I don't own South Park or any of the clips or images used. All copyright belongs to the respective owners, I merely claim Fair Use for the purpose of criticism.
Stan is literally the perfect representation that a nine/ten-year-old can be more open-minded and smart about things in the world around him than any adult in the show.
Stan is my favorite character it's because his personality it's part of my personality.
GREAT 😇😇😇 KITTY MONK SOUTHPARK 😺😺😺 STAN MARSH CYNICAL ESSAY VIDEO.
@itz_ic21gaming97 mine to but I might be bias as an equally cynical fellow and an alcoholic, remember that was his solution at the end of the Matrix episode
The things that really stand out about him are his pragmatism and straightforwardness. It makes his character more likable and appreciated.
@@itz_ic21gaming97I'd argue he's the most sane character IN the Show!!! I hate his family just as much he does!!!
Casa bonita is real but country kitchen buffet isn't despite the fact that casa bonita sounds waaay more fictional.
Apparently the irl Casa Bonita is owned by the South Park creators
Source: I heard it on a youtube video
@@metal_pipe9764it’s true but no one can get reservations, and it’s hella expensive and in a relatively unsafe area so that’s always fun.
I swear there was a country kitchen buffet near my house
32:52 To be fair, he said, "You need to stop before MORE people get hurt." That means he's trying to prevent more deaths while acknowledging the dead hostage.
I've always felt Stan's cynicism came from how much more grounded he is compared to the others.
Playing in the street in a suburban area the streets have a speed limit of 15 and as one of the older kids i always yelled when we needed to get out of the road simply by yelling "CAR!" like they do in The Fracture But Whole
On the subject of Street Hockey.
1) only play on dead end roads or cul-de-sacs.
2) always have someone on car watch duty
3) their is no competition, if a car is coming you get out of the road.
I used to play it with my cousins when we visited the grandparents.
4) the ideal time to play is between 7-8 or 4-5 because it’s when the fewest people are are driving home if you are in a 9-5 area
Where I live we played on only one side, and cars would just go around. It helped that most people had a driveway in their backyard and would use the backstreets
Wait, cul-de-sacs? Thats catalan right?
@@Davix40no91 according to my search results it’s French
Oh. Yeah, it makes sense, both languages are really similar, i tbh, i just got exited cause i thought it was catalan.
This is why Stan is my favorite character of South park just like Huey from The Boondocks.
Same.
Not exactly though it would have been interesting to see a crossover of South Park and The Boondocks.
@@seeleunit2000That would be nice.
When we played street hockey, when a car came, whoever saw it would just call out "car!" and everybody would clear out of the way as quickly as possible, set back up, and go back to the game once it's clear. It was a matter of trust that the person who calls out aren't pranksters calling wolf or sick fucks who are trying to get people run over
Grandpa giving the speech in that scene is a stereotype and so is Randy. The issue is complex like Randy said because, well yeah, the seniors accomplished a lot of the stuff we now have.
"A real learning experience for the Marsh family"
Yet they forgot about Shelley once again.
Yes, street hockey is a thing, We usually just moved the goals if we saw someone coming. It would not have been good in the backyard since the puck or ball would not move much in the grass and swinging hockey sticks over and over to get it going would have damaged the lawn
There was also street baseball like how'd you see in Hey Arnold. No, you were not literally playing in the street if you had a backyard. Usually when we played baseball, whoever was umpire was looking one way and warning everyone for cars, and the pitcher was the one looking for cars the other way.
I figure in south park they were just doing it for the episode, but sometimes there's just more space in the road then their actual backyard, like in a cul de sac (you see this in Rocket Power).
I played all kinds of sports in the streets when I was a kid, and was happy to see it in cartoons too.
Like ice hockey, street hockey is fun because of the hard surface. The puck/ball doesn't move as well on grass, so most yards wouldn't work ^^; It was a good way to have that hockey experience off season as a kid.
Always cynical, you say?
