I stood in front of Steve and Ronnie in Greenville That night. This ripped my head off with grief. I play guitar. Steve played a black custom just like my 73 that night with a 1000 cracks in the finish. Omg he was good that night. I was left spellbound.. I miss those boys. Pure musicians..

I was 2 years old when "Pronounced" came out in 1973. Growing up in the '80s, Skynyrd was on the radio a ton here in Central Ohio thanks to QFM 96 (still rockin'). All I heard were the staple songs that I loved . Ended up buying everything ! My son is US Navy, transfered Jacksonville early this year. My adopted hometown.
Love this video. Mr & Mrs Rossington and of course the VanZants is priceless ! So much more, thanks for sharing

And still to this day, the moment I hear your songs, I can’t help but stand, clap and move. The losses were horrific and painful, still, but your music and the memories will never die. God bless you all & those in Heaven looking down. You may be gone, but you’re never forgotten. I pray that someday I will have my dream come true of taking my family, to share the music that means so much to me with my kids, and see you live for the first time ever! God Bless you all. Much love, Shelbie =) ❤️💙😘

Very few ppl on this earth have as much expierence playing guitar as Gary Rossington. Think about it, the guy is like 72-73 yrs old now and he has been playing the guitar since he was like 7-8 years old. That is wow alot of expierence! Its no wonder the guitars in Skynrd always sounded so great. Honestly you would be hard pressed anywhere to find better A better group of muscians.

I met the band back stage and in the van we all hung out with my friend, they were so nice and down to earth, just like hanging out with a nice family, so sweet they are, sweet gentlemen. So talented, I tried to tone down my compliments, anyway was fun back in the day. I'll never forget meeting the band. We had green colored back stage passes in Detroit and people in the crowd, were like, "nice fake back stage pass, it was kinda of funny, Always have loved Lynyrd Skynyd since i was 18, their music is beautiful. thank you for everything you great band,.

I named my only child after Ronnie Van Zant's father. When I was just a kid myself, a lifelong lover and fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd, I watched a documentary and seeing the pain in Ronnie's dad's eyes and just feeling how much he loved and missed his son impacted me greatly, for I grieved the loss of such greatness, too. So in honor of Ronnie and Lynyrd Skynyrd and of Lacy - the man that planted the seeds of what would eventually become my favorite band of all time that I've loved and adored literally since birth because my mom was their number one fan- I named my daughter after Ronnie's father. May they rest in peace and may those that remain find some measure of comfort and may God forever bless Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Yeah, don't get that 5 second segment about Ed. Van Zant treated Ed like garbage for a large part of his short tenure with the band, even with all his monumental achievements in writing and playing. Then again Ed was a nice, quiet guy from Glendale, CA....had zero in common with the southern boys.

@@Arturo-sm1tb I knew Ed and got to record two song demos for him and talked to him over the years....he had immense respect for Ronnie and understood that Ronnie was a complicated individual in many ways. I think Ed could also separate the sober Ronnie from the drug-addled Ronnie...which is the Ronnie Ed had issues with and eventually caused Ed to leave the band. Ed actually liked the Southern vibe....it was the drug vibe that didn't jive with him. After all...Ed could've chosen to live anywhere in the country or go back to CA...but he chose to live in Nashville didn't he ?

What's weird is, according to Ed, he and Ronnie were good close friends when NOT on the road. When on the road, drunk Ronnie became a bully to everyone, but particularly to Ed and I think (and I'm guessing here based on what he'd said) when it came in-fighting between all the hometown boys, Ronnie took a "Ed, YOU shut your mouth" approach to King, making him feel like he really didn't belong. And surprise surprise, he packed up and left the tour.

@@bloozedaddy Well, you do 4 years in Lynyrd friggin' Skynyrd and play on their first 3 albums, you're a "Southern Rock" musician forever, like it or not. Might as well move to Nashville and embrace it lol

The one question that I wish anyone would ask , or would HAVE asked of any of the then surviving members/crew was, what went through their mind their very first time flying again after the crash. Myself I probably would have never ever flown again, or if so someone would have to tranq dart me and haul me on the plane. No way in hell. - L
