Great job exploring what looks like a "little" game, but you really bring out the fact that there's a lot going on here. Being sensitive to the theme but enthusiastic about the gameplay is something I was trying to convey so I'm grateful that my game fit your approach. I'm still amazed nobody has done this conflict before!
Another gem from the maestro? Seriously though, you did an excellent job giving us a piece of history in a playable format. Can't wait to see what you're cooking up next.
@@WayneHansen Thanks again. Next on tap is something offbeat -- the cultural and territorial expansion of the Kwakiutl Indians of British Columbia (totem poles, war canoes) and their survival. A lot of mechanics derived from my recent games plus the old Ben-Wes "Mound Builders" from some years ago.
Good overview, thanks. I recently played this (last month) and had similar experiences (e.g., need for better player aids/graphic layout but good replayability/gameplay/choices and introduction to the topic, etc.).
A really great overview of the game. I will definitely pick this one up. For the record, Tete Province in Mozambique is pronounced like "Tai-Tai", with the emphasis on the second "T".
Thank you for this! It's one of the games that make a difference. Unfortunately couldn't find it anywhere available in Europe and I'm just a few steps away from finishing my PnP
Finally found a website in Europe that sell this one. I bought this game and the game Stilicho. Hope to receive it soon. Your explanation of Stilicho was great. I'm looking forward to the playthrough of The White tribe. Keep up the good work!
Good overview Wayne. I am muddling my way through the game doing my first play through and did the first turn yesterday. So this was helpful and I agree with the history aspect of the game. R. Ben Madison's comments and historical overviews in the rule manual of the that time period are interesting and educational. I am retired so I lived through the history and clearly remember the South African and Rhodesian regimes of that time period with not much fondness I must admit. The board and turn track are very cluttered and that could have been better. The game overall should be provide a lot of tough decisions. It has like a 8.3 rating on BGG with a lot of favorable comments. Will look forward to your next video on playing though several turns of the game.
My plan is to take my time and play through a few turns, explaining everything as I go. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I think it will help some people to appreciate what the game has to offer and get them playing it more easily.
Thanks! I've been eyeing this game for a while, very interested in it but didn't know what to make of it. Now I do know: make it part of my collection!
Thank you for the review! Would you estimate how much luck dependant is this game? Suppose I have quite a bad luck in d6 rolls - would the smart decisions I made ;-) counter it and let me win?
Hello! Luck is a big part of the game, however there are opportunities to mitigate the luck. The game also has a way of telling a story. So even bad "luck" at times is really just the game creating a narrative. I really enjoyed it overall.
Bought this for the history. What happened to Rhodesia was bound to happen But what's happened to Zimbabwe is nobody's fault but the government people who took everything they wanted and screwed their people over royally in my humble opinion. We don't hear the news here in USA, but stuff's happening in South Africa and we could wind up seeing another failed country in Africa in the next 10-20 years or so....
Please do play through. This is such an interesting game and seeing it played will help me further understand the rules.

You designed a masterpiece, sir! It's one of only 2 games I've rated a perfect 10.

We are usually on the same page, so honestly, no surprise here!

Thank you! And good info.
I have this game and have been wanting t play it so this is great timing, even though I’m about a year late to see the post, LOL. Thanks, Wayne!!
Haha no worries... thankfully there's no expiration date on either my videos, or excellent games like this.
Thank you for this!

I'm glad the video was helpful Bob.
Great review of a cool looking game
Q. What did they use for light before candles in Zimbabwe?
A. Electricity
Same as South Africa. What a coincidence.
