*I also agreed with your accurate observations on Winter and to some extent, extending to Karina too. They are still not as experienced in managing their facial expressions and gazes to match whatever they are doing compared to the veterans like Hyoyeon and Taeyeon. They had plenty of camera time and focus but their expressions remain more or less the same ones. Understandably, I think the pressure was very high on them to be working with their seniors too and I heard it was freezing cold at the studio too.*
*The SNSD sunbaes showed how it was done by spicing up their parts with attitude and the facial transitions to match. Even though Hyoyeon moved way too fast to see her facial expressions during the dance break, her body language and hair porn (it's amazing that even her hair listened to her commands) resonated well with her parts. Taeyeon's facial expressions were on point, locking well with the camera and demonstrating how she transited from one emotion to another clearly and effortlessly.*
Yes, Hyo has a charm in stage...she is amazing. TaeYeon has the legend wink. Wendy and Seulgi, they are chameleons for me...they can do whatever they want to do it. Boa well, it's Kpop essence!

I agree with the Winter part. She's an amazing vocalist but I feel like she often shy away from making unconventional faces/rough attitude on stage. If we just crop out her face during each of Aespa's title stages, you wouldn't be able to differentiate which stage is which because it's the same. But I feel like this is just because of a rookie mindset that she will eventually learn to move pass. She's probably just getting used to it yet or is still playing it safe, let's give her more years and we'll see. Karina is a great center for Aespa tho +++ BoA is timeless. You can tell the way she moves has this BoA trademark on her. It's honestly making me cry to see her with Girls' Generation because of what you said. ++ Hyo's charisma is already known but Taeyeon is a scene stealer and she's not even the member with the most stage presence in GirlsGen but look at her still. GirlsGen members just can't be outmatched. ++ RV girlies did great as usual. I love SM. Their vocal techniques are all great.
Yeah I agree, I never really had an issue with it but I definitely can see that it is one area she can improve on. It's weird though, despite her facial expressions remaining the same each performance, I'm still drawn to her fancams over the others in Aespa. Like if Taeyeon wasn't in this video, my eyes would probably be stuck on Winter majority of the time, or BoA 😂
BOA and Taeyeon stage presence here is unmatched, just look at them , the smile, the smirk, the way they moves, experience shows at best, Taeyeon is a scene stealer i agree, she’s being a member of the most legendary girl group i’ve known, if you just watch SNSD in their live performance all the members have a unique facial expression and attitude in stage that is something you dont find in other girl group
Agreed, Taeyeon is just natural at scene stealing she doesn't need big motions or effort. If we pay attention to her dance, she's not as powerful or as detail as the other girls, even during SNSD's performances, cmiiw. Even her killing part is just chill dance and not snappy snap as Seulgi's. I am not sure what is her intention, is it to make another shine or any other reasons. And she still catch people's attention.
RV girls are really being played down. Wendy's vocals were consistently the best of the group except when Tayeon had the killing part. Seulgi as the dance center Shon past the other members with her dancing.

15:10 Yeah, I agree with you on Winter's expressions sometimes lacking that oomph in certain parts of the choreo. She seems to be concentrating on getting the choreo right, so it probably is making it hard for her make the necessary facial expressions. I do hope she will get to do it with more ease as time goes by

I see your point about Winter's lack of more "aggressive" or "fierce" facial expressions and it definitely will come with more time. I never really noticed it in any of Aespa's videos, but here when you're looking at veteran idols with many years of experience being on stage, it's a lot easier to pick up on. In comparison to Boa, Taeyeon, and Hyoyeon who have had 15+ years of experience being on stage, it's quite obvious that the Aespa girls are the "rookies" here. You can even compare them to Wendy and Seulgi who have only been idols for 7 years in order to improve their stage presence.
But I don't doubt that she'll get a lot better, I mean, she's only had a year being on stage. She definitely has the potential to do so. And I'll give her the benefit of the doubt here because she's probably under a lot of pressure performing with some of the biggest seniors in the industry (not to mention her idols whom she grew up listening to).

