One of THE best GCN videos ever. What a legend.
Definitely
One of the best "behind the scenes" GCN has made - easily in the top 3!!!
What a gentleman and what an artisan. Makes me want to go out there and shake his hand (post COVID). A custom Hincapie bike would be an honour to ride and truly something to treasure. I better start saving!💰
Si, you weren't too bad either 😉
And want a Columbus custom track frame from this man
Would be amazing to have an entire dedicated series showcasing the craftsmen, their workshops and so on. An impressive man for sure!
I strongly agree with this. We lost Pegoretti a while back, but there are still a lot of people making custim frames, show them to the world!
I hope they feature Yamaguchi in Colorado, USA sometime..
What a great idea! I would love to see a series like that.
this vid almost made me cry! These kind of people change the world to a better place NOT big corps with new tech
Me as well.
Comment of the day.
Agreed buddy. Totally
I too teared up bit.
Well said, for us bike lovers this man is a legend
The expressions on Si's face looks like that of a kid in a candy store. I think I had similar expressions on my face while watching. Lucky Si.
Just wow, what a fantastic film. Agustín is a true craftsman, and there are less of those as time goes by. It's an honour to get a view into his workshop and see how he works.
I recommend that you watch the documentary about the master frame builder of the Philippines, Ave Maldea.
His adjustable frame holder is a definite HACK!
Most of his shop is full of hacks. So cool.
I was thinking that sjjakskjaja
You've found a bike Master. I say he deserves a 2-hr long major documentary.
Brought actual tears to my eyes. Steel is real. Still have all my steel bikes from 40 years of riding. Still ride all of them.
This video was a gem. Agustin Hincapie is not only a great bike builder, but a beautiful man. Great job Si and GCN.
More of these video series required, the craftsmanship is outstanding. It's an honour and pleasure to see and hear from these master craftsman.
Incredible.what a gentleman.knight him ,induce him into the hall of fame ,just do something to let him know we appreciate him for what's he's done .
induce him into the hall of "frame"
i´ll see myself out
What a gentleman, a true artist. I love the fact he tidied up for his guest.
That's the latin way. Probably had dinner for him too.
Yeah in Latin America they're very hospitable to foreigners. Especially in Mexico. Been there many times and I have always been well received by strangers
Possibly the most interesting video on GCN.A lovely engaging story. For those complaining about no subtitles, you need to turn on subtitles in the video settings.
The story of how Augustin built a frame for his grand child stuck with me - deeply moved me. This is the most amazing document about craftsmanship. This is true genius, true beauty. love it
First GCN video I feel compelled to comment on. The passion of AH is fantastic.
So when he (Hincape) mentioned Reynolds 753 it was because he was certified by Reynolds to build with it. Reynolds would only allow builders who submitted a frame built with it to them that passed their test to use it. Back then there was not a lot of certified 753 builders so it was a mark of craftsmanship and pride. That’s why Hincape brought it up not because Si and Reynolds are from England. That aside really enjoyed the piece. Thanks
Roger Bloom Yes Sir, Agustin is certified by Reynolds. For more info you can e.mail us: agustinhincapiebikes@gmail.com
My grandfather who was a custm frame builder upto the 80s didnt think much of the lighter Reynolds tubing and most riders favoured 531 or a mix of 531 and 653 from memory. Issues with strength and the rod alloy. I cant recall if he used 753 he may of.. i used to pick up tube and lugs from brum.
glenn oc when my dad moved to brum he brought an expensive frame from Craig’s bike shop in brum they had come as seconds out of a builders as they had head tube issues. The old man managed to track down lugs etc in brum and got it all braised back together and put many thousands of miles on that bike including several fund raising rides from brum to Southampton and brum to Bristol. On in brum could you walk in places and get stuff like that. There’s still abit now but no where like it was.
This content is so refreshing! I’m from Colombia and is a true honor to know more about the process behind the Agustin’s bikes. I had the chance to see some of their bikes on the road, and they are simply amazing. Thanks GCN
Best GCN vid ever, and that's saying something. That was amazing.
Had a stupid grin on my face the whole time. What a brilliant video and Agustin Hincapié is such a true craftsman and lovely personality. Have watched the video 3 times already and loved the thoughtfulness of the grandkids bike, as Si also noted. My dad always made his own tools, could turn his hand at anything, brought a tear to my eye. Thanks Si and GCN.
Incredible, felt like a high budget short documentary. Would love to see more stuff like this although i know its probably hard to find many other people as unique as Agustin
I recommend that you watch the documentary of the master builder of the Philippines and his name is Ave Maldea.
Easily one of the best GCN pieces of recent times, if not of all time! An absolute joy to watch, not least because of Simon's genuine interest. His interest and involvement really came through in his expressions and engagement!
A masterpiece of short documentary. Best you ever made! Seen it so many times now… I don’t know sitting here working from distance these days… it touches something in me.
