So after several years of a disappointing Vince Young and the devestation of Hurricane Katrina, the Saints franchise is on the brink of moving. But they have one desparate play left. Hometown hero Peyton Manning missed the 2011 season, and the Colts, with the opportunity to draft Andrew Luck, release him. Instead of going to Denver, he goes to New Orleans, who build an offense around him similar to what Denver did, and he wins his first Super Bowl as a Saint.

KTO, I remember the first time Brees was placed into a game his rookie year to replace the ineffective starter. it was shortly after the start of the second half against the Chiefs at the Murph. Right away, Brees demonstrated a poise and ability to read the defence with the skill of a seasoned veteran rarely seen from a rookie QB. The Chargers won that game, in fact, it was the only game they one that year, but it was obvious that the helm was now his, that was 2000. I remember following the 2003 season all the calls for Brees to be sent packing. When ever I heard a fan say that, I would tell them that Brees isn't the problem, that the problem with Brees was nearly every snap he was running for his life and that an Elway, Marino or any other great QB wouldn't be anymore effective passing and scoring scrambling away from linemen every snap either. 2004, I was proved right, 2004, the team had an offensive line that could and did protect him and they won their first AFC West crown since 1995. With the drafting of Rivers, the rotator cuff injury in week 16 of 2005 as well as the personality and attitude of the general manager set up a situation where the team had two QB's of top tier ability and neither one would (knowing they could start for any team)be willing to be slotted in a back up roll. With the type of injury Brees sustained which left enough uncertainty he would be able to play to the level he had before being injured (No doubt, I'm sure that Brees was in disagreement enough with Smith's way of doing things that having a young and talented QB that was capable of stepping in and winning games, made Brees departure inevitable. I do not think Brees would have been able to take the Chargers to winning a super bowl for the same reason that Rivers wasn't able to when all the talent was still there, because of Smith, just as L.T. has said was the cause of the team failing to reach the SB. I am glad things turned out for him as they did and for N.O. Saints, they both were what the other needed, the Saints needed a QB that could lead the offence it had in place, Brees a team that not only needed a QB, but was open and willing to hear what he thought and customise an offence built for his abilities as a QB and leader on the field. Both did for the other what it took to win a championship. Smith as a GM was to rigid to be anything but the boss or to listen to any idea for running the team and relating to the personel than his way. Matt Millen had the same detrimental effect to the Lion's and caused constant friction with the staff and was the reason that even proven winning coaches that went there soon quit and the team never developed the stability and cohesion of an offence and defensive philosophy that a coaching staff that is in place for more than 1 or 2 seasons bring and is necessary for winning.

people always like to say brees would be good with the chargers but everyone forgets that he had the exact same team that went 14-2 and they finished 8-8 he just wasn't good with the chargers
Couldn't agree more! I'm born and raised San Diegan and was so excited during this part of Charger history. I was appalled, along with many others, at the change. AJ Smith and Spanos approval of his decisions ruined the hope of the city.
As a former San Diego Charger fan this makes me sick. The “what if” game is tough on the soul. But a nice dream nonetheless. We still love you Breeser!
SO MUCH NOSTALGIA. I miss hearing these names so much D: I was bummed hearing we replaced Marty and Brees. Then, we lost our local NFL team to LA of all places over a decade later. I'm glad Brees is doing well, at least.
As a Charger fan, I don't think Brees would have been able to win one for us. When we had the pieces for it, it wasn't Philip that lost us the games. LT would get injured in the playoffs, Kaeding could never make a playoff field goal for his life, Marlon McCree fumbled a game winning interception, etc. then after our best season, our ownership fires our head coach and puts in Norv Turner. Then LT doesn't like his new role with the team, or Norv and gets cut for the Jets. Brees wouldn't have changed anything. He's never had a good running game in NO so he passes a lot. If he was still with us, he'd have LT and not throw as much.
This breaks my heart. Philip Rivers is an incredible quarterback and all of these Chargers fans saying they would have rather stayed with Brees are fucking disrespectful. Yes Brees is one of the best, but he has the Saints. Also, let's not forget that Brees just beat Philip Rivers a few weeks ago for best passing completion in a game. I'm sad we haven't gone to a super bowl either, but I dont believe we would have gotten there with Brees either. The chip along with having a good Saints team and a cheating coach got him to the super bowl. I have a lot of respect for Brees and I love him especially because he is a former Charger, but I cannot get behind any bad talk about Philip Rivers. He has just as many records as many elite quarterbacks without having a consistently good team, and to me that is more impressive.
#WhatIfBrees Very well done video man. I would love to see you do a video on Marshawn Lynch and what he could do on the Oakland Raiders! That team right now looks playoff ready if Carr could stay healthy (ironic that both brother seemingly had bad seasons due to injuries)
WhatifBrees I'm a die hard Chargers fan and I remember my dad throwing a remote through the TV screen when he found out the Chargers dumped Brees and Schotty. Worst trade deal in the history of trade deals.
