I just found a pack of this film in my grandmother's temperature controlled storage unit today. Would be happy to give it to you. I bet you have a better chance of getting it to work then I do.

Also, why is no one talking about the Polaroid Go only having 8 shots a cartridge as well? They had a chance to make it 10, but when I asked Polaroid about it, they still gave me the classic "the new film is thicker... bla bla bla" excuse, which I really don't think is valid for this entirely new format.

@@tresto9514 it’s just an excuse to make more money per pack. You know what else no one mentions? The fact that their film chemistry STILL fails to reliably spread cleanly over all of the frame, even in the new cameras... Unless they’re pre-dirtying their Polaroid I-Type camera rollers, I want an answer.
Holy cow, I can't believe it was back in December when I talked to Thomas about his successful use of Polavision. Am glad he sent you a working cartridge and that his stuff was shared with the world, it was very cool to watch.

I love that you used it while hanging out with your family. Something about using it the way it was more than likely meant to be used just made it more special.
This video made me realize that polavision is basically motion picture autochrome, which is pretty awesome.

I worked at Polaroid in the late 90s-2000s and one older guy I worked with was given a task in the mid to late 80s: smash all the unsold polavision cameras kept in shipping containers at the Needham MA warehouse.
Well, that was a kind of milestone….. and literally a “one in a lifetime” experience! 😃💥👌👍
Today I visited a garage sale in Colorado and found a Polavision Case with instant replay control and a seal polavision photo tape cassette,the lady told me it has been storage since she buy it , I just started to investigate about this camera and your video has help me understand how everything work, thank you for this awesome video

Great video! I bought one of these system back in the late 70s. I'm sure it was on some kind of close-out deal. It was about $150 or so which was a lot of money to a young teenager back then, but I couldn't believe that the capability to shoot film and watch it 10 minutes later even existed. This was a miraculous promise in the pre-video camera era so I scraped my pennies together.
I shot about 10 cartriges. I don't remember how much the cartriges were back then, but I'm sure they couldn't have been cheap. We made a movie called "Mr. Clumsy" about an awkward guy who tripped and fell over the cliffs near the Golden Gate Bridge. We dressed a dummy up and threw him off. You have to remember there was absolutely no editing capabilities available in this system so you could distinctly see two people throwing Mr. Clumsy over the edge.
My favorite memory of the system that was shown in your video was that movie light! It was SO bright and it got SO hot that I was worried I'd burn someone with it.
Now there is hardly anyone on the face of the earth who doesn't have far superior video creating equipment right in his or her pocket. Even though this is true today, I'll never forget how much fun we had with my Poloroid movie system.
Congratulations for getting to do this. That's a real honor. Love this "humans seeing fire for the first time " moment! LOL @ 05:00 thats the magic of film...no one does that for video.
This is amazing. This has now become a very historic film. And the volunteer subjects are going to become famous now.
My salute to the unsung hero that kept 2 cartridges frozen for 40 years
I love this video! I could just feel your excitment being able to record on that old format. Hundreds of years from now I bet this video will be greatly appreciated by future generations. Way to go. I liken you to be an arecheologist just as much as you are an expert of film.
As a kid I found a box of old cameras and a boxy-screen type thing. I had no idea at the time, and ended up keeping the video camera element of this set-up! I just recently sold it with a lot of other old cameras, BUT I just came across a pile of family videos in these old 608 Polavision cartridges!

Crazy. I remember seeing one of these a K-mart when I was a kid. It was fascinating how it could possibly work. Hey I have a Kodak instant film cartridge that's been frozen since their patent debacle. Want it?
And now we can take movies with our phone that have quality easily very acceptable for anyone.
In fact, my friend who is a videographer says he himself cannot tell the difference between footage from a phone and that of a several thousand dollar digital camera.
He also says they can shoot professionally on digital well enough to almost entirely mimic the look and feel of film (if they want to).
Looking back at what we wouldn't put up with in 1979 shows us that the marketplace, given its head, can bring us greater and greater things.

Polavision 10 years earlier might've slowed the home video birth by another decade. At the very least, this kind of shoot & develop film tech would've likely lasted late into the 80's and potentially into the early 90's.
How fabulous!!! I worked in the photo department of a chain store in the late 70s, I played with it as a demo thing ... so cool you actually got results!!! BTW in the 70s when I was in charge of filming Super 8 movies of family events, I always made people wave!!!

Yeah this is so cool! I to have a complete polavision set but the player has a gear that has split in two. I also have developed cartridges but never played them. I mainly have them because eumig has produced these sets for polaroid so it fits in my collection

I had no clue this was a thing. Very interesting!
Dufaycolour was made in cine and slide formats in the late 1940s/1950s. The base film was Ilford FP3? and the additive layer was in stripes. Of course the same process was used for Autochrome around 1900. The Dufaycolour movies could be projected on normal projectors so maybe Polaroid could have produced a projectable film?
Interesting that you had success with Polavision in July and I had success for the first time with Polachrome instant slide film. I'm so impressed with the results I got. The technology is amazing. I was a student when it was first introduced and remember thinking I could not afford the processor but it was something I always wanted to try. It was worth the wait. Despite bad timing and low sales, the innovation is still what Land was all about and he was totally successful. Sadly Land-style innovation is currently totally absent in the current Polaroid company. When I use their current 600 instant film, I often feel like I'm buying defective product. I hope quality improves and I hope innovation becomes important again.
Today we were cleaning out our grandmother's storage. And I found one pack of polavision film unopened. The storage was temperature controlled. I wonder if the film has a chance of working.
Unfortunately the camera that was next to it was completely destroyed.

This is likely the only one of these films with footage of modern beach furniture or a flat panel computer monitor.
I think the exposed film is quite temperature sensitive so, if you do indeed intend to keep your forty-year old 'Phototape', I'd seal it in a bag and keep it cold. I tried reviewing a few of my films several years after normal room-temperature storage and none was playable - a broad stripe of discoloration had replaced the centre of every film. 'Best of luck from the UK.

wow, i have the same sit of camera and viewing screen with some types that i think some of them was devolved, i remember watching some videos on that screen in early 80s, i will try to see if i can make it work.

oh man.. someone in my area sold a polavision camera with the monitor for 45€ or so.. i with i had had the money to buy it at that time =/ it‘s such a cool looking thing..
