If it wasn't for my supportive wife, I would not only have been out of work but worse. 2 years ago i took my autistic daughter who also has hypertension and thyroid problems, and developed serious mental health issues due to lack of support in education, to the job centre ( in the neighbouring town as our local one was closed), in the hope they would have some support for her and help her to try to get into work. She had a 10 minute interview and was told they couldnt help, there was no funding. The same thing happened to my son who also has autism but was sent to a specialist school so is much more confident despite his learning difficulties. He is currently on a supported employment scheme, but there is only funding for monthly 1 hour meetings. The job centre have said the same thing, they have nothing for him, there is no more funding. He desperately wants to work. All he can get is volunteering. If Labour reforms to these services helps my kids have a life and gain independence then i am supporting them all the way.

Any problems inherited by the Conservatives in 2010 were the consequence of a global financial crisis. Domestically, Labour were doing really rather well up to 2008.
I thought Tony Blair should have come back when the tsunami swept across the Atlantic from America, and swamped banking. Gordon Brown took his eye off the ball at home, to go sort it all out, and David Cameron capitalised on Brown's divided attention.
Cameron almost won the election, but it was only with Lib Dem help he plunged the country into a decade of austerity - all sound economists say was utterly self-defeating. To say nothing of an EU referendum, no-one wanted but David Cameron.

We'll no - Brown and Blair allowed the lightest touch regulation on the banking system which in turn allowed it to turn into the wild west. Brown did pretty well to help stabilise the situation afterwards but he had allowed the mess to develop in the first place. Rightly labour got canned in 2010. the fact that the Tories still claim they were doing good things, while ignoring the fact that THEY made everything worse, even before Covid the country had already been subjected to rising unemployment, cuts to vital services, and pushing millions of ordinary people into poverty whereby so many were having to claim state benefits to boost income in order to survive... many of whom were already working multiple jobs... so the claim that they think they helped push up employment is laughable at best...
they still count the Zero Hours work as legitimate full employment, and having worked in a Zero Hours contract a few years ago, I can confidently state that it was NOT something you could depend on, or reliably do to survive.
they screwed the people, while robbing us blind.... robbing the public purse to pay for vanity projects, parties and ensure they had a luxury lifestyle while the people were told to tighten their belts... only time they did anything half decent was when Labour and other parties bullied them into doing so, but like every Tory government they give with one hand, take from the other, and ridicule and subject the poor to humiliation and even punish the people... claiming the people who claim benefits for the Tory government's damage are a drain on the country, even claim we were leeches... while they themselves leeched off tax payers for sandwiches and things they could afford to pay for, but didn't want to dip into their vast wealth... funny how the people are the leeches when the Tories were leeching off the people for so long and pushing the whole country into debt....
also their argument of Labour leaving them with so much debt... wonder if they realised that the only way Labour could pay for that crap the Tories left the country in before Blair got in was WHY they borrowed so much to pay for the volume of debt and cuts that were accrued.... and instead of the Tories doing what they claimed they were going to do to clear the debt, actually pushed it up to 3-4 Trillion £'s far more than what debt was left by labour...
then there's the £32B black hole in funds which added to their debt, a sum of money no one can understand where it went... I have an idea, try looking in the Cayman's in their offshore accounts...
funny how they claim greatness while being the reason why they were not voted in as this term's government, and before people start going off and claiming Reform is the only way forward.....
Reform doesn't give a crap about the people, they just want to cause crap, and have the benefits and wealth of MP's they dont represent the people.... only their own interests and the interests of their wealthy bosses, just like their Tory colleagues and brethren

Helen Wheatley is simply another Shadow Minister whom is purely a former monumentally failed government Minister of the comprehensively rejected former Conservative government.
Helen Whately, and her Conservative colleagues are utterly clueless about the welfare benefits system, especially the disability and long term sickness benefits system.
Wheatley and her Conservative governments were very the period 2010 to 2024 have taken great delight in ‘being tough’ on benefit and especially disability and sickness benefits system claimants…. Implementing reforms making the assessments system even more punitive and mean spirited. All in the name of getting them back to work. The result? Inflicting great pain and harm upon vulnerable claimants already struggling to manage their disability/ disabilities and/ or chronic illnesses, and far from supporting them to move closer to securing paid work, pushing them further and further away from work as more obstacles are placed in their way.
I cannot believe that Whately has the audacity to chide Labour for a lengthy consultation of disabled and long term sick benefit claimants and the charities and support organisations that help them. This is more than long overdue as disabled and long term sickness benefits claimants have for far too long been ignored, disregarded and abused by atrocious, punitive, mean spirited, and serially failed Conservative benefits policies and reforms.
