. I chalk that up to Star Door 15 being _that_ dark and messed up. I can stomach it nowadays, of course, but I never forget that first time... It's no wonder why so many people consider this Door one of the darkest things in the series, if not all of gaming. It's impressive that the writers chose to delve into this much detail about Renne's past. Sometimes, things in games get censored for the English localisation, and XSEED had the opportunity to do the same and just give us the prototype version... but they decided to show us the _real_ Star Door 15 anyway. It was definitely for the better, I think. The presentation in the prototype version doesn't do much justice to the subject matter.
Doing this door while eating.... yikes. That's not a good situation. I think this being on Steam meant they could get away with it, Steam doesn't really have ratings. I wonder what this game's rating would be if it got a console release. I feel like they'd probably have to cover Renne with a sheet like in Evo, but otherwise I think they could get away with it. Nothing's really explicitly SHOWN, it's just the implications of what's going on that are horrifying.
@@BigKlingy It should be noted the ESRB never rated this game because it is a PC exclusive. If it had been rated it would have gotten an M just from this alone. Posting this because PEGI gave Zero an 18 rating in Europe - I think it has something to do with gambling, which merits even more than a 16 for some reason? The game got a T over here.
@@hungryhippowdon7141 It's like how Disco Elysium was fine in Australia until it got a physical release, then it almost got banned since our ratings board REALLY doesn't like hard drugs giving in-game buffs (or what it calls "drug use related to incentives or rewards"). The developers did manage to argue it into an 18+ rating, since the drug use was thematically appropriate and the effects are treated realistically and aren't glamourized.
This door comes right back to what I talked about in terms of grounded trauma and darkness. Even with some details around it adding some fantastical fleshing out, a lot of it's... very real. Some spoilers from eventual clarification: A family, burdened by debt, leaves their daughter with an acquaintance out of fear they could be targeted by the mafia only to later find out the family acquaintance is dead with their estate burned to the ground and their daughter having been incinerated in the blaze. But in reality she had been kidnapped and was being used in a pedophilia ring run by a cult with the purpose of coercing, entrapping, and making "allies" of influential individuals across the continent. It's grounded. It's fucked up. And it's *felt*. There are truly terrible people and terrible situations like this out there, and it fits the character and setting Falcom constructed at that point in time.
The other tragedy is her parents still think she'd dead, but I also like that even though her kidnapping wasn't directly caused by them, Renne never outright forgives them and even when she has opportunities in later arcs to return to them, she doesn't. Even the Cold Steel arc never had Renne return to her "real family" and had her leave all of that in the past.
In general, Renne's deal after this does a pretty respectable job of portraying someone seeking closure and as part of that closure, moving on with their lives and accepting that they can't return to who they once were and respectfully leaving their family to themselves rather than involve them and burden them with everything. At the end of the day, especially taking into account the passage of time at the most current point in the series' timeline, she is Renne Bright moreso than she ever was Renne Hayworth.

A vague rundown of what happened is one day when they left Renne in the care of someone else during a business trip, they came back to find the house burned down and Renne gone. They assumed she died. In reality, she'd been kidnapped by... these people. Yeah. The fact they have another child, meaning Renne has a biological sibling who's unaware of her, is interesting. That's something to look forward to seeing more on later.
I love this small detail, the name of the side story is "Paradise" .Star Door 15 is located on the bottom of the abyss, on the bottom of the Trails equivalent to Hell.

For how sensitive a topic this was, the writing team hit it out of the park. They get the point across without mentioning very many specifics, they leave a lot up to interpretation, and it's all wrapped up in something almost like poetry. And it's still all completely heart-breaking.

I started this video thinking that maybe people were exaggerating when they commented things like "this door was the darkest thing I've ever seen in a piece of media". Afterwards . . . I'm going ahead and saying the exact same thing. Perhaps one of the most unnerving parts to me is how everyone in that house was acting as if it was all . . . normal. The kids kept insisting they were fine, even though they were growing exhausted and wasting away. They talked about their "work" as if it was a normal job and even giving tips on how to do it better. I don't have words to describe how badly these poor children have been messed-up by the adults around them. I've seen plenty of disturbing stories, but this one has some of the best writing I've seen, due to the way it gradually builds up the horror, keeping that unease shadowy but ever-growing, until it culminates with that image of Renne at the end. And after seeing all of this, well, it's very understandable why Renne later turned out the way she did.
I hate to break it to you but those other children where never real they where just creations of of Renne's own subconscious that disappeared when she couldn't hide from reality anymore. this was the game developer's attempt to portray the mental illness that used to be known as multiple personality disorder from the perspective from someone that has it.