I can hardly billy-ve it.
I'll see myself out.
That made me smile with a small giggle.
You've committed a crime against humor. Now you're on _the pun._

You deserve a *pun*-ishment for that joke
We started reading the giver in my 6th grade readling class we never got to finish it, ive spent the past 20 years trying to remember the title and this is how it im finally reminded!? Thank you kitty monk i am forever in your debt
I grew up on a narrow road that people used to cut through town. None of us got hit, but we played towards the middle of the street and we would call out "Car!"
"what if there were cars?" said by someone who never experienced the one kid noticing and starting the avalanche of shouting "Car!" "Car!" "Car!" until you all just sort of shuffled to the side and let some angry parent drive by
Street hockey is 100% a thing. If there is a car you simply call "CAR" and everyone moves to the side of the road, the goalies bringing the nets with them. Once the car passes you move back out and resume the game.
I’m pretty sure it’s a Wayne’s world reference. Honestly I’ve watched a few of these videos and this girl misses, or at least doesn’t mention, like 99% of the movie references. Which is fine, she’s obviously very young
How is that even a debate when Rocket Power exists?
Street hockey is definitely a small town thing, very common in Ontario
Not everyone has a backyard, or a backyard that is safe to play in, though. There's nothing wrong with playing in the streets (of a neighborhood). Always be on the look out for cars or have an adult watching, be ready to get out of the way in case there's movement from cars coming or going, etc. Things that would be common sense.
Like many things, it can come down to if you're willing and able to teach your kids how to be safe 'cause at some point they're gonna be in the street. All it takes is a ball to bounce away from the lawn.
20:30 the Always Look on the Bright Side of Life song from Life of Brian is a super popular song for Baby Boomer funerals
The straight man character is so underrated in these shows and stans cynicism arc like Huey in the boondocks is subtle but also powerful when you realise in a meta sense that they’re realising the absurdity of their world can really drive them toward their more cynical dispositions.
It’s kind of like Homer enemy but just subtle and throughout the show.
I can relate to Stan in so many ways even more then Kyle (even though it's ironic how Kyle is also my name too) but I go by KyDogg as well
The suburbs have a 5 mile an hour limit typically
stan being the voice of reason in every situation has got to be pretty draining to him. he's basically the smartest person in town who isn't also insane. of course he is gonna be cynical.
Grey dawn is and allways has been one of favorite episodes of SP. The edlers just crack me up especialy Stan's grandpa. That guy is just to funny. Ty for posting l enjoy your watching the content you have on your channel. Please keep putting more out as much as you can. 👍✌💖
I don’t think I’ve left a comment before, long time watcher. I just wanted to say that I really enjoy your videos, the run downs and you really summed this up very well and it’s definitely a topic I don’t think gets discussed much in discussions in the series. ❤
fyi :) - for street hockey, usually since there's 2 teams facing opposite ways, if a car comes, someone will see it/call it out n everyone just moves
idk where u live but around me there's also not that much street traffic in suburbs unless its like 8 am or 5-6 pm (people going to/from work)
There's a County kitchen in NM (spelled Kountry kitchen) that I ate at for years, so through the whole episode I just assumed they were using a random Mexican restaurant as a plot device
Street hockey is absolutely a thing LMAO! whenever a car was driving by we'd yell that theres a car coming
why not the backyard? bc you cant play it on grass, you need good ol concrete
That thing about people spitting on the sidewalk reminds me of the concrete pathways at my school because they are covered in black rotten gum
Completely off-topic, but I used to live near an old country buffet, and it was its own experience in a good way, going to old country buffet was the same level of excitement but going to Bagans and having eaten at both old country and golden corral. It was better than golden corral, but it died just as fast.