This is why Si is by far the best GCN host. The smile on his face the whole video is HUGE, just goes to show his passion and pure love for the sport and the craftsmanship that comes along with it. One of the best videos GCN has ever done, and Si does an incredible job.
One of the best videos GCN has done. An absolute joy to watch.
This is one of the best videos you guys have done. So interesting, informative and inspiring.
This is so cool, as a Colombian, this is what I would like to see on the media, a dedicated and talented craftsman from my homeland. Cheers, and thank you!!!
This is one of the best GCN videos ever made.
Just a little bit into it I realized I was listening to him in Spanish, it's been over 20 years since I worked in a bike factory where I spoke and listened (mostly) in Spanish and this brought back such good memories. Love this man.
Thanks a lot guys, these people make me fell as proud as it gets about sharing the colombian identity and blood, as Egan, and Nairo, and Rigo, and Cochise, and Santiago and many others... Thank you.
I'm from Colombia and this is really amazing.
His legacy must be preserved and carried on. UN, Columbian government and GCN must collaborate. In the world of mass produced bicycles, his workmanship and creations are DIAMONDS!
How can he be reached? Can't seem to get him on Google search.
Blue Moon his “brand” here in Colombia is Tino. Apparently there is a long waiting list to meet up with him and build a custom bike
Blue Moon if you are interested in a bike I can send you his personal phone number.
You can find him on Instagram and facebook @agustinhincapiebikes.
Here is his e-mail address agustinhincapiebikes@gmail.com
That frame stand is wild, so cool. It's also cool to see he's using autocad and coming up with such innovative techniques for an otherwise old process.
Wow this is definitely one of the best GCN videos. Truly amazing to see the skill, craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail. What a great gentleman.
Simon, thank you so much for that precious thing of dignity, proudness, generous situation, outstanding craftsmanship and so on. Amazing.
And nice as well mentioned Georg and Bobby.
You found another gem down the road.
Wow. Craftsman at it's best. To all the younger generation, as an artisan I will encourage you to learn from people like this. They have years of experience and they are self taught which is knowledge that will not be taught to you at and school, college or university. How I wish to spend a week with this huy.
This Builder is very humble, the way he talk, his gestures. everything!
Utterly mesmerising. Love to watch him build a whole frame 👍
Fecitaciones mi GRAN AMIGO TINO q gusto verte y veo q poco as combiado te mando un abrazo
So fantastic Si. Thank you for giving us a peak into that wonderful brain and world of frame architecture and cycling history. More than a gentleman, a pioneer and a mentor. Numerous cheers for Agustin Hincapie. So amazing. Raises the hairs on the back of the neck. He looked up every word in a translation dictionary to learn his craft.
Dear GCN, please also feature Mr. Avelino Maldea of the Philippines. "Ave Maldea". Thank you.
This is one of my favorite videos from GCN. It is really cool to see a little bit of how he builds his bikes and especially how he taught himself how to weld. That is amazing!
Awww, that was lovely, I could have watched an hour long episode on that man and his workshop easily. Thanks GCN.
This gentleman is amazing. His family is lucky to have him.
Art in movement, Hector is a great artist, thanks for have a time whit him and show your talent, a hug to Colombia
Closes other windows, sits forward, drops jaw, eyes wide and witness a master. Beautiful, rare and... thanks GCN!
Wow! Probably one of the best GCN videos ever. What an inspirational man... If my numbers ever come up, I will have steel lugged frame from him with steel forks.... Amazing coincidence George Hincapie turned up at the same time....
Been watching GCN for years and this is one of my favourite videos ever, love the frame building stuff from true masters/pioneers/artists. This made my quarantined weekend GCN 🌈💛
Amazing watching a true craftsman (and, gentleman) at work.
Gem of a piece, great to see Simon in full fanboy mode with a real artisan and fantastic that George (No Relation) was able to make a cameo. How lucky is Columbia to have two such wonderful ambassadors and GCN viewers to meet a gentleman with the skills to design and build high quality metal frames and components in his own workshop.
WOW.....WOW!!!! What a humbling honor to see the Maestro in his workshop, with family too! WOW!
It was a real honour to spend some time with him and be shown some of his great works
This man is a legend and what makes it more interesting is that he's doing it to provide for his family, now that's value!!
Augustin is just a master of the craft! Wow!!! Just beautiful to see! This has to be my favorite GCN episode!
You should've come to Bogotá. Here we have two master builders: Duarte and Moreno. The latter one is currently specializing in carbon manufacturing, he does it all by himself, in the same inventive way. Nice vid!!
Fantastic video! Definitely one of the best yet. Agustin is such a genuine personality and Simon's enthusiasm for being there and learning about his craft really shines through. Thanks for this one, could have been an hour long documentary in my mind.
I absolutely love how happy he is to show and share his work. After all those years building bikes, he still has passion!
This was the best GCN vid yet. What an artisan. More like this please. GREAT WORK!
Wow! Fantastic video and what an incredible person!
PS: It makes me really happy when you come to South America and show things like this to the world.