Falcom raised the bar too high with Star door 15, they will probably never have the courage to write something on the same level of Renne´s backstory ever again. Nothing in Trails Series will ever be as Dark and Disturbing as this.
There's some elements in Crossbell that are pretty dark and tied to this, but overall I agree. They're probably never going into this kind of territory again.
Me, before seeing the content warning: "You know, maybe today would be a good day to watch Sky the 3rd. The last two videos were pretty deep and interesting, I wonder what this one'll be like." Yeah, uh, not watching this one. I've been vaguely spoiled on the contents as "this one Star Door is about..." by people I know who play the Trails games and I do not seek further elaboration. And really all you need to know is that Renne was in a place like this and rescued by Joshua and Loewe. The content on the door is more for elaboration on Renne's emotions and mental state during that time, if you're only concerned about the plot all you need to know is "this happened." (Which was heavily implied in SC anyway)
So... we are about to stare into the very depths of the Abyss. A darkness so vast that not even the brightest light cannot shine through. 2:51 So, I am going to not say anything for the entirety of this Door. Reason being, this Door genuinely makes me feel uncomfortable, and my usual style of writing comments would be incredibly inappropriate for what we are about to witness. 41:15 ...Why does this get worse every time I see it? So... that happened... if you wish to learn more about why Paradise existed, what happened to the other kids, the identity of one of Paradise's clients, the drug that Renne would take during her time at Paradise, Renne's parents and younger brother, and why Renne was taken to Paradise, play Crossbell. 41:19 What a fitting name, considering what we just saw. 46:22 Oh boy, this Door. I have a story to tell about this Door. Back in early 2020, around February, I believe, back during the whole COPPA incident, I kept reading in the comments things about Star Door 15, how dark it was, how it would show that Trails is not child-appropriate (or something, I forget), and I, being the strict spoiler hater I am, didn't want to look it up because I hate spoilers with a burning passion, and it would ruin the surprise for whenever I played The 3rd or BigKlingy did his playthrough (whichever came first, which ended up being the former), however, there was a little voice inside my head saying "just how dark is it?" Eventually, during one of my school's Drama Club meetings, I decided to look it up out of sheer curiosity, and I watched it. Needless to say, a small part of my soul died that day. I was shocked by what I read, and yeah, it definitely lived up to the hype. Then, back in July 2021, I was playing this game, and then I got to Star Door 15, but this time, I got to watch with the Evo voice acting, since I was using the voice patch for the entire playthrough, and it made this Door so much worse (in a "good" way). I was on the verge of tears (and I'm currently on the verge of tears again as of the time I'm writing this). If you couldn't figure it out by now, I think this is one of the best Doors in the entire game. The revelation of Renne's backstory is one of the most powerful scenes in this entire series, and as you might be able to guess, it's not over quite yet, but for that, we'll need to go to Crossbell. 47:05 Heh. 47:24 Aw, why couldn't you have said "The Glint of Cold Steel"? 47:39 YES!!! This woman's performance as Renne in this Door (and also the rest of The 3rd and all of SC) is amazing!
This time, I decided not to watch the door. I've seen it enough, and I'm not in the mood to put myself through these emotions again. What I do want to talk about is the writing, and just how amazing it is. One thing I've noticed a lot from many people's reactions on TH-cam, Reddit, and my own is that they follow the same pattern of: starts off in denial because the actual truth is too much to take in, denial slowly starts getting chipped away with every new piece of information, and denial is chattered when the image of Renne on the floor is shown. These patterns that I've noticed somewhat parallel Renne in this door where she is in denial of what's going on by making delusions, the delusions then start to be slowly chipped away, and then the delusions chatter when reality comes back to her. So throughout the door, both the player and the character are going through the same emotions at the same time, which is a level of Immersion I haven't seen before. This is one of the reasons why I think this door is one of the most well written pieces of media I've ever seen.

I’ve already seen this door a few times before and wow. This door… just wow. I had actual nightmares the first time I watched it. I have to say that this door is what really pushed me to love Renne as a character because to me it feels like her story really went into territory that not many games cover as much as they should. And seeing How Renne grows from an experience like that amazes me since so many people wouldn’t be able to handle something like that at all. As for the kids I also thought they were just a coping mechanism that never existed at first. Honestly either Theory works imo and honestly it’s incredibly disturbing either way. I didn’t know that it was confirmed that they were real, but now I’m very curious to know exactly what happened to them, tho I think I have a very good idea And the last thing I have to say is that the voice acting is amazing in that door. I’m not one to go crazy over voice acting but wow the actress who played Renne nailed it. I haven’t seen voice acting that good since echoes and that says a lot
*Me reading this blind:* Oh, Renne was at an orphanage before joining Ouroboros? Just a regular... orphanage... right? 😰 What made it truly sickening was how methodical this organization felt, feeding their "employees" drugs to make them more docile and training them for various fetishes made me a little sick. Falcom added this extra layer of worldbuilding which made it 10x more messed up than if we would've got a simple third-person narration glossing over the nasty details.

The door really made me look at ouroboros and their members more closely. It kinda feels like the grandmaster gathers lost people and when they find themselves they can just leave
Canonically there was no altruistic motive for attacking Paradise, but Renne being rescued did help her in the end. There's a lot of... interesting things to Ouroboros and people are starting to think they might not be the main antagonists of the series.