I think this is your most accurate "what if" video. The only thing I disagree with is Bree's becoming a monster QB after the 05 season. It's plausible, but I'm a broncos fan and I'm 30. I remember when John Lynch injured Bree's on a safety blitz. Back then, Bree's wasn't a very confident guy. He was good, but he played like a guy that knew the coach didn't trust him and the front office faith in him was fading. If he did stay, I think he would continued his above average play with Rivers eventually replacing him with Brees getting traded or Rivers getting traded and Brees continuing 13 years of mediocrity. Personality wise, Bree's became the leader of the Saints and the city of New Orleans. He gained confidence from the fact that New Orleans made him the guy despite his shoulder. I don't know if he would have become that guy in San Diego. But it's certainly not outside the realm of reality. Another thing, I disagree with Rivers being traded to the Browns. It's plausible, but back then when it was possibility Brees was the franchise QB, SF inquired about Rivers before the 05 season. Good video. But...what if Brees choose Miami instead of New Orleans after the 05 season?
Ik this video is old but I’m pretty sure that the saints wouldn’t have drafted a quarterback but instead gone for Romo. Sean Payton was coming from Dallas and was pushing for the saints to acquire romo
As a Vikings fan, I would have loved to have seen the Vikings and Chargers duke it out Super Bowl XLIV. Chargers are another one of my favorite teams to watch.
I became a saints fan in 2006 when I turned on the TV and seen drew operate a team to glory like no other. I grew up in Tennessee and watched peyton in his prime college years too.
I want to point out, because you cant talk about Rivers without talking about the Eli Manning trade, that they also had a pro bowl caliber kicker in Nate Kaeding. Additionally, they had Michael Turner still behind LT, who would later become an important factor in Atlanta's offense when he left, and Darren Sproles. All three running behind 2 time first team all pro bowl FB Lorenzo Neal, who by the way was often money when given the ball to secure a tough first down in his own right. They might've forced the ball in situations near the goal line to LT that magical season, but they had the talent to score regardless if LT was back there or not in the run game. A rediculous amount, actually, when you consider it. Team had some very good players, and a coach they loved to play for. For me,I love this topic because everyone always compares Rivers to Manning, but few ever consider Brees to Rivers. I'm glad you're willing to bring this topic up too!
Unfortunately the theory the Chargers would have done better with Brees is false. First, Brees flourished because of his match with Sean Oayton, under Schottenheimer he would have never had the amount of passing he is now known for. Second, there was a good 50% chance Brees never comes back from the injury. Third, the failure in the playoffs was due to playing tight which is a hallmark if both the Chargers and a Schottenheimer coached team which causes mental mistakes. Guess what two years before that season the same thing happened with a powerful chargers team vs the jets. Chargers lost with who as their QB, yep, Brees who had a breakout year that year. Fourth, don't forget that if it wasn't for choking the Chargers should have beat the Patriots and had them beat.
T Jones the chargers lost because of Marlon McCree in the 06 playoffs. Watch a football life marty schottenheimer. He went to all the dbs and told them to go straight to the ground after they pick off brady in the 4th quarter
I agree with everything you stated. Brees needed Peyton, and Peyton needed Brees. Peyton adjusted the offense to Drew’s strengths he used at Purdue. Shottenheimer wouldn’t have done that.
Philip Lopiano so you answer with emotion vs evidence. You should realize part of brees becoming brees is because of a perfect match with coach Peyton. That doesn’t happen and brees likely is an above avg QB. You fail to also use evidence that Marty tended and did call overly conservative games in the playoffs which that year stifled the team and causes tight players.
I know this is almost 2 years in the future, but I still think Philip Rivers has always been stuck with a bad team. 2017 chargers were decent and 2018 chargers were good. Before then though, they weren't successful.
#WhatifBrees Although because Rivers is my favorite player, if Brees stayed he might have been my favorite player because i wasn't a fan of football until 2008 which is when i liked the chargers because of their uniforms and just the whole bolt kinda thing they have goin, great video as always!

As a Saints fan that 1 super bowl is the only thing we got in the entire existence of the damn franchise 😭 so I can’t imagine what it’ll be like if he didn’t leave the chargers 😭
You are like mike korzembam of football and that's amazing
people always like to say brees would be good with the chargers but everyone forgets that he had the exact same team that went 14-2 and they finished 8-8 he just wasn't good with the chargers
Dude went 12-4 and made the playoffs and was a pro bowler in 04 wym he “wasn’t good”
Agreed rivers belonged more than brees
Couldn't agree more! I'm born and raised San Diegan and was so excited during this part of Charger history. I was appalled, along with many others, at the change. AJ Smith and Spanos approval of his decisions ruined the hope of the city.
As a former San Diego Charger fan this makes me sick.
The “what if” game is tough on the soul. But a nice dream nonetheless.
We still love you Breeser!
Mega Makina Bandwagon
watching this as a chargers fan :(
Also, I wasn't mad in any way watching Brees win the SB, I was happy he won and I'm glad his talents didn't go to waste here in San Diego.
Tim Peters respect
Tim Peters most Charger fans felt that way
SO MUCH NOSTALGIA. I miss hearing these names so much D:
I was bummed hearing we replaced Marty and Brees. Then, we lost our local NFL team to LA of all places over a decade later.