Loved seeing all 4 generations of k-pop being represented in one group, say what you want about SM but there's no denying that they have some serious talent under their banner.
But yeah, as a Taeyeon, Wendy & Karina bias as well as BOA existing, this was always going to be a lot to process. Really wasn't prepared for Hyo to just come through like a wrecking ball with C4 strapped to it and utterly destroy me...but here we are.
Having lived with the song since Saturday and listening to it a lot in that time it's only grown on me more & I really liked it first time round. Definitely want more from them, though I've heard the plan is to have a revolving line up so it'll be interesting to see what other groupings we're going to get.
I don't know with you guys, but this song always give me goosebumps down my spine EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I listen to it.

To the point about Winter, I think it's more specifically brought out here since you see a broad spectrum of stage comfort across everyone in this video. BoA for example looks so incredibly relaxed and truly a product of 22 years of being in the industry. And that's okay...Aespa, while being amazing talents beyond their experience, are also still babies compared to everyone else.
I actually agree with the Winter part. She is lacking in stage presence compared to Karina here but I think she would improve a lot since she's still new.
This stage is just 🔥 Everyone was given their own time to shine which was great. Great job to everyone! Well done. 👏👏👏

Yup, BoA's been slaying ever since she debuted in 2000 (4 months after Karina was born...). I think she stood out the most in this song although they were all amazing.
I want this unit to be like superm so bad! I want them to be permanent and release albums! They're truly all aces, the best rappers, VOCALISTS, dancers, and they have so much presence and charisma! Please SM do one thing right I'm begging you!

Winter always gets me with their EAspa's comeback stages, because she's such an eyecatcher with her vocals, and popping dance talent. But, here maybe she's in her monthly you know, or kinda shy because she's performing with her seniors. And, for Karina, she's already so comfortable performing with her seniors because even in her trainee days she's performing on stage with Kai, and appeared a lot on screen. Winter is under a special secret trainee program. she's not so exposed outside her group. Seemingly, she's shy here that's why she can't give her full potential around them. But, yeah, I hope GOT version of them will have a comeback someday in there: she'll be unstoppable, and so comfortable giving her best with her seniors.

Yeah people can comment on Wendy's dancing skills here and there and maybe concepts but she always brings it no matter the song. She has immense stage presence. 2nd only to Seulgi for me in RV. Not saying Irene, Joy, Yeri don't I just see how hard Wendy goes. But this song. This group of women going to take a long time to get over.
Interesting comments on Winter. I think when I see her here she's just giving off the same vibes I get from her in aespa's MVs and that's an aloof attitude like she's just above all of us. She's just brushing the dirt off her shoulder. I guess it shows more here when everyone else is just so intensely coming for us. TBH, when Winter takes the beginning of the second chorus, that's one of my favorite parts of the MV other than everything that Taeyeon is serving. All this to say, I love all of this and your reaction as well!

I'm not an aespa fan so I have no idea what are the members' stage presence are like, but i watched a kpop video analysing 4th gen stage charisma, and the TH-camr talked about winter similarly to how you did. After watching that video, I managed to watch Winter perform for the first time for this GOT THE BEAT video. Winter has beautiful visuals, but she makes no variety of expressions, it remains exactly the same. Idk about aespa's concept but this concept is particularly powerful and impactful, so her facial expressions don't make quite a sense, looking at hyoyeon and winter is quite obvious already. no hate to winter, I'm sure she's great, but I said this just based on this stage video. but to look at the brighter side, give her enough time, she'll improve!
I also noticed how Winter's facial expressions stays the same each stage. Though, aespa is focused much more on the choreography that I haven't seen impressive facial expressions from them on stages other than their gorgeous visuals, which i feel is what they lack in terms of including their stage presence with choreos.