Once everyone had calmed down, they returned back to listening to flames’ stories, while also being on guard for any surprises like the last one. As it turned there was another one. Vampire that attacked Melmond and was guarding the way to Lich was also there. As soon as the Warriors approached to his flame, he regained his form and tried to attack the party. Rosch, not being happy after the last surprise, just casted Blizzaga. Instead of killing him outright, it encased the vampire in a block of ice, leaving Kelin to finish him and he had the perfect thing for it. When they encountered that vampire in the Flying Fortress, they defeated it so fast they didn’t even have time to use a packet of nitro powder on it. So it was determined that they no longer needed to carry them. Everyone but Kelin had left them behind. Now it was time for it to be used for the last time. Kelin took it out of his bag and threw it on the vampire. Vampire, realizing what it was, started panicking, trying to get out of that block. He failed to do so and could only watch in horror as Kelin used his bracelet to cast Scourge, obliterating him. Kelin couldn’t help but relish at having another chance at revenge for people of Melmond. After this, the old man came over and thanked the party for helping ferry the souls to their eternal rest and then showed them the stairs leading out of that place. While the party felt angry because Astos and vampire were among these souls, they knew why this had to be done so they left the old man in peace and continue on their way. The next floor was also a strange one. They found themselves in the ice cave again, but instead of monsters, they found giant beavers roaming across the place. Confused at this, they wandered around until they have found another old man at the entrance to two rooms. The old man had asked the party for help. Apparently his giant beavers had escaped from their room and he needed help bringing them back. All the party needed to do was to herd two beavers to the room on the right and four to the room on the left. Not wishing to know more, they quickly achieved their task. The old man, grateful for this, revealed the stairs and said that if he needed more help with that, the party would be first ones to know. They, feeling like their sanity would leave them if they wanted to know more about that place, took the offer and left without saying anything, vowing among themselves not to tell a living soul about what just happened. Unfortunately for them, the next floor was another strange place. They appeared in a large room with two beds and a kid counting down. When they approached the kid, the kid explained that he was playing hide-and-seek and if they helped him with finding a boy with red hair, that he would tell them a secret. The Warriors, thinking this to be another some kind of strange test, sighed and then went outside to look for this kid. The place outside that city was town with canals flowing through it and a tall wall surrounding the city. The only civilians that were present were kids playing around. Every kid they approached said something about forgetting important thing or nonsense. While trying to figure out how to get across the canals without bridges, Mari noticed across that canal that one kid went into one door and ended up on another island so she decided to test that. Instead of entering another building, she ended up on another island with others soon behind her. After realizing what they actually needed to do, they sighed again and went to work. It took them about 30 minutes until they found the kid and then another 30 minutes until they returned back to the original kid. The kid, being grateful for the help, pointed out where the stairs were and left the room. Lewyn couldn’t help but facepalm. Lewyn: “You did revive me, right? This isn’t just a hell I am going through?” Kelin: “Trust me, we are in this, whatever this is, together.” Lewyn: “I wish that felt comforting.” Mari: “Trust me, we all share that feeling.” Rosch: “So, shall we press on to see what next insanity waited for us?” Lewyn: “Let’s go.” The sixth floor was another ice cave one and it was finally a normal one. Only the gloom widows and revenants roamed the cave. The monsters seemed to have realized that the Warriors looked at them with glee for some reason and started running away. Very few escaped the massacre that the Warriors were doing. After two floors of insanity, they released their frustrations onto the poor monsters. They would have probably even wiped the floor clean if they hadn’t stumbled upon the stairway. Now it was up to the monsters of the seventh floor to the feel the wrath of the party, something that desertpedes, the ones ruling the floor, had no idea about. Unlike other monsters, they tried to actively engage the party, only to be killed quite quickly. The party would have gone on another rampage in that marsh cave environment hadn’t they stumbled upon two chests. In them there was another Protect Drink as well as an item called Soma Drops. It was an item rumoured to improve magician’s capabilities of casting spells. Mari decided to take it and hold it in her bag until they left the Cove for further decisions. Not long after they found the stairs and climbed down the next floor. The next 2 floors were nothing too special of note. After the variety of caves and their environments they went through, the regular cave on eighth floor was nothing exciting and neither were the black goblins nor gloom widows that populated it. The ninth floor could have been more exciting as the environment reminded them of the tunnels under Mount Duergar and even the monsters were different as pythons and strange lizards roamed the floor. Unfortunately for the party, most of these ran away at the sight of the party so they weren’t even a time distraction. In the end they found the stairs in a random corner and left that place. The 10th floor was where the scenery finally left the caves and returned to the sky. Again they found them in the area similar that to the Flying Fortress, but unlike the previous time, it was clear that this one was different. As far as they could see, there was no monster roaming around this place and the only direction they could take was to follow a corridor. After following it in what felt like they did a full circle, they ended on a small floating island with a dark blue flame preventing them from going further. Knowing what waited for them, Warriors prepared themselves for a tough fight and approached the flame. The flame screamed before turning into a strange purple cloud with yellow streaks and mouth that was almost as big as its body. By now the Warriors knew how to work with each other against these things Rosch and Mari casted Invisra and Protera for defence, Kelin casted Saber on himself to prepare for attack and Lewyn approached this thing, trying to punch it. This monster didn’t like a puny human doing that so he casted a wind spell and pushed Lewyn away, nearly causing him to fall from the island. While Mari was helping him, Rosch casted Haste to Kelin and helped distracting the monster. Lewyn, angry at nearly getting thrown out, responded by using his bracelet to cast Blink while Mari casted Protect on him. Now with all 4 of Warriors attacking it, the cloud tried to push them all away, but it failed to repeat the success. After getting Haste from Rosch, Lewyn tried to pummel the cloud, but his attacks seemed to do little effect. Rosch and Kelin jumped in to help him with Blizzaga and Ice Blade, forcing the cloud to take a more solid state. The final blow came from Mari who obliterated it completely, leaving only a strange helm behind. Kelin picked it up and put in his backpack. After a good hour of rest, they decided to press on.
Potential spoilers for future games, as well as discussing the content of this video below. I expect you've watched the video if you're in this comment section but just in case: SPOILERS AND CONTENT WARNING BELOW I always thought that the other children were fake personalities constructed by Renne? I know there were other kids at paradise, but I've always thought the "roommates" were Renne's artificial personalities she created to take on the jobs in her stead. While she was physically taking on the jobs, mentally she could pretend that she was able to stay back in the room and be the only one not working to retain her sanity. I've always thought that this was confirmed to be true based on what the owner says when Renne takes on her "first job". "What are you going to be today? A sweet doll? A cool boy?". Even her last line of defence in order to keep her will to live was by cutting crosses into herself. Cross was the last of her personalities to "die". I was curious and I looked at the Kiseki Wiki on Renne and it says this: "It appears that she didn't take part in any of the activities of the facility, instead remaining secluded in her room, left only to play with her plushies, all while her roommates, Cross, Etta, Adje, and Quatre, kept her away from the horrors experienced elsewhere in the lodge. It is later revealed that all of her roommates were actually personalities created by Renne herself as a product of a psychological self-defense mechanism. As time went on, her different "roommates" progressively "went missing", and she eventually had to confront reality with only reliance upon a drug given to her by Paradise's owner ." Now I know the Kiseki Wiki isn't super reliable and up to date, but it supports the theory too. I've played all the games through ToCS4, and I don't remember this being disproved. Where is that disproved in the future?
That was my original theory, for all the reasons you said. And honestly, I wish it was true. However, the Crossbell games reveal a bit more about about what happened here, and I can't fully explain it myself since I'm waiting to play those.