Honestly, as someone who works at a service station and has to deal with elderly drivers on a daily basis, I do get the arguments behind wanting to place restrictions on senior drivers. Especially if they're not very mobile outside of the car, I'E they can't walk unassisted without a cane or a walker or can't perform basic maintenance on their vehicle (checking tire pressure and oil and water levels), or know what type of fuel goes into their car (I've had widowed ladies tell me that their husbands used to always fuel the cars so they never learned which type poweres the cars).
Many of my regular customers are very nice, but they should admit that they need assistance and probably shouldn'r be driving if they need to get a wheelie walker out of the back seat to come inside the shop to pay for fuel. So I certainly agree that there should be a practical test that is issued to drivers over 70 every 2-3 years to assess that they are still able to drive safely or with assistance (i.e someone in the car with them to guide them) or something.
Time to watch some hey Arnold or Rocket Power. Inner city or high dense cities don’t have yards always. So street hockey is common. I used to do bike hockey in my youth. Oh. The number of broken arms and scabbed knees 19:12
Yeah I had to take care of an older family member that would forget how old he was and a horrible driver. He couldn't drive without at least a few people honking for him to get back inside his own lane and that stop signs are the law not a suggestion.
41:18 minutes of south park content! Whoooop
Worst part of going to a buffet is that one person(usually a burlesque kid) that eats at the buffet line!! I've seen it too!! It's happened!! But it's not 100% all the time or everyone… might be about 10 to 20 percent… so while it "happens" don't mean it's happening a lot of the time, but a bit maybe!!
Of course street hockey was a thing. You just yell "car" and everyone gets out of the way.
We rendezvous with Rochambeau
Consolidate their gifts we can end this war at Yorktown, cut them off at sea, but for this to succeed, there is someone else we need
I know (Hamilton!)
I love your Broadway references kitty❤
I really hope what I had to go through taking care of both my elderly parents, starting before I graduated high school, will ensure I know when to ask for help, but more specifically when I am asking for too much from one person. I can't say I'll care for not being able to care for myself, but I'll go down fighting and won't take anyone with me.
I was in elementary school when South Park came out. Stan was my contemporary age role model. This is dense in feels for me lol
Life of Brian is not only the best Monty Python movie, but one of the greatest movies ever made
Stan was always the one to point out all the manipulation tactics of the adults/groups/cults etc around them, especially early on in the show. His critical thinking skills when it comes to that kind of stuff is very high. He's definitely always been very cynical, which makes sense given what he has to deal with on the daily in that town lol. I think too even before the 'you're getting older' episode, he was very prone to melancholy too (for example: raisin's). I think that's what makes the 'you're getting older' episode hit even harder- it's not out of character for him at all. I know some people kind of see it as a turning point for his character, but it was really just exaggerating/expanding on the traits he already had.
18:00 fuck yeah street hockeys real. Id know, I'm a Canadian, Santa's down the road in his igloo.
my boyfriend goes to school in a place called south park and every time i see his snapchat map i giggle
Oh no Kitty, Street Hockey has been a thing since the 1990’s if not before then.
Brazil's traffic department requires all citizens over 60 to renew their license every 3 years to ensure that the person is still able to drive...
We played street football and basketball where i grew up. Not that many cars in general, and you just kinda say car when you see one. Only one person was actually dangerous, and she didn't go through where we played. We always joked that her breaks didn't work so she'd go faster
As a Canadian, I always assumed Country Kitchen Buffet was real and that it was like a golden corral type deal
I mean I still blame randy and shraon for stan being the way he is with Wendy and even everyone ealse in the resonate eps thanks to there fighting and also randy bad influence on stan that cost him to be more bitter and cynical probably after your getting old and assbugers two parter and heck there's a vidoe by Johnny about Wendy that goes over really great points and evidence that Wendy is putting more work in the realistionship than stan due to randy himself
Well, yeah. Stan's parents are flipping morons and can't parent to save their butts.
