Hi Dale, I'm Thoriq from Indonesia. It was fun seeing your video traveling in some places in Indonesia. I like it. What interest me most is you mostly record it in first person point of view. It feels like I'm there, join your trip. Next time you come to Indonsia, you should visit other cities too, such as, Padang, Bandung, Yogyakarta and others. It got so many amazing views too. Anyway, keep up the good work, mate!
21:20 the house you visited was abandoned by residents due to strong winds there until part of the building was damaged. The residents left the house and lived in another place the house was abandoned by residents in April 2019 then
This is my hometown. When i was a little, i remember in 1979, i was bathing my grandmother on an old house in there. Maybe, the empty old house in there was my house. I cannot remember it clearly because it was like 30 years ago and all of my family and I were leaving to some new places. I want to visit my hometown by watching this video.

Well anyway I've been watching your videos for the past few days since it's interesting to see how you communicate with people around. On previous videos I actually wondering how can you be so fascinated by Indonesia nature while Scotland itself has so many beauty landscapes. But then in this video, right upon that viewpoint place you visited, I can see that even in Sumatra that kind of places also exist, a raw beauty of nature. I hope can get there someday, and the beauty maintains as stunning as I saw in your video. Cheers

Interesting fact to those who may not be aware, the locals hardly ever use Bahasa Indonesia, instead they use the native Batak language, a whole different language in its own right. It's not uncommon to meet locals especially elders who doesn't speak a word of Bahasa Indonesia. Although possibly the most friendly people towards outsiders, from a general perspective as "orang Batak" who grew up outside the batak community, it is well known that the native locals are very self-conscious if not insecure to the notion that they often are considered as "poor" and "less educated" people. Of course once they actually reach a point at which they are considered successful ( for instance), very few could keep their usual chill. Basic human nature I guess.
I think I've experienced the opposite of this. I married an Indonesian that I met in college. She grew up near Jakarta. While her ability to speak Batak is limited, her identity as a Batak is very important to her. My mother in Law (her Mom) tried to talk me into joining the Batak nation ( apparently this can be done if I am adopted by a Batak family and she had the connections to make that happen) and have my wife and I go through a Batak Marriage ceremony) but we decided not to take that route. Having said we plan to visit the Lake Toba area some day, experience it for ourselves and meet her relatives there.

Dale Philip, I do appreciate what you have doing in my Home Village. I am Jogi Sidabutar. I was borned at 1959 in this very Island, Samosir, exactly in Tomok village. Your visitation to this island reminded me back to the earliest 1970. At those years my family runned a lostment called JOGI'S ACCOMODATION, as you could read it in the Asian Hand Book, wrote by Billl Dalton, also another tourist guide book for Asia by Tony Whiller, which you could also read in a book with title "Lonely Planet". If you have time you can search those sources. What I am trying to say is that I had a lot of stories about tourists and tourism in Lake Toba at that 2 decades (earliest 1970 to latest 1980) that I'd could share. But any how, you've visited and enjoyed our village/island. May you have a beautiful and nice experiencies during in Samosir Island. And hopefully you will come again in the next years to come. Hi, Dale. I just found your channel and enjoy your videos. Just for your information, using right hand when giving something to people is considered as a polite act, based on Indonesian culture. Right hands, in many Indonesian tribes, are considered as the good one. Several tribes believe the right one brings luck. Almost all Indonesian (when they were toddlers) are told to use right hands for eating, giving, receiving something, and so on.
I enjoyed your video very much 😍 the beautiful view took my breath away ...wish i lived in a place like that away from the craziness of this world 😵 Thank you be safe 😊👍🙏 from South Texas USA 🤠❤️
Something that I like from u is, that we will not explore as much as u do if we were there, visiting the unknown place, uncommon place, but u did, and it's so fun to watch
Dale I absolutely love when you are driving on the scooter or bike and recording, it feels like a first person video game, it's very satisfying to watch
i remember when i come to my grandma home in there back in 2016, there is more trees and grass over that abandon home and paragliding spot. i just shocked with the condition around there right now :( uhh really miss that amazing place.. thank you Mr Dale for your video
Im bataknese, my grandma said to me if that village is haunted but I don't believe that story! But wow, you're so brave and really strong to walk so far!
Thank you for coming to Lake Toba and making a video documentation about Lake Toba to introduce Lake Toba to the world. I hope with this video tourists around the world can come to Lake Toba. for those who watch this video come to Lake Toba, your eyes will be spoiled by the view of Lake Toba which is very beautiful.