Technically spoilers for Kuro but its just a name of a character. Though it is a party member so I guess that's the main spoiler. Considering one of the kids has the same name as someone from Kuro (in the form of Quatre)...if its right then oh dear god (and that might even be the later canon you mentioned). Especially given the age gap between them and Renne its *even worse* if it was them given they were even younger than she was. Much like Klingy has given a head up, I shall give a warning as well as I give my reactions and response to this door. To those looking for a more cheery comment from me, I'll do my "In other news" section in a separate comment as a reply to this one. However, for those who wish not to peer into this door and what darkness it holds, I ask you to do the same with my comment just to be perfectly safe. Here we go... 0:55- Damnit, I hate that I was right with what SC was implying. I figured that could have been what was most likely being implied by SC, but damn I wish I could be so utterly wrong... 1:30- I wonder if how dark this series can becomes became limited by what this door and maybe the devs toned down after going too far. 2:10- That line takes on a whole new meeting and I hate it now. 2:44- Can we really call it a blessing in this case? 3:17- Yep, this is going to be one of the most effed up things I've ever seen in a game. God help us all. 3:55- Please don't tell me this door is only Star Door 15 because of that. If so... Ugh that's such a twisted reason. 4:05- So you know that line in the DBZA special where Bardock goes into how he despises that one alien and goes into detail how he wants to kill them? Yeah that's my current train of thought towards this man who's forced Renne into this, the guy taking her, and anybody else involved in this damnable brothel. 5:20- Please don't. Having evils forced onto them and trying to keep these evils off of their innocent friend at all costs, but are forced to leave her and can only offer tips before those evils finally claim her... 16:02- Monster is not an apt enough description for the type of person keeping you trapped here. 17:50- Probably one of the most haunting descriptions of what's happening to him. 19:19- And the fact this is coming out of a child's mouth is even more disturbing than the already horrific things being said... 19:35- And that voice acting was chilling. 22:10- I just can't imagine how hellish it must be to live with this type of trauma that it can provoke these types of responses so easily and bring back all of this hell... 23:05- I'm highly concerned what this "water of life" could be. Seeing that's likely the case, I do wonder if it too truly sees itself as Renne's parent. 41:20- This is probably the biggest slap in the face from this game. 41:45- As horrifying as that door was, I can't deny its writing was incredibly well done and properly addresses how horrifying this topic is. 42:00- Thankfully I can keep my tears in, but what I can't stop is the utter despair and anger I feel towards the hell Renne faced. I'm very much a person who can't fathom harm being done to children. So seeing this door... Words can't do justice to how I feel besides no person, let alone a child, should ever go through and damn any monster who does this to others. 45:05- How bizarre. You'd think something like that would be recorded if that were the case. 47:00- Apology accepted, but I'm more sorry for you having to go through that door completely blind. At least we had the safeguard of you giving us a heads up on what it details. ... Well, I don't think I'll be sleeping tonight... In other news, a fair bit has happened since last times. Before going into work hell (which has calmed down for today and the next one or two), I got all of the gem rewards from the N/R Festival in Master Duel. I still haven't fully gotten all of the rewards, but only the rewards up to 10K points matters as they're all gems while everything above are the crappy "legendary" packs that only give two cards with 99% of them being not great (you can't even dismantle them either for crafting points). Still probably going to be playing the festival before going back into meta hell and deal with all the bs hand traps, Drytron, and whatever annoying decks pop up from time to time. Also my copy of Kirby and the Forgotten Land came in Monday night. Haven't gotten too far in (just cleared the first world), but I'm already enjoying my time with the game and will be enjoying it. Speaking of which, I think I'll go and do that now to help cleanse myself of this door.

@@jaredfayette2567 Good job with the N/R Festival. It seems you got to grips with your Megaltih deck in the end. Modern Yu-Gi-Oh meta does revolve a lot around negates which is quite a nuisance. Great to hear that you got Kirby and I can't wait to get my hands on it myself later. After Star Door 15, I went off to play Awakening and I beat Chapter 25 so now the path to the endgame has opened but we do have a lot of paralogues to get through first and these involve the bonus characters. I also made a fun Bow Knight Severa build since I really like what she looks like as a Bow Knight and since it utilises bows I decided that she will be the only character to have Galeforce. To further cheer you up, there are some thinking points I have come up with that I would like to share. So I decided that if I want to get into Trails I would start with Cold Steel 3 just because it is on console as well as the only home console I have access too but Cold Steel 1 can become an option once my brother's exam are over and I have access to the PS4. Something I randomly dreamt about is if we were able to do a collab, what game would it be? This is kind of similar to the question where I asked what game would you like to see me LP if I was able to record anything. Anyways, good luck with your work again and I hope I was helpful here.

There's just so many awful things that happens to these kids it makes me sick. And know you know why we call Ouroboros the lesser evil in this situation since her being a child assassin is FAR better than this hellish existence she was in before. Also like you said, if they didn't target this place, things would have ended much, much worse for Renne in ways I'd rather never think of. Agreed. I do find kind of bad since I kind of picked a deck many would use and others would resent for how common it was, but I'm still glad to use it overall, especially since I've always liked Rituals monsters and it's nice being in an era of the game where they can be good. There are some annoying things with modern Yugioh and the negates, whether it be getting Ashed, Herald of Ultimate negate spam (Master Duel please ban the problem cards that create that hellish board state like the TCG did). Well done on making it this far in Awakening. Good luck with the bonus maps since I remember them giving me a good bit of trouble (also be careful with some of the recruitments since they can be quite tricky/easy to overlook certain steps). Nice to see you were able to make Bow Knight Severa work well. In regard to which one to start, I would probably ask some of the people here more familiar with the Trails series. My gut tells me CS1, but I would recommend getting a better second opinion than mine. For that hypothetical question, it would very much depend on the type of game and the type of collab. By that, it would heavily depend on the game, such as is it a multiplayer or single player? For the latter bit would the type be a standard multi-player game or something like TRG does where they play a game where X member hasn't played Y game and decided to cover that game (kind of like their Super Metroid or Pikmin LPs). Despide my personal... problems with Renne, She will always remain in my top 10 favorite Trails characters. This is masterful. It instilled a terror withain me that only few moments/games have managed to. And of course, The use of "Stairway to Ghenna"... I'm sorry. 20:23 the voice line isn’t finish yet, the reason i can remember is because of that ‘Hajimete(first time)’ literally the long pause was like trying to play around with listener’s thought and idea of the meaning of that 'first time' before saying the full sentence before everyone realizing it’s not gonna end up as a good thing either way. One thing I realised from the dialogue was that Gakuen means Paradise but for some reason I thought Gakuen meant school before. I guess that shows I am pretty bad at listening to Japanese. Personally, I have seen something more disturbing and that thing also had a bad ending on top but this door was still disturbing too since I was able to imagine everything that happened which did make me tense up. It was good to see this door as well as that other thing be handled with lots of maturity due to the disturbing content. This door does make you feel a lot for Renne no matter if you have or haven't played SC and it would be great to see her be with Estelle and Joshua in the future.

The only heavily censored version of this door that I can find on youtube is the Chinese port of the PSVita version of Evo. However, the Chinese PC port of Evo has most of it from what I can tell. It's uploaded by a youtube channel named Miller米樂. I'm just going to copy and paste the video title so it can easily be found. That's what I figured, the censorship is mostly a myth that was blown out of proportion. Edit: the censorship is real, I finally have footage of it. But it looks like it was done at the last minute, since Evo still fully voice acted this door and re-drew all the art.

