I think he’s talking to himself in most of this song, as well as the more straightforward meaning of the lyrics. Everything is upgraded. Even the cat lol and with him he might have also be implying the other “cat” got upgraded too 😂 There are always like 4 different meanings to his shit. 🖤🖤
This album was really a rebirth for his persona. It was the first album after he cut his hair. With this track (and video) he’s effectively killing off what he was known as. That Weeknd is dead and he’s moved on, as should we with our expectations. That’s why he destroyed his records and awards and burned his closet of clothes. None of that defines him, and people-whether consciously or not-were placing him inside of a box with a certain kind of music.