Maestros artesanos de bicicletas, con el conocimiento de Don Agustín son muy pocos los q quedan!! Cada bicicleta hecha por el, es una obra de arte.
What a wonderfully creative guy! This level of craftsmanship is legendary and will be sorely missed in the years ahead. Thanks for doing this and for recognizing genius.
Fantastic film, what a master, loved every minute of him explaining his process, a really nice man too. Bizarre about George Hincapie turning up at the end as well! 😂😂😂👍
...and Bobby Julich too!
The last great artisan. Thank you GCN for not trying to translate/botch him with hard subs.
Amazing video. Great piece.... As Colombian and after seeing this videos covering the cycling in Colombia and all what is around cycling, I feel so grateful with all the cyclists from my country like this last generation (Nairo Rigo Egan Atapuma etc..) of fighters, our champions that have brought to the world another face of Colombia. And also I am grateful with all the cycling fans and community like GCN to show all of it, like this hidden Master. Thanks GCN
I wonder what Jon Cannings thought about missing out on doing this video. Looks like the sort of video he'd have loved doing.
This guy is amazing. Love the way he finds a solution to every problem that would stop me. The world needs more people like Augustin. Proper genius!
There needs to be an extended version of this
This was bloody brilliant.
that was awesome! George Hincapie's improv'd cameo was a nice touch!
this is one of the most beautiful videos GCN has ever made, thanks so much. Mil gracias por introducirnos a Agustin, que maravilla.
WOW! Just WOW!
This is great, love this type of content. It proves you can still make things if you really want to.
One of your best ones yet. Great job GCN.
This is beyond brilliant. I love seeing how much skill and attention detail a craftsmen like that has. It would be a pleasure and honor to own something me made.
I own one of his bikes, great geometry great balance(I am from Medellin too and I learned english in the states almost 45 years ago), I have been riding it every day for 25 years, I feel it will last for ever. we became good friends nearly 30 years ago when I popped up in his shop to have a bike custom made , although I don´t own the original one (my niece does), The one I own today will take me to the end of my days.I am 68 years old. he is 67, great guy, great mechanic, very resourceful.he has repaired the most diverse mechanical gadgets.
@GCN probably one of the best videos you've produced. It was cool to see Si so emotional, I think we all felt the same way. Great job. Muchas gracias compadre
Smiled right through that one... Pure delight...
What a humble gentleman, with such a plethora of amazing skills. Caballero, usted es tremendo!!
Genius bike builder. These are sre the kind of videos you should make. The joy in your face as he showed you round was fantastic to see. 😊
COLOMBIA IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!
Very true !!!!!
Hincapie is a combination of an artist, a craftsman and an innovator which makes him a grand master!
This makes me so proud to be from Medellin. Wow, a super video. Agustín, what a legend.
Watching this, I left here, and went there.
A totally emotionally and mentally immersive experience.
Thanks Si and thanks GCN.
This one needs more than just a thumbs up! What a craftsman and gentleman!
What a great video!
The man is so exited and proud about his work. The way he talks with passion and the fun he appears to have doing so. He is an absolute legend.
One of the best videos from GCN, Augustin is a true artisan; self thought engineer, welder, painter......................... in these days who has the pasión and patience to do that. Very few to none I can say.
Very few at any time.
If GCN made a full time document about this gentleman i would pay to have it. I also live Si's face during this interview. I've almost saw myself in my grandather's workshop. I thik i will watch this video again, and again.
Legend! Nothing beats a master at hes craft with the passion for it as well just makes me smile. Agustin you just gave me more inspiration to keep on riding.
Came back to watch this again. A true master craftsman.👏👏👏👏
Felt like an honour just watching this,
I love this man's ingenuity and facial expressions.
GCN, More of this please. Maybe the best piece I've ever seen from you. And as an engineer, my respect for this man and his craft cannot be overstated. We cannot let such treasure vanish from this world. Skill, craftsmanship, passion. Please tell me he has an apprentice.
This is marvelous - one mans passion and persistence. We’re so oversupplied with stories about big countries and the big brands.
This man is a proper legend. To be able to teach yourself all of that. Hat off to him
One of my favourite vids of the lockdown. Top work all round GCN. Thanks
Sometimes you have to work hard to make a 13 minute video. Not this time. That was spectacular. A craftsmen explaining his craft to someone who really understands (and uses) the works of art that he produces. It was such a pleasure to watch.
Definitive craftsman...period. so inspiring
This was a great watch. You can see the pride and passion Mr Hincapié has for making bikes. I hope the big manufacturers watch this, they could learn a thing or two from visiting his workshop.
I love seeing craftsmen who are really proud of the work They do.
Awsome video! Ive never seen so much love for cycling in a work shop
What an absolute thrill to meet this master craftsman
What an absolutely brilliant video! Such a joy to see Mr. Hincapie share his knowledge and passion with Si. Thank you Si and GCN!
Thank you for interview such a craftsman. Wonderful work, and a true man of cycling culture