Yeah, this sort of writing is the reason why Renne is one of my favourite characters in the Trails series. I have to ask though, have you played Trails from Zero yet? It continues her story from the land where she was born. In fact, how up to date about Renne are you? Because despite the fact that she's a support character during the Cold Steel saga, she becomes more prominent during Trails into Reverie. There is a plot point present where Renne fulfills a role which she is exactly the person needed to help. Not Estelle with her eternal optimism nor Lloyd or Rean with the idealism they inspire, the situation called for Renne and only Renne. With all her experience and expertise, Renne was there to pay forward the compassion Estelle showed her eight games ago.
I finished Zero last year. Renne's story there is fantastic. I know she's got more focus in Reverie and Kuro 1, so I'm looking forward to that. (I know vague spoilers on both but not much about Renne's role in Reverie)

I don't think this game was rated by the ESRB, in English it was only released on Steam which doesn't seem to have ratings from what I can tell. Japan noticed though, and the censorship I mentioned here IS real in later versions of The 3rd over there.
However its the ONLY way to warp directly to the abyss itself the other floors if you want to kill ALL but the Pom the Tempest boss more then once requires to re do the entire dungeon STARTING with its 1st floor.
Exactly but fighting the other Abyss bosses isn't really worth it you'll probably end up around lv 145 by time you fight the last 4 bosses back to back and I believe this games max lv is either lv 149 or lv 150 but you'll never hit that lv once you hit lv 145 in the final dungeon exp starts to be worthless.

Back when I saw your playthrough of sky sc, I saw people mentioning in the comments about how messed up star door 15 was. Then I saw star door 15 for myself, and I realized just how horrifying and sad it was. The music really makes the scene even more twisted.
I think Hikari's story in Q2 is nowhere even CLOSE to this level. Her story is sad in isolation, but it's really just basic bullying. This is far, FAR worse.

Poor Renne. I can see why she’s a screwed up person. But try to imagine what her character would have been like if she was male instead. One of my other main characters are very cynic about it and is the reason why he’s a woman hater.

He (a former skirt chaser) gets harassed by women himself, who were working with another woman to frame him for rape. He eventually got out of jail and was on the run in order to prove his name. He hated women ever since.

I just felt I had to do this because a fairly realistic depiction of a child brothel is not something most people expect to see in a JPRG like this. I didn't consider that a spoiler because Sky SC already heavily implied Renne's past. But I understand. When I cover Star Door 14 I'm going to be very careful about future game spoilers and make sure to warm people before I discuss them.

This door quite honestly has to be the most disturbing thing I've personally seen in any piece of media. And, as horrifying as it is, I think that it's amazingly well written and is a large part of why Renne is one of my favorite characters. Still, I don't really have anything else to add. Even just remembering it makes me almost feel sick.
I forgot how great the writing is here, this is award-winning short story quality, seriously. Renne's monologue, and it being repeated at the end, was perfect. Also, listening to the Japanese, every line is basically a word-for-word translation too, which means I can't even hold XSeed's fantastic localization responsible for the writing.

One day, I had no lectures so I had the time to play some Sky the 3rd. I was having some lunch at the same time and got to Star Door 15, curious to see what it would reveal about Renne... I distinctly remember taking less and less bites as the Door went on, and it eventually got to the point where I just didn't feel like eating anymore. I chalk that up to Star Door 15 being _that_ dark and messed up. I can stomach it nowadays, of course, but I never forget that first time...
It's no wonder why so many people consider this Door one of the darkest things in the series, if not all of gaming. It's impressive that the writers chose to delve into this much detail about Renne's past. Sometimes, things in games get censored for the English localisation, and XSEED had the opportunity to do the same and just give us the prototype version... but they decided to show us the _real_ Star Door 15 anyway. It was definitely for the better, I think. The presentation in the prototype version doesn't do much justice to the subject matter.

I think this being on Steam meant they could get away with it, Steam doesn't really have ratings. I wonder what this game's rating would be if it got a console release. I feel like they'd probably have to cover Renne with a sheet like in Evo, but otherwise I think they could get away with it. Nothing's really explicitly SHOWN, it's just the implications of what's going on that are horrifying.
@@BigKlingy It should be noted the ESRB never rated this game because it is a PC exclusive. If it had been rated it would have gotten an M just from this alone. Posting this because PEGI gave Zero an 18 rating in Europe - I think it has something to do with gambling, which merits even more than a 16 for some reason? The game got a T over here.
@@hungryhippowdon7141 It's like how Disco Elysium was fine in Australia until it got a physical release, then it almost got banned since our ratings board REALLY doesn't like hard drugs giving in-game buffs (or what it calls "drug use related to incentives or rewards"). The developers did manage to argue it into an 18+ rating, since the drug use was thematically appropriate and the effects are treated realistically and aren't glamourized.
This door comes right back to what I talked about in terms of grounded trauma and darkness. Even with some details around it adding some fantastical fleshing out, a lot of it's... very real. Some spoilers from eventual clarification:
A family, burdened by debt, leaves their daughter with an acquaintance out of fear they could be targeted by the mafia only to later find out the family acquaintance is dead with their estate burned to the ground and their daughter having been incinerated in the blaze. But in reality she had been kidnapped and was being used in a pedophilia ring run by a cult with the purpose of coercing, entrapping, and making "allies" of influential individuals across the continent.
It's grounded. It's fucked up. And it's *felt*. There are truly terrible people and terrible situations like this out there, and it fits the character and setting Falcom constructed at that point in time.
The other tragedy is her parents still think she'd dead, but I also like that even though her kidnapping wasn't directly caused by them, Renne never outright forgives them and even when she has opportunities in later arcs to return to them, she doesn't.
Even the Cold Steel arc never had Renne return to her "real family" and had her leave all of that in the past.
In general, Renne's deal after this does a pretty respectable job of portraying someone seeking closure
and as part of that closure, moving on with their lives and accepting that they can't return to who they once were and respectfully leaving their family to themselves rather than involve them and burden them with everything.
At the end of the day, especially taking into account the passage of time at the most current point in the series' timeline, she is Renne Bright moreso than she ever was Renne Hayworth.