I'm glad Brees is doing well, at least.
you put a lot of work into these
Keep up the good work man your on point with your videos huge drew brees fan
5:46
Wait
Can I get the what if without that?
Plus the Raiders had Randy Moss
That would’ve made for an interesting trade
I get excited every time you post
Great video keep making more I love them
I love making them!
KTO I can't wait till you make more what ifs
As a dedicated Chargers and Rivers fan, I couldn't agree more with this video. So sad that this didn't play out...
Mystical Murray This. Honestly brees was not that good on the chargers. He didn't become elite until he went to the saints imo
Mystical Murray but you'll never get me to understand why we fired Schottenheimer after a 14 and 2 season, I don't get it..
I'm a Chargers fan and stand by this.
I am a Chargers fan and I DO NOT stand by this
So what if brees wouldn't throw as much. He's more poised and smarter than rivers
I think I'm a fan of the old music more but great work man!! One of my favorite TH-camrs.
WhatifBrees
I'm a die hard Chargers fan and I remember my dad throwing a remote through the TV screen when he found out the Chargers dumped Brees and Schotty.
KTO please do the 07' Pats vs the 72' Dolphins
I will man, in due time
KTO Thanks
Good call
Case Johnson PLEEEAASE
Eye Eh
Please do not stop making videos. I love them so much
Go saints
Who dat
Ik this video is old but I’m pretty sure that the saints wouldn’t have drafted a quarterback but instead gone for Romo. Sean Payton was coming from Dallas and was pushing for the saints to acquire romo
#WhatifBrees
They would have sucked
As a Vikings fan, I would have loved to have seen the Vikings and Chargers duke it out Super Bowl XLIV. Chargers are another one of my favorite teams to watch.
His made me cry on how stupid we were on tradin brees😭
I became a saints fan in 2006 when I turned on the TV and seen drew operate a team to glory like no other. I grew up in Tennessee and watched peyton in his prime college years too.
As a Saints fan thank you for letting Drew slip away...
I'm am so dumb when you said LT I thought Lawrence Talor 🤣
Nice video can you do what if drew bledsoe never got injured or what if the tuck rule was called differently. but great video
no bledsoe injury --> no tuck rule game
I wake up everyday and hope u uploaded.
Watching this the day Antonio Gates retired is depressing me 😔
I want to point out, because you cant talk about Rivers without talking about the Eli Manning trade, that they also had a pro bowl caliber kicker in Nate Kaeding.
Marlon McCree...
I disagree completely, in the Pat's game they would have been up by 3 scores instead of 2 with brees. They would have 1 ring for sure.
Great vid as always
I know this is almost 2 years in the future, but I still think Philip Rivers has always been stuck with a bad team. 2017 chargers were decent and 2018 chargers were good. Before then though, they weren't successful.
the 06 thru 09 chargers teams were stacked.
Coming from a saints fan. Thank you chargers
Do what if Payton never left the Colts
Yes, please!
As much respect I have for manning, he would've ended up living in a wheelchair if he stayed with the colts.
Nice video. Love all of your videos.
If Drew Brees was still with San Diego, he would still be the starter and Eli Manning would be playing for his Dad,s old squad the Saints.
good video as always!
Can you do a what it the 49ers never fired Jim harbaugh?
#WhatifBrees Although because Rivers is my favorite player, if Brees stayed he might have been my favorite player because i wasn't a fan of football until 2008 which is when i liked the chargers because of their uniforms and just the whole bolt kinda thing they have goin, great video as always!
(9:11) "and a lack of bringing talent around him and a lack of bringing in talent around them"😂😂😂
41k subs rn, a mil in the making. nice vids bro

Subbed because of the what if.....nice job
What If Ryan Leaf was drafted by the Colts
HDK0603 short video. Colts would suck and leaf would be done after 3 years
yeah but then the question arrises on how good the chargers would have been
laughed my ass off! we all want to know a what if san diego minus ryan leaf!!
That’s our old KTO! #WhatIfBrees
Can you do a "What if Neil O'Donnell won SBXXX"? #WhatIfBrees
Great edit on the saints draft pick
Please do "what if tom Brady was never in he NFL)
Stellar breakdown 👌
KTO Do a what if Sean Taylor was never murdered please
Wow great video! I love these kinds of vids! #WhatIfBrees
Robbed of nothing... They're the Chargers... They Rob themselves every year since the franchise was born... Just good never great
2:07 THE INJURED GUY. I was dying in laughter
what if carr never got injured
manny boy the Patriots still would've won
no raiders
manny boy What if they would've beaten the Pats, but fell short to the Steelers?
I highly doubt the Raiders would have won that game. Carr has a bright future ahead of him, but I don't see somebody that early in their career stopping him.
yhea
Love your stuff man, GO BROWNS ! (from Richmond VA)
They could've defiantly won a super bowl if brees stayed but I gotta say I love me some Phillip Rivers
I love mike and nicks what if nba videos but this was just as great and interesting. Not alot of people do nfl what ifs.
