unfortunately making hacks for the n64 only ever became viable in 2019 due to rom manager/decomp so only a bit of that was actually developing on the N64. most of these are emulator only hacks :(

Kaze's recent work on the platform is a labor of love. The devs for SM64 had some pretty strict deadlines they needed to meet. Kaze's deadline is when he's happy with his work, so he can spend time polishing performance to a mirror shine
Kaze, who is normally so forgiving to the original developers because hindsight is 20/20, completely roasting them for not implementing split-screen co-op in the original release is so fucking funny to me.
To be fair the game had been in development for years and they had to get it out so the Nintendo 64 had it on release. Not doing the split screen i the Japanese only uograded version is still stupid however as they had no rush to launch that one.

18:06 Honestly, Super Mario 64 Land is the best SM64 hack there is. It's one of the few hacks that actually feels like a complete game, there's just so much fun to be had with the moment to moment gameplay, creative level design and concepts and the original soundtrack. I don't understand the problem people had with 2-1
Last Impact is definitely one of the more jankier hacks he has made, but it definitely should be in a tier due to how it kinda revived sm64 hacking as a whole and probably introduced alot of people to rom hacks in the first place (like me!)
I'll try to phrase it in a constructive way, but Last Impact suffers from the classic Kaze issue... on steroids. It's all fun and giggles until you reach that one part that still looks good but feels terrible to play. He gets way too excited with adding new mechanics and powerups, but the more you deviate from the base game, the more testing you need to do to make sure everything will flow well from a gameplay perspective. And he (probably) doesn't have a team of guys of different skill levels giving him constant feedback. He makes impressive hacks and out of all the stuff he adds, most of it works great, but when it doesn't, it REALLY doesn't. You go from having a blast to getting frustrated about the jank in like a fraction of a second. Now this got a lot better with time, but Last Impact can be pretty unbearable at times.
I didn't realize you had so many projects! I feel like many people assume you just popped up out of no where when Last Impact released, but man you put in the work
The Missing Link is a definitive masterpiece. Every area was rife with atmosphere and character of its own. Not to mention all customized areas and music, new items, and a new boss at the end. We entreat you-please, create more Ocarina hacks. They’re in a class of their own.
Watched this video after playing world 1 for a bit - didn’t know 2-1 was notorious. Played the 2-1 with the trampolines tonight after watching this… the problem is not being able to change direction in midair enough. At the final climb I realized the one weird trick was to not try to turn around and use the cat power up and climb because I would just glide to death. User error. At a previous climb it felt like Sonic Adventure bumpers where the camera gets locked and it feels like a cutscene you can mess up with a button press. Also you are amazing and I am thankful for your work.
Last Impact was my first introduction to your channel. I had never played a rom hack before it, so I got all stars without having a proper controller, controlling mario with keyboard buttons and arrow keys was one of the hardest gaming experiences I've ever had LMAO! I ended up 100% completing it. It took way longer than it ever should have, but I look back on it so fondly that it's still my favorite.
Kaze is the reason I know sm64 the way it realy is, a game engine, thanks to him I discovered a whole new world of new experiences, I started with return to yoshis island then star road then waluigis taco something (idr the full name) then some smaler hacks like halloween jams, xmas, etc, then b3313 and way, way more. Im just thankfull to have discovered this world of creativity and dedication into one single old ass video game
Honestly, I'd be hella down to continue the cancelled sunshine project as a collab. With that i mean if you or someone else could host a collab letting romhackers join in and participate with a sunshine level remade into SM64, would be cool
Super Mario 64 land is my favourite romhack ever i mean the moveset, the power ups, the bosses and the levels each one with diferents themes and gimmicks, this game trully deserves a sequel (sorry for my bad english)
yeah i was like the main guy on the project. the first year was just me working on it until zel and cdi-fails joined the project and remade a lot of content to be higher quality.

It really was one of Simple’s best videos. Overall I agree with the grades you gave for your hacks, But I think last impact could’ve been low A tier. I know it was received very well from the few reviews I saw of it & even when when I played it years ago I had a blast doing 100%. I just don’t think it aged particularly well
Gotta say I hope that this list leads some people to check out the other hackers you mentioned, the lack of fanbases they have in comparison to you (not that you dont deserve it) kills me.
Totally agree Peach's Fury is the best rom hack you've released. Start to finish you focused on fun. Really enjoyed it. It kinda of reminded me of the core of Mario 3 on NES.
I'd love to see you remake the Super Mario 64 DS or the N64. The graphics on SM64DS is offputting when compared to the N64 SM64, so i'm definitely keen on a remake.

*at least
Two words, not one. Think of the phrase "at the very least."
"I don't care about activism, I'm not even going to pretend I do."
Screamingly, obscenely, insanely, overwhelmingly based.
I really wish some of these hacks could be updated. Ones like SM64 Open World would be way less glitchy with the new tools and knowledge
I 100% agree, for example a more polished Odyssey
A polished SM64 ocarina of time hack would go so unbelievably hard.