A vague rundown of what happened is one day when they left Renne in the care of someone else during a business trip, they came back to find the house burned down and Renne gone. They assumed she died. In reality, she'd been kidnapped by... these people. Yeah.
The fact they have another child, meaning Renne has a biological sibling who's unaware of her, is interesting. That's something to look forward to seeing more on later.

For how sensitive a topic this was, the writing team hit it out of the park. They get the point across without mentioning very many specifics, they leave a lot up to interpretation, and it's all wrapped up in something almost like poetry. And it's still all completely heart-breaking.

I started this video thinking that maybe people were exaggerating when they commented things like "this door was the darkest thing I've ever seen in a piece of media". Afterwards . . . I'm going ahead and saying the exact same thing.
Perhaps one of the most unnerving parts to me is how everyone in that house was acting as if it was all . . . normal. The kids kept insisting they were fine, even though they were growing exhausted and wasting away. They talked about their "work" as if it was a normal job and even giving tips on how to do it better. I don't have words to describe how badly these poor children have been messed-up by the adults around them.
I've seen plenty of disturbing stories, but this one has some of the best writing I've seen, due to the way it gradually builds up the horror, keeping that unease shadowy but ever-growing, until it culminates with that image of Renne at the end. And after seeing all of this, well, it's very understandable why Renne later turned out the way she did.
I hate to break it to you but those other children where never real they where just creations of of Renne's own subconscious that disappeared when she couldn't hide from reality anymore. this was the game developer's attempt to portray the mental illness that used to be known as multiple personality disorder from the perspective from someone that has it.

Falcom raised the bar too high with Star door 15, they will probably never have the courage to write something on the same level of Renne´s backstory ever again. Nothing in Trails Series will ever be as Dark and Disturbing as this.
There's some elements in Crossbell that are pretty dark and tied to this, but overall I agree. They're probably never going into this kind of territory again.
Don't forget how Hartmann would frequent this establishment. I wonder if he was one of the guests we hear in this part with Renne.

And really all you need to know is that Renne was in a place like this and rescued by Joshua and Loewe. The content on the door is more for elaboration on Renne's emotions and mental state during that time, if you're only concerned about the plot all you need to know is "this happened." (Which was heavily implied in SC anyway)

46:22 Oh boy, this Door. I have a story to tell about this Door. Back in early 2020, around February, I believe, back during the whole COPPA incident, I kept reading in the comments things about Star Door 15, how dark it was, how it would show that Trails is not child-appropriate (or something, I forget), and I, being the strict spoiler hater I am, didn't want to look it up because I hate spoilers with a burning passion, and it would ruin the surprise for whenever I played The 3rd or BigKlingy did his playthrough (whichever came first, which ended up being the former), however, there was a little voice inside my head saying "just how dark is it?" Eventually, during one of my school's Drama Club meetings, I decided to look it up out of sheer curiosity, and I watched it. Needless to say, a small part of my soul died that day. I was shocked by what I read, and yeah, it definitely lived up to the hype. Then, back in July 2021, I was playing this game, and then I got to Star Door 15, but this time, I got to watch with the Evo voice acting, since I was using the voice patch for the entire playthrough, and it made this Door so much worse (in a "good" way). I was on the verge of tears (and I'm currently on the verge of tears again as of the time I'm writing this). If you couldn't figure it out by now, I think this is one of the best Doors in the entire game. The revelation of Renne's backstory is one of the most powerful scenes in this entire series, and as you might be able to guess, it's not over quite yet, but for that, we'll need to go to Crossbell.

This time, I decided not to watch the door. I've seen it enough, and I'm not in the mood to put myself through these emotions again. What I do want to talk about is the writing, and just how amazing it is.
One thing I've noticed a lot from many people's reactions on TH-cam, Reddit, and my own is that they follow the same pattern of: starts off in denial because the actual truth is too much to take in, denial slowly starts getting chipped away with every new piece of information, and denial is chattered when the image of Renne on the floor is shown. These patterns that I've noticed somewhat parallel Renne in this door where she is in denial of what's going on by making delusions, the delusions then start to be slowly chipped away, and then the delusions chatter when reality comes back to her. So throughout the door, both the player and the character are going through the same emotions at the same time, which is a level of Immersion I haven't seen before. This is one of the reasons why I think this door is one of the most well written pieces of media I've ever seen.

I’ve already seen this door a few times before and wow. This door… just wow. I had actual nightmares the first time I watched it. I have to say that this door is what really pushed me to love Renne as a character because to me it feels like her story really went into territory that not many games cover as much as they should. And seeing How Renne grows from an experience like that amazes me since so many people wouldn’t be able to handle something like that at all.
As for the kids I also thought they were just a coping mechanism that never existed at first. Honestly either
Theory works imo and honestly it’s incredibly disturbing either way. I didn’t know that it was confirmed that they were real, but now I’m very curious to know exactly what happened to them, tho I think I have a very good idea
And the last thing I have to say is that the voice acting is amazing in that door. I’m not one to go crazy over voice acting but wow the actress who played Renne nailed it. I haven’t seen voice acting that good since echoes and that says a lot

What made it truly sickening was how methodical this organization felt, feeding their "employees" drugs to make them more docile and training them for various fetishes made me a little sick. Falcom added this extra layer of worldbuilding which made it 10x more messed up than if we would've got a simple third-person narration glossing over the nasty details.

The door really made me look at ouroboros and their members more closely. It kinda feels like the grandmaster gathers lost people and when they find themselves they can just leave
Canonically there was no altruistic motive for attacking Paradise, but Renne being rescued did help her in the end. There's a lot of... interesting things to Ouroboros and people are starting to think they might not be the main antagonists of the series.

