I've been using 2 Pot candle heaters and a Metal one all through the Winter in the UK ! The cool air is drawn in at the base so the candles have never caught fire ! I have used about 500 Candles and I have loads of Detectors for Carbon Monoxide and CO2 and Air Quality ! None of them have gone off !!!! My Butane camper heater sometimes sets off my Fire Alarms, but that's when some dust burns off it ! I have saved myself thousands of Pounds on my heating bills !!!! Sometimes when the wax gets very low a candle will start burning the Wax, but it doesn't cause a fire, and just smells a bit ! But I would not make my own heaters just to save a small amount of Money ! The Pot heaters are Really Good, and So is the metal one ! Formula for a flash fire. I found out the hard way using only 4 tea lights in a large chunk chicken can with hardware cloth for a grill. I set my bush pot of water on to heat water for coffee. The wax melted & ignited because I left it on too long. 20 minutes or so. You don't need a lid. Just a piece of hardware cloth to prevent anything from falling into the lit candles but letting the heat escape so it doesn't create a combustion fire.
If I set a heat-operated fan on top of the kerosene heater I've described in my own extensive comment earlier (pls read), will that extra dispersion method be enough to make internal heat safer? I'd be putting a magnetic thermometer on the main column while awake and then extinguishing the active fire source b4 going to sleep.
@@NAVYWhistleblowerAssassin I used candles in properly made candle heaters. I don't cook with them unless it's outside ! If you cover the candles it will get too hot and the wax will Ignite.
I've seen others that have a piece of metal flat on the wall behind your burner thing. This looks good for short term warmth, good job! Some things have this part exhausting out the candle smoke out but a second tube that's open to your heating space that absorbs heat from your candle flames by heat transfer so the candle smoke can go out a pipe and the 2nd tube runs through your burning can or across the top allowing heat to enter your heating space. That's great to see you tinkering and creating a helpful🙂gizmo for yourself!

It would be a good scam you would have to have multiple pots with a lot of candles and these candles he is using do not put out enough heat unless you have 20 to 30 of them and they burn out in 2 to 3 hours
Sounds like a good idea for whoever your life insurance beneficiaries are, but not for you. These candles are made of paraffin, which builds up concentrated fumes in a confined space like that, and then explode. Clips like these are uploaded for clicks, not to help you.
Awesome, just a thought but maybe a recycled tuna can on the top surface with some h20 could also do a little humidifier, work in a crooked tuna can lid to spin from the heat and a fan gets created.
As part of my reasonable preps for power outages (although we've never had one in my location longer than a very few hours), I bought an excellent vintage kerosene heater for my living room. If the electricity fails, I've thought of stacking half-bricks inside in a staggered chimney style with sand inside the column; it would have to be elevated off the bottom of the heater to allow canned fuel of some kind in there. Maybe park a heat-operated fan on top. The fuel would have to be lit with one of those long-stemmed thingies b4 placing the bricks of course. If I can locate a metal can of the right proportions, it could hold sand to store heat for when I need to conserve candles or whatever the base heat source is coming from. (I don't like the smell of kerosene or lamp oil and I doubt the dogs would either.) Same thing if by some chance I'm caught w/o enough propane canisters. But if there are plenty, I'm thinking maybe I could slip some kind of mini-propane stove (know where I could find one?) in there in place of most of the bricks and heat the heater and contents that way. It would be lovely if there were even some kind of canister with a tube burner attached so it could fit through the kerosene heater's slot that allows the stem for the knob for the fuel can to fit through it. Against official instructions to the contrary, I'm prepared to bring a 20-lb canister indoors and learn in advance how to safely refill smaller canisters from it rather than freezing to death despite other measures to keep warm. Meanwhile, absent emergency, I might stick a mini electric heater inside for the active heat source for supplemental heat to the main propane wall heater; the cord could come out the slot for the kerosene fuel canister that comes with the kerosene heater itself. Last alternate I've thought of for the active heat source might be one of those isopropyl soaked tp-roll arrangements in a can with a carbon filter - so I've heard at least, what burns is not the wet tp but rather the alchorub soaked up by the carbon wick - which some people forego but I'm not sure I would. Comments and suggestions appreciated. Except for the vintage kerosene heater itself, all this is theoretical at the moment.

My point was that for a small room you only need 3 to 4 candles and Obviously if you add more you'll get more heat. No matter the medium. Terracotta will hold heat longer meaning you can use less fuel and get the same high temps than a thin metal will and then disperse it more evenly through surface radiation. Terracotta should only crack from heat during firing and that's if they're still moist. The steam created can literally explode them. Or If they're cheap, meaning large air pockets then yeah maybe they can crack if there's humidity but that's less likely in a cold environment when this is needed. Additionally terracotta is fired clay, (which is just earth) it doesn't really have a "flash point" which is the temperature which a material catches fire. Both metal and clay have melting points. but steel and especially tin (that's what your can looked like) has a much lower melting point than clay.