@seeleunit2000 heh yey I wonder why no one actually discussed about stans parents being one of the main source to why stan started to get bitter after the two parter and even getting more hyperycrite as well
For me is nothing new. Growing up in a deranged bulgarian family. Stan is my favorite character it's because it gives me a bitter sweetness that helped me to cope with eastern european bullsh*t.
@seeleunit2000 and heck it's even possible based on my theroy that stan started to neglect Wendy due to stan not wanting to end up like randy and Sharon and even at the same time not wanting to lose her due to his attachment to her but at the same time wishing for Wendy to save herself from becoming Sharon by distance herself from him
@@seeleunit2000Yes they are. Besides it kind helped me to cope with own balkan trainwreck for a family. That's why Stan is my favorite character.
When you started talking about your project reading a book I was reminded of two projects involving my least favorite book, one because the whole class had to read it, the second was a group assignment. We could pick from a list, I said "anything but that one because I've read it before and i-"
"WE'LL TAKE THIS ONE!"
"Now the project will be easy, he already knows it"
"...I hate that book. You're all on your own."
It was the giver
I can attest that I have in fact been to an Old Country Buffet in upstate NY, and I will say I always found it to be very good. It was near a relatives house and we would often go there when visiting them. Happy childhood memories
Okay cool
STAN!!!!
DAMN IT BILLY!
Considering the boys progressed to fourth grade Marvin would actually be 104
Billy
Randy already acknowledged that 1 person got hurt. He said more people,
32:43
For street hockey or in my case street basketball you rely on someone to shout car then you pause the game
You can't play Street Hockey anywhere other than the street
Lol, Stan is amazing.
I'm a bit of a cynical person myself. So therefore, I can relate to Stan.
Me too, especially after my mother passed away. you’re getting old actually aired a year before she passed.
Me too especially growing up in a balkan trainwreck for a family and also growing up in Bulgaria too.
@@itz_ic21gaming97 oh wow, that’s crazy
@@123theprodigy5Sorry for the loss I lost my mother when I 14 and things went from bad to worse. Stan Marsh and Huey Freeman reminded me of how barbaric the world can be.
@@itz_ic21gaming97 me too
Country Kitchen Buffet may not exist, but where I grew up had a Country Cupboard Buffet that is the same as this episode.
Its messed up, ya go the there to eat, look in the corner, and see some old guy holding his colostomy bag, while he trying to hit it from behind with his wife.
Street hockey is very much a thing you gotta be careful once you leave main streets
Im surprised how very little episodes you talked about. Yet, Stan has always been the main character ever since day 1. So, now you should do a Stan and Wendy video. Hos cynicism towards his family could be one reason why he's in love with Wendy
Stan is a more affable version of Holden Caufield
Yeah besides I just started to read the book and it gave me a bitter sweetness. Besides the first chapters reminded me of Stan Marsh and Huey Freeman from The Boondocks.
Congratulations on 100k subscribers! Kitty monk has always had really great analysis videos. Ive been watching since the 1st disenchantment oona character breakdown, and was very excited to see her branch out to other shows. Here's to another good one🎉
20:51 Buddy’s Death from Christine, I wasn’t expecting that song to play when I watched the episode.
As someone who's not only suburban but also canadian, I can say that yes Street Hockey has always been a thing. And as for cars you don't play on the main roads, you play on back roads in the residential part of towns where there aren't going to be that many drivers and when one does come by they slow down you move the nets and they pass by
On the seniors driving thing, personally I watched as my grandfathers driving got worse and worse until I got a license and started keeping his car from him (he does not have a car anymore). And he is at the age where you need to get your license renewed each year, one time didn’t renew it in time and he had to take the drivers test FOUR TIMES until he passed and at that point he only passed because he had made enough mistakes to know what to do right. At a certain point you do have to just cut them off cause too many of them don’t want to admit that their driving has become terrible and that’s so insanely dangerous for themselves and others. Literally the only thing that got my grandfather off the road was his car broke down and his sons all agreed to not let him fix it or get another one
And on top of this, a few years ago in my town a 4th grader was hit and unalived by an old woman who ran a red light in a school zone just as school had gotten out. Not to mention the fact that over 60% of the crashes I see in my town involve someone over the age of 70
Dr. Mrs. The MONARCH??? …
…. Oh there you are kitty monk
i grew up in Canada street hockey happens on low traffic streets and we yell car to stop the game and clear the road the people in the neighborhoods where used to this so they drove slow although that was the 90's im not sure how it is now adays i don't see to much street hockey but i see people at the park rinks all the time
I remember old country buffet, and funnily enough there was an old country buffet that I used to go to with family, at least up until it closed in 2010. I don't think those exist anymore?