They have their own agenda, it's neither completely good or bad, it has elements of both.
Once everyone had calmed down, they returned back to listening to flames’ stories, while also being on guard for any surprises like the last one. As it turned there was another one. Vampire that attacked Melmond and was guarding the way to Lich was also there. As soon as the Warriors approached to his flame, he regained his form and tried to attack the party. Rosch, not being happy after the last surprise, just casted Blizzaga. Instead of killing him outright, it encased the vampire in a block of ice, leaving Kelin to finish him and he had the perfect thing for it. When they encountered that vampire in the Flying Fortress, they defeated it so fast they didn’t even have time to use a packet of nitro powder on it. So it was determined that they no longer needed to carry them. Everyone but Kelin had left them behind. Now it was time for it to be used for the last time. Kelin took it out of his bag and threw it on the vampire. Vampire, realizing what it was, started panicking, trying to get out of that block. He failed to do so and could only watch in horror as Kelin used his bracelet to cast Scourge, obliterating him. Kelin couldn’t help but relish at having another chance at revenge for people of Melmond. After this, the old man came over and thanked the party for helping ferry the souls to their eternal rest and then showed them the stairs leading out of that place. While the party felt angry because Astos and vampire were among these souls, they knew why this had to be done so they left the old man in peace and continue on their way.
The next floor was also a strange one. They found themselves in the ice cave again, but instead of monsters, they found giant beavers roaming across the place. Confused at this, they wandered around until they have found another old man at the entrance to two rooms. The old man had asked the party for help. Apparently his giant beavers had escaped from their room and he needed help bringing them back. All the party needed to do was to herd two beavers to the room on the right and four to the room on the left. Not wishing to know more, they quickly achieved their task. The old man, grateful for this, revealed the stairs and said that if he needed more help with that, the party would be first ones to know. They, feeling like their sanity would leave them if they wanted to know more about that place, took the offer and left without saying anything, vowing among themselves not to tell a living soul about what just happened.
Unfortunately for them, the next floor was another strange place. They appeared in a large room with two beds and a kid counting down. When they approached the kid, the kid explained that he was playing hide-and-seek and if they helped him with finding a boy with red hair, that he would tell them a secret. The Warriors, thinking this to be another some kind of strange test, sighed and then went outside to look for this kid. The place outside that city was town with canals flowing through it and a tall wall surrounding the city. The only civilians that were present were kids playing around. Every kid they approached said something about forgetting important thing or nonsense. While trying to figure out how to get across the canals without bridges, Mari noticed across that canal that one kid went into one door and ended up on another island so she decided to test that. Instead of entering another building, she ended up on another island with others soon behind her. After realizing what they actually needed to do, they sighed again and went to work. It took them about 30 minutes until they found the kid and then another 30 minutes until they returned back to the original kid. The kid, being grateful for the help, pointed out where the stairs were and left the room. Lewyn couldn’t help but facepalm.
Lewyn: “You did revive me, right? This isn’t just a hell I am going through?”
Kelin: “Trust me, we are in this, whatever this is, together.”
Lewyn: “I wish that felt comforting.”
Mari: “Trust me, we all share that feeling.”
Rosch: “So, shall we press on to see what next insanity waited for us?”
Lewyn: “Let’s go.”
The sixth floor was another ice cave one and it was finally a normal one. Only the gloom widows and revenants roamed the cave. The monsters seemed to have realized that the Warriors looked at them with glee for some reason and started running away. Very few escaped the massacre that the Warriors were doing. After two floors of insanity, they released their frustrations onto the poor monsters. They would have probably even wiped the floor clean if they hadn’t stumbled upon the stairway. Now it was up to the monsters of the seventh floor to the feel the wrath of the party, something that desertpedes, the ones ruling the floor, had no idea about. Unlike other monsters, they tried to actively engage the party, only to be killed quite quickly. The party would have gone on another rampage in that marsh cave environment hadn’t they stumbled upon two chests. In them there was another Protect Drink as well as an item called Soma Drops. It was an item rumoured to improve magician’s capabilities of casting spells. Mari decided to take it and hold it in her bag until they left the Cove for further decisions. Not long after they found the stairs and climbed down the next floor.
The next 2 floors were nothing too special of note. After the variety of caves and their environments they went through, the regular cave on eighth floor was nothing exciting and neither were the black goblins nor gloom widows that populated it. The ninth floor could have been more exciting as the environment reminded them of the tunnels under Mount Duergar and even the monsters were different as pythons and strange lizards roamed the floor. Unfortunately for the party, most of these ran away at the sight of the party so they weren’t even a time distraction. In the end they found the stairs in a random corner and left that place.
The 10th floor was where the scenery finally left the caves and returned to the sky. Again they found them in the area similar that to the Flying Fortress, but unlike the previous time, it was clear that this one was different. As far as they could see, there was no monster roaming around this place and the only direction they could take was to follow a corridor. After following it in what felt like they did a full circle, they ended on a small floating island with a dark blue flame preventing them from going further. Knowing what waited for them, Warriors prepared themselves for a tough fight and approached the flame. The flame screamed before turning into a strange purple cloud with yellow streaks and mouth that was almost as big as its body. By now the Warriors knew how to work with each other against these things Rosch and Mari casted Invisra and Protera for defence, Kelin casted Saber on himself to prepare for attack and Lewyn approached this thing, trying to punch it. This monster didn’t like a puny human doing that so he casted a wind spell and pushed Lewyn away, nearly causing him to fall from the island. While Mari was helping him, Rosch casted Haste to Kelin and helped distracting the monster. Lewyn, angry at nearly getting thrown out, responded by using his bracelet to cast Blink while Mari casted Protect on him. Now with all 4 of Warriors attacking it, the cloud tried to push them all away, but it failed to repeat the success. After getting Haste from Rosch, Lewyn tried to pummel the cloud, but his attacks seemed to do little effect. Rosch and Kelin jumped in to help him with Blizzaga and Ice Blade, forcing the cloud to take a more solid state. The final blow came from Mari who obliterated it completely, leaving only a strange helm behind. Kelin picked it up and put in his backpack. After a good hour of rest, they decided to press on.

I always thought that the other children were fake personalities constructed by Renne? I know there were other kids at paradise, but I've always thought the "roommates" were Renne's artificial personalities she created to take on the jobs in her stead. While she was physically taking on the jobs, mentally she could pretend that she was able to stay back in the room and be the only one not working to retain her sanity. I've always thought that this was confirmed to be true based on what the owner says when Renne takes on her "first job". "What are you going to be today? A sweet doll? A cool boy?". Even her last line of defence in order to keep her will to live was by cutting crosses into herself. Cross was the last of her personalities to "die". I was curious and I looked at the Kiseki Wiki on Renne and it says this:
"It appears that she didn't take part in any of the activities of the facility, instead remaining secluded in her room, left only to play with her plushies, all while her roommates, Cross, Etta, Adje, and Quatre, kept her away from the horrors experienced elsewhere in the lodge. It is later revealed that all of her roommates were actually personalities created by Renne herself as a product of a psychological self-defense mechanism. As time went on, her different "roommates" progressively "went missing", and she eventually had to confront reality with only reliance upon a drug given to her by Paradise's owner ."
Now I know the Kiseki Wiki isn't super reliable and up to date, but it supports the theory too. I've played all the games through ToCS4, and I don't remember this being disproved. Where is that disproved in the future?
That was my original theory, for all the reasons you said. And honestly, I wish it was true. However, the Crossbell games reveal a bit more about about what happened here, and I can't fully explain it myself since I'm waiting to play those.