But if you put her with other idols, for example the collab stage she did, her stage LACKED and I just wasn't feeling the performance at all. She never really struck to me as a charismatic idol, only a talented with potential idol

It's crazy that I never noticed that about Winter (& even Karina) expressions! I think it might have just been way at the back of my mind because they're still relatively new rookies, but when you mentioned it, I KNEW what you were saying! I also think it has something to do with gathering energy from an audience that held them back from gaining that ability with stage expressions, since they debuted during covid. Just my thought though. Gonna look forward to their growth as they get more experience on stage.

I feel like Winter was especially lacking in like facial expressions etc. here simply because she’s surrounded by all her seniors. in other stage performances she definitely shows some more of her facial expressions like her fierceness etc. but here all that wasn’t present at all which i completely understand tbh, i’d be scared shitless to mess up too
I love this collaboration with 4 different generations. They all did awesome together. Those vocals are on another level. Can you imagine if JYP did the same thing with Wonder Girls, Miss A, Twice and Itzy.
That would be cool, except that Wonder Girls and Miss A are no longer under JYP(although since they maintained good relationships with the company, I'm sure they could do it with some money thrown in there lol). You could still do one with TWICE, ITZY, NiziU and the new girl group.

First of all So Sorry I am very late I just watched this Video, second of all OH MY GOODNESS YES!! This whole Performance was ICONIC Just everything about it and same I don't really know Taeyeon, Hyoyeon, or BoA as much all I know is that they are very Iconic and they are Legends with Vocals, Rap, Dance, and so on but after watching this I will definitely check them out more! All I got to say is that Winter and Karina KILLED IT they are legit Monster Rookies like holy cow, and Wendy and Seulgi were just WOW Seulgi can step on me her whole outfit her dance and her Vocals oh my God, and Wendy was just WOW her lines were just Iconic this is why she is my favorite Vocalist in K - Pop because she did not sound like herself really at all and her Rap and outfit was just again WOW! These girls are just again PHENOMENAL I am so sad I didn't see this sooner they killed the entire thing I am DEFINITELY going to check out more Taeyeon, BoA, and Hyoyeon though I know that for sure! the only issue i had with the song is the lyrics, bc it's just sort of frustrating that the first song their given is telling another girl to back off their man lol

And yea I agreed with you on Winter’s facial expression. She’s my bias in aespa and before I thought her stage presence and facial expression is good but after watching GOT and esp the scene where they focused on her at the chorus, she looks idk very lacking sadly. Hopefully she can improve on that and not just think a cold expression is the only expression

I definitely agree about Winter! aespa as a unit work stunningly together and they will all continue to grow and become the absolute legends they clearly have shown they will be, but paired up with these icons and well established pros, her stage presence and performance quality being a little lacking is more noticeable. It’s not about talent. Taeyeon is pretty obviously the “weakest” dancer in the group but your eye goes to her every time you see her because she is such a captivating performer. Winter will get there!
Taeyeon is not really the weakest dancer here tho (pretty sure it's Wendy? or at least they are on the same level). She got into SM by winning a dance competition. Her vocals overshadow her dancing skills and people overlook it, but she is a good dancer, just not a dancing machine like Boa or Hyoyeon, and her movements are more relaxed than sharp. I heard too many people (before the stage was released) complaining and asking why Taeyeon is here because the unit focuses on dancing and intensity, and it's ????... like stop underestimating her, she has always been a good dancer

Maybe I should have said “weaker” but I swear it was not meant as disrespect (TY is probably my favorite in this whole line up!) I more so meant with TY is in a group with other members who are far superior dancers she never looks out of place or like she can’t keep up because her stage presence and command of a stage is top tier, whereas Winter is quite a solid all-rounder and definitely a great rookie dancer but is still working on her stage presence and commanding performance. That’s all!

I agree with you about Winter. And I dont find something about what you said that yiu are close on having two biases in Red Velvet. I have 3 myself hahaha. And find that people saying that Wendy is oozing with cinfidence throughout the entire performance but she said on bubble that she feels sick and she feels like she is going to throw up because of nervousness (probably because she is the less dancer in the lineup) and she said that she is more nervous than this stage then her debut stage. Yet her expressions and stage presence is over the top in this performance. She killed this one. All of them have!