Okay kitty monk, he's the voice of reason being cynical is the least problem
As someone who dealt with impossibily difficult seniors, it's hard to not treat them like children, when they're acting like children, whilst they also treating everyone around them like children.
you could only do hockey in the back yard if you have a *flat* surface to play it on, it's why it's mostly played on ice or streets, too hard to play in *grass*
I remember there was a hometown buffet back in the 90’s to the early 2000s. My grandparents went all the time.
I didn't expect a winx club reference.
You should make a vídeo about stan x Wendy relationship.
I miss old country buffet we used to have one here in my town
Are you telling me that people don't get retested every time they renew their license in the US? in my country it is every time, every time you have to take the psychomotor test to ensure you have enough physical capabilities to react while driving, and also the vision test to ensure you can see at night and regain vision quickly if you get flash in the eyes by an irresponsible driver, those are basic tests that should always be done, I would argue it should be even less time between test than what it is in my country, it should be yearly.
and pretty much Why I'm Cynical around Idiots and Dumb kids and Why they should stay far far away from I'm disabled too I'm way smarter then all of the disabled kids as well
EXCELLENT WORK. KITTY MONK 🐱🐱🐱
i get It but bro talk with your parents and teachers if that's entire reason you're cynical
country kitchen and country buffet clear golden corral
18:49 no that's also in transformers animated. Also backyards can't work on hokey
Apparently Casa Bonita is an actual thing.
Even my mom thinks their license should be provoked. Me personally they should probably start having someone drive them to places once they get older. It’s not so much treating them like a child as it’s literally helping to prevent people from getting possibly injured or killed more.
Yeah, in general people every 10 or so years should have to prove they can drive safely, people act like give way lines are a suggestion, you can do everything right but because a bad driver doesn’t you can end up dead
23:30 I mean .... those old people killed 14 people and millions of dollars of damage so like......
26:45 the driving was bad enough to horrify _Cartman_...
I knew of Street Hockey from Rocket Power, or did the South Park episode predate that series?
Lookin good in that Dr. Mrs. The Monarch cosplay!
I think that people of all ages should be required to take an annual driving test in order to maintain their license
34:27 I can agree oh my primus I hope never return
Don't be bad mouthing Golden Corall Kitty.
i agree with stan, being able to drive while old is good but i don't want to hit that kid crossing the road just because i can't see two feet ahead
Man, even though I love Cartman, I could relate with stan. i myself can sometimes be cynical. I see everything as shit sometimes, Also I hate change. i’m not as happy as I was when I was younger. I’m having a midlife crisis.
Are we ever gonna get the video of your beef with todd from Bojack horseman?
I live in the UK and we would play football (soccer) in the street but we live in a cul de sac
I love your videos Billy!
22:10 not to sound brash, but would you rather live in a roach infested apartment?
25:17 as if dining halls weren't already lousy enough they really saved the bad food to serve when the old people came in once a week?! That's awful 😢 like really awful 😞 I hope the old people weren't aware of the change in quality, that's so insulting.
oh hey i read the giver for middle school too :D it was cool!
Wait, you havent seen Red Dawn (1984)?? I strongly recommend it. You got some '80s homework. The 2012 remake was "meh" to me
Before Uber etc there were taxi cabs and buses Kitty.