Though even that is a *massive* understatement because well...no needs to say how absolutely messed up it is for any of them.

42:00- Thankfully I can keep my tears in, but what I can't stop is the utter despair and anger I feel towards the hell Renne faced. I'm very much a person who can't fathom harm being done to children. So seeing this door... Words can't do justice to how I feel besides no person, let alone a child, should ever go through and damn any monster who does this to others.
45:05- How bizarre. You'd think something like that would be recorded if that were the case.

In other news, a fair bit has happened since last times. Before going into work hell (which has calmed down for today and the next one or two), I got all of the gem rewards from the N/R Festival in Master Duel. I still haven't fully gotten all of the rewards, but only the rewards up to 10K points matters as they're all gems while everything above are the crappy "legendary" packs that only give two cards with 99% of them being not great (you can't even dismantle them either for crafting points). Still probably going to be playing the festival before going back into meta hell and deal with all the bs hand traps, Drytron, and whatever annoying decks pop up from time to time.
Also my copy of Kirby and the Forgotten Land came in Monday night. Haven't gotten too far in (just cleared the first world), but I'm already enjoying my time with the game and will be enjoying it.
Speaking of which, I think I'll go and do that now to help cleanse myself of this door.

The worst part is that children are being abused here which is highly illegal for very good reason.

Modern Yu-Gi-Oh meta does revolve a lot around negates which is quite a nuisance.

After Star Door 15, I went off to play Awakening and I beat Chapter 25 so now the path to the endgame has opened but we do have a lot of paralogues to get through first and these involve the bonus characters. I also made a fun Bow Knight Severa build since I really like what she looks like as a Bow Knight and since it utilises bows I decided that she will be the only character to have Galeforce.
To further cheer you up, there are some thinking points I have come up with that I would like to share.
So I decided that if I want to get into Trails I would start with Cold Steel 3 just because it is on console as well as the only home console I have access too but Cold Steel 1 can become an option once my brother's exam are over and I have access to the PS4.
Something I randomly dreamt about is if we were able to do a collab, what game would it be? This is kind of similar to the question where I asked what game would you like to see me LP if I was able to record anything.

I do find kind of bad since I kind of picked a deck many would use and others would resent for how common it was, but I'm still glad to use it overall, especially since I've always liked Rituals monsters and it's nice being in an era of the game where they can be good.
There are some annoying things with modern Yugioh and the negates, whether it be getting Ashed, Herald of Ultimate negate spam (Master Duel please ban the problem cards that create that hellish board state like the TCG did).

In regard to which one to start, I would probably ask some of the people here more familiar with the Trails series. My gut tells me CS1, but I would recommend getting a better second opinion than mine.
For that hypothetical question, it would very much depend on the type of game and the type of collab. By that, it would heavily depend on the game, such as is it a multiplayer or single player? For the latter bit would the type be a standard multi-player game or something like TRG does where they play a game where X member hasn't played Y game and decided to cover that game (kind of like their Super Metroid or Pikmin LPs). I feel like that would very much determine the game I would suggest.

One thing I realised from the dialogue was that Gakuen means Paradise but for some reason I thought Gakuen meant school before. I guess that shows I am pretty bad at listening to Japanese.
Personally, I have seen something more disturbing and that thing also had a bad ending on top but this door was still disturbing too since I was able to imagine everything that happened which did make me tense up.
It was good to see this door as well as that other thing be handled with lots of maturity due to the disturbing content.
This door does make you feel a lot for Renne no matter if you have or haven't played SC and it would be great to see her be with Estelle and Joshua in the future.

I do think the rumors of censorship have been blown out of proportion by the fandom, since it only seems to apply to one version of the game in China, while mostly it stayed the same everywhere else.

Yeah, this sort of writing is the reason why Renne is one of my favourite characters in the Trails series. I have to ask though, have you played Trails from Zero yet? It continues her story from the land where she was born. In fact, how up to date about Renne are you? Because despite the fact that she's a support character during the Cold Steel saga, she becomes more prominent during Trails into Reverie. There is a plot point present where Renne fulfills a role which she is exactly the person needed to help. Not Estelle with her eternal optimism nor Lloyd or Rean with the idealism they inspire, the situation called for Renne and only Renne. With all her experience and expertise, Renne was there to pay forward the compassion Estelle showed her eight games ago.
I finished Zero last year. Renne's story there is fantastic. I know she's got more focus in Reverie and Kuro 1, so I'm looking forward to that. (I know vague spoilers on both but not much about Renne's role in Reverie)

Exactly but fighting the other Abyss bosses isn't really worth it you'll probably end up around lv 145 by time you fight the last 4 bosses back to back and I believe this games max lv is either lv 149 or lv 150 but you'll never hit that lv once you hit lv 145 in the final dungeon exp starts to be worthless.

Poor Renne. I can see why she’s a screwed up person. But try to imagine what her character would have been like if she was male instead. One of my other main characters are very cynic about it and is the reason why he’s a woman hater.

He (a former skirt chaser) gets harassed by women himself, who were working with another woman to frame him for rape. He eventually got out of jail and was on the run in order to prove his name. He hated women ever since.

I'll just say be.... extremely careful when writing a character like that. It could work, but it also has the potential to backfire very badly if it doesn't.

How do you know that? Are you spoiled on every game already? Because I havent played the others yet but you took my excitement away saying that it wont get that dark again. I didnt want to know that. You shouldnt talk about any future developments. Thats all spoilers.
I just felt I had to do this because a fairly realistic depiction of a child brothel is not something most people expect to see in a JPRG like this. I didn't consider that a spoiler because Sky SC already heavily implied Renne's past.
But I understand. When I cover Star Door 14 I'm going to be very careful about future game spoilers and make sure to warm people before I discuss them.
