I'm a Rideshare driver for the last 5 years. my 08 Rondo has been with me for the whole time 13,000+ trips. I got it at 160.000, and now have just About 400.000 miles on it. I did just put in a good (used) engine in it though. (felt 400.000 is enough on one motor!) I have changed the drive axles, 3 alternators, lower control arms, struts and shocks, fuel pump and filter, rotors and many brake pads, Radio, clock spring, turn signal switch, and (a couple) of driver door window switches, that damned over head sunglasses holder (twice) lots of tires, a good number of taillight bulbs until I stopped passengers from slamming the rear hatch! and a few headlight bulbs, and many, many oil changes. (I run a quart of "Hyperlube" at every oil change) and have been running 5/30 instead of 5/20 oil for the last couple of years. sometimes. other than that, that's about all I've changed. great durable upholstery (cloth) same door handles, window motors, carpeting, and so many of the original mechanical parts. it's been a good car and I drive it every day (California weather!) I had no idea of what a Rondo was when I first bought it in 2017 ($2800) but, it's been ono of, if not my best and favorite car ever. and the list is pretty long of cars and brands of cars that I owned before. so, don't totally discount the Rondo if it's been well taken care of! I do prefer the 2.4 (mine) because it has a timing chain (instead of a belt) but, there is a Problem with rod and main bearings in some of these motors. though, I took the bearing caps off my old removed motor and the were in excellent shape. (l'm thinking it's the Hyperlube, but that's not a guaranteed assessment)
I have no doubt these could be reliable cars, especially in Southern dry climates (few cars survive to 400000km as daily drivers in Canada) however, my warning is about parts availability. When the dealer can’t even source a basic brake hose… that’s cause for concern.
Very nice, I call this "The Kia Rondo Challenge", and it looks like you're in the lead. What type of engine does your Rondo have? I got the 2.4L I4 around 2009, hoping that the metal timing chain would be maintenance-free, unlike the timing belt on the 2.7L V6. Sadly, that wasn't the case - two times, once at 60k and once at 100k miles, I had to replace the timing chain due to wear and excessive slack, resulting in a camshaft sensor error and rough / non starting engine. Now I use synthetic oil and try to change the oil more regularly to maintain the timing chain better, and I found out that a 4mm diameter borehole cam can be used to inspect the timing chain tensioner state (how far it's extended already) with the camshaft cover removed. So on the I4 engine, add the following to your list at around 80k miles: timing chain replacement OR timing chain tensioner extension check, water pump replacement, accessory belt idle rollers and accessory belt tensioner replacement.
@@woodsarmouryeBay and Rock Auto has a lot of parts for this car. I have a 2007 and usually get my parts from there. Also do a Google search for the parts. You'll find a lot of Kia dealers have online stores that sell parts. Might not be the cheapest route, but parts are usually available
Next time try Rock Auto. I wouldn't recommend getting rid of that Rondo, unless 2009 turns out to be a bad year. I have an 08 Rondo LXV6 with over 211,000 miles. It's been very reliable and easy to maintain. They aren't pretty, but they keep running.
Nice! I have an 08 LXV6 too and about 186000 on it now. We’ve got an 08 rondo with the 2.4l engine and it’s lasted us over 230k miles, only problem we’ve had with it is the A/C just started to go bad, but seeing as we haven’t had a single problem with it before I’d say it was a good investment
@@introvertdzephyrwow over 230k miles you must have maintained that car well. I have a 07 2.4 L with 177k on it and my goal is to take it to 200k. Did you ever fix your AC issue?
The majority of Rondo problems are with the 4 cyl's. A lot of recalls also. But, I bought an 08 LX that looks a lot like that one on the outside, but it has the 6 Cyl 2.7 engine. It has been a great little car. Mine now has 213,000 miles on it. But the engine is still strong. My mechanic says I could easily get another 100,000 out of it. It has never failed to start right up and go. These models are getting harder to find so I'm considering restoring this one. One thing I really love is that it looks like a small car, but inside , its so roomy. Looks identical to the Sorento inside. Seats 5 , but you can stick a couple kids in the back section if necessary. Lots of storage under the floor and out of sight. and it will turn on a dime.
I have the same issues with my 2009 Kia Rondo, definitely didn’t know anything about the brakes though. I really haven’t had any major issues with it, thank God. Wow, unbelievable, I already knew Kia/Hyundai weren`t great vehicles but I never would have ever imagined they were that bad for parts supply or durability, and so I`m now pondering the thought of how they might have stood up against Lada or Yugo as the worst cars ever made. For older vehicles, it is probably best to just try to hold out for a Toyota in good condition, my neighbour used to have an immaculate Camry with over 800K on it, but his uncle worked at the auction in Embrun, ON, so he likely had a good tip on purchasing it...