Beautiful blue horizon! Dale? Ireland "brother country" and London " ppl are not friendly " ha. One day I would love to hear you say "England and its ppl are so friendly like us Scottish". I get the feeling that I have a long wait to hear that 😮 😘
The problem is a lot of parts of england aren’t really england anymore. We have such a multi cultural population and as much as people won’t want to hear it that contributes to some bad mannerisms that can give people a negative memory.i bet anyone that’s visited Cornwall and Devon sort of way wouldn’t have a bad word to say about england or the people.
been binge watching Indonesia(my home country) videos from some other youtubers, then bumped into yours. The moment you talked football here plus you kept saying you got strong legs ;) from prvious videos kind of made me felt like I met you before even played football/soccer with you here in Canada. So, was it you here in Edmonton back in 2014/2015? if it was, then you were that strongest player on the pitch that time, a runner and just everywhere all over the pitch bro nice to see you again, and thank you for Indonesia videos!
The Government of Indonesia planned to build "10 new Bali" for tourist destinations. and Lake Toba is one of the them. it still on the process. planned to be finished in 2021. The road you see in the video probably will become off road track or mountain bike.
Everywhere you go, these people just automatically smile and welcome. Nice neighborhood even they don't know you and don't understand your language. And I admire your guts to go alone dude.
Your blog is Very interesting and we can get lots of knowledge from your blog . How lucky you are . Traveling whole around the world 🌎 God bless you. Love from myanmar 🇲🇲 ❤

@@Dale_Philip I had a friend who taught karate and he traveled a lot. I trained with him and we spent lots of time together. But any how, you've visited and enjoyed our village/island. May you have a beautiful and nice experiencies during in Samosir Island. And hopefully you will come again in the next years to come. You know what? Today and the years to come, our president is keep on building many beautiful destination infrastructure and facilities in Lake Toba surrounding, to make confortable feeling for the tourust.
Any way, if you don't mind and if you have time you can add my FB, Star Jog.

hello bro I'm a native Indonesian Batak tribe I like your vlog. Thank you for visiting Samosir land, I hope the people there are friendly to tourists, enjoy Bro God Blessi
Now I'm a big fan of Scotland.. Before I only knew Sean Connory and Greard Butler.. Now I know Dale Phillips who taken all my time to watch him
I enjoyed your video very much 😍 the beautiful view took my breath away ...wish i lived in a place like that away from the craziness of this world 😵 Thank you be safe 😊👍🙏 from South Texas USA 🤠❤️
Something that I like from u is, that we will not explore as much as u do if we were there, visiting the unknown place, uncommon place, but u did, and it's so fun to watch
Dale honestly you very brave person.. came to another country then did the adventure just by your self without team 👏👏👍👍
Dale I absolutely love when you are driving on the scooter or bike and recording, it feels like a first person video game, it's very satisfying to watch
i remember when i come to my grandma home in there back in 2016, there is more trees and grass over that abandon home and paragliding spot.
i just shocked with the condition around there right now :(

Im bataknese, my grandma said to me if that village is haunted but I don't believe that story! But wow, you're so brave and really strong to walk so far!

Pamonangan Village is one of the villages located in the Pangururan Samosir sub-district ... it's nice to see you enjoying fried rice and interacting with the residents there ... even with limited serving and communication ... hope you enjoy it
Man, love to watch your videos, always. You some kinda explorer and finding many many more hidden place. About the viewpoint, i never seen anyone or any vlogger goes there. You are the first one for me. You have traveled Indonesia further than me as an Indonesian hahaha. Keep the good work, Dale!

Check timeline, and found this video.
It's talking about Batak,
Then i clicked.
And, wow, this video is superb.
Now, i am longing my hometown.
This video makes me want to explore more about my ancestral land...
Well done, brother.
Nice to see another journey.
Beautiful blue horizon!
Dale? Ireland "brother country" and London " ppl are not friendly " ha. One day I would love to hear you say "England and its ppl are so friendly like us Scottish". I get the feeling that I have a long wait to hear that 😮
😘
It will never happen :D

It's a pity that such a view point is neglected. The locals could have done well with a proper infrastructure. The panoramic view is beautiful.
The Government of Indonesia planned to build "10 new Bali" for tourist destinations. and Lake Toba is one of the them. it still on the process. planned to be finished in 2021.
The road you see in the video probably will become off road track or mountain bike.
@@kudajingkrak4919 thank goodness for Jokowi right!

Amazing vlog. So natural and I love it so much. Never seen any foreign vlogger like you :)
Your blog is Very interesting and we can get lots of knowledge from your blog . How lucky you are . Traveling whole around the world 🌎 God bless you. Love from myanmar 🇲🇲 ❤
One thing that amazes me is the fact that a Scots man eats foreign foods. My family has Scottish origins and we eat very bland foods. I give you credit for being adventurous!
Sounds like my parents. They will never attempt to eat anything exotic.
@@Dale_Philip I had a friend who taught karate and he traveled a lot. I trained with him and we spent lots of time together. He got me to step outside the box and now I love Japanese food and Taiwanese and Mexican etc. He would take me to the grocery store and show me the things to buy to make food tastier and more exotic.
I'm Scottish and I absolutely adore Asian foods, the spicier the better.
That said, I do also enjoy porridge the true scots way ;)