I'm an idiot. I didn't realize this was a supergroup collabo kind of thing, all I was thinking was "Am I being a dumb westerner unable to properly differentiate nonwestern faces, or does this singer look, like CRAZILY similar to Karina from Aespa?"
Also, my knowledge of what's going on in the totality of kpop space is very incomplete, but, am I wrong in feeling like there's been somewhat of a movement to experimenting with weirder, more challenging, even polarizing soundscapes in the past year or so, especially maybe in the girl group space? Between this, Ghost by Dreamnote, Ring x Ring by Billllllllllllie, even something like Wings by Pixy, I feel like there's been some great, slightly off kilter stuff coming out lately.

I really wanted to ask if any one heard the nct sticker beat in this song(the 'incoming' in the beginning and the base in parts of the song) I'm not sure if that's what you call it but did they sample sticker.
Both songs are produced by Dem Jointz. 'Incoming' is his signature. He also produced Nct 127's Kick it and Punch, Exo's Obsession and Ya Ya Ya, Red Velvet's Don't U Wait No More and SHINee's Don't Call Me

yeah, i kinda agree tho, karina and winter are still not that ripe in terms of stage presence (attitude and facial expressions). unlike the remaining five, like hello BoA, Taeyeon, Hyoyeon, Seulgi, and Wendy owned their BITCHY ATTITUDE in this stage. there's plenty of time for aespa to grow, they're like 1 year old group but i'm sure with the level of achievements and attention they are receiving now, they'll give you that gaze you want.

Love the vocals and the rap but the instrumentals aren’t it for me . It’s too much . I love how the 1st to 3rd gen idols played well with eachother and just vibed well . 4th gen just felt kinda lacked in presence, it could be because of seniority tho

The reason why some people didn't like it is mostly due to the lyrics. It's a pick me-song, girls fighting about their man. Women tearing down each other ("silly girl", "my man is on another level") is quite the opposite of female empowerment and not what a lot of people hoped for with this colab...
Also, one of the guys who helped producing the song, said some pretty disgusting things about female idols in the past.
I don't see this as a "pick-me" song. I see it as them (Girls on Top) already having the guy and another woman is making moves on their boyfriend and they have to put her in her place.

A pick me song would be Avril's "Girlfriend" and Ariana's "Break up with your girlfriend." This song literally tells another girl to stop being delusional and back off. And given the common trope of girls in kdrama being passive in relationships, ie not persuing a guy or letting him go to another woman because it's taboo to chase a man, this song is female empowerment in Korean standards. The only bad part of the song is their overuse of level and maybe them hyping up their man.
"Back up off my man" is hardly an original or controversial topic.
It's not that deep.
@@lilyrose0116 It should be noted that one of the writers of the song is Tayla Parx, who has written for a whole variety of artists like Ariana Grande, Mariah Carey and so forth. She's also written for Red Velvet and BoA before, so she's not unfamiliar with K-Pop either. Not to take away from the lyrics, but it wasn't just only a man who wrote the song either. We don't know if she wrote the entire song by herself or if it's a joint thing.
this song made me realize 5 things:
1. K-pop is awesome.
2. I know very little about BoA and SNSD and I need to remedy it.
3. I fucking love Wendy and Seulgi.
4. I'm super proud of Karina and Winter for hanging like that with these stone-cold legends.

If you dont understand Korean just by listening to it and need a translation to understand the lyrics and you are even just a tiny bit feminist, please, i beg of you, DO NOT READ THE LYRICS and just enjoy these amazing women and their talent and an actually really well produced song!!
Unfortunately, I do understand the language and what they are singing just by listening to it and now I cringe everytime I listen to the song, the lyrics basically ruined the song for me, and whats most upseting is, I really want to support because I love all these women, and I actually did like the composition of the song :(
