Psy's editing continues to be top-notch, and I for one will never get tired of Jules being so welcoming, positive, and expressive in his rundowns of these lists. It feels less like a typical TH-cam list presentation and more like friends coming over to chat with you about cool things they've found in a game. Keep up the great work, you two!
Maybe it was just me, but I foolishly assumed you were safe while reading the the computer terminals in Alien: Isolation. And I don't mean that I finished reading the the lore on the computer and turned around and the xenomorph was right there.
Resident Evil 3 also qualifies. In the original you could be chilling in a room in which you defeated all enemies, thinking the threat was over and Nemesis would break in. In the remake he can actually show up _in save rooms,_ the one kind of room in the game that's supposed to be 100% safe.
I loved the music from silent hill 4. Was excited for the game, eventually played it when it came out, saw it really had nothing to do with silent hill 1-3 at all, kept dying because the ghosts and our room being so cursed-my fault because i took home the old cursed doll. Never finished the game but i played it over a holiday break from college when i got it and had time to play it and never really had that amount of time to sit down and just play since. Always work and college, work and tending to my family and now, basically just work. Someday though, perhaps.
Honestly I just started playing the Arkham series again and that Man-Bat cut scene got me still while playing the new game plus mode. I looked down for a second to give my kitten attention and thing somehow got me even though I knew it was coming. And if you listen to the conversations from the soldiers and thugs you can hear a conversation talking about Man-Bat flying around.
In my opinion Castlevania Lament of Innocence could count. Up to this game I got use to the fact that when you clear a hall you could take a moment to stand there if you want. I stood at the door at the end of one just to see if Leon had an idle animation when I first played the game, only to get attacked out of nowhere by a blood skeleton.
honestly, how could you not mention the necromorph in the elevator in Dead Space 2? elevators are like loading screens or a save haven for players to take a breather but in Dead Space 2 there is 1 elevator where a necromorph jumps at you from the top, scared me shitless.
Have to repeat my suggestion from Last week. 10 NPC waifu's the developer never thought would happen. Ken Levine modeling Elizabeth off of his sister. Then wishing he didn't when he saw how fans wanted to spend more time in Elizabeth's loving embrace.
it doesn't really count, but a gag in "Perfect Dark" comes to mind. there's an area called "the carrington institute", where you can practice sneaking, to target practice with every gun you're unlocked, and explore a large building safely... BUT, there's a mission where the enemy ATTACKS that building, and you have to rescue everyone! the mission doesn't even start normally, it fools you into thinking you've won, then Joanna hears an explosion... she's also wearing a fancy dress during the mission, instead of her usual jumpsuit!
I'm not gonna lie, when I started watching your videos (as in ones hosted by you) I thought the legend thing was cheesy.. But the more I watched the more it made me smile. And because of you calling us legends I've realized my personal self talk has gotten mean recently... This is all a very roundabout way to say thank you for reminding me to be nicer to myself. I am a legend ^-^
I remember the workbench ambush when playing Last of Us 2. I actually liked it. The whole build up was brilliant, because I first found notes nearby indicating there's a group hiding out here. When you sneak into the building there are glass bottles as alarms, so I’m just waiting to expect survivors inside. You even hear footsteps in the floor above. Then you clear the room but there's this door you can’t open, and in the back of my mind I’m thinking "got to be an ambush." As a result, when I used the workbench and heard footsteps sprinting at me from behind, I was more than prepared for a fight. Environmental storytelling at its best.
Geez, I must be so desensitized to jump scares, I've read that most people were scared by that, me, I was like: "ooh, that's weird", and that's it. Games like Dead Space, Dead Space 2 and Dead Space Remake, real jumpscare fests, never got me. The last two games that have scared me are Outlast and Immortality, and it was more because of tone and atmosphere, so I guess I'm immune to jump scares haha.
@@duhmzdaih Suppose I use "jump scare" loosely. It's not like I yelped in fear or anything, but the sudden appearance of Man-Bat when I thought I was in a generic animation caught me off guard in a way that most "jump scares" just don't. I've played the three main Dead Space games, and I don't recall any part I'd find genuinely "scary", especially when you can usually see the jump scares coming a mile off. It's more of a surprise when something doesn't come bursting out of an air vent.
Seeing #1 brought a big goofy grin to my face. No game has ever brought a worse feeling than when your health no longer regenerates and the text “The air in this room feels heavy…This room, it’s so oppressive” pops up on your screen.
Games with end-game difficulty areas that can be accessed early in the game, accidentally or otherwise. An example: Baldur's Gate 2, Shadows of Amn, where you can get a Rogue Stone fairly early and end up in the Twisted Rune Hideout, simply because you were exploring the city and clicked on a door.
There is actually a workbench in The Last of Us 2 before the ambush one that shows the player that they are not necessarily safe places. It's in a petrol station in Downtown. Using it cause a group of WOLF'S to show up. But the ambush is a long time later so it's easy to forget.
The Last of Us 2 moment, there's a similar moment in original Dead Space lol. Provided you clear the area first, work benches are typically safe by the time you're comfortable accessing them, but there is one I THINK late mid game where you can be attacked from behind in an otherwise empty room, IF you happen to use the work bench
Ayo!!! I JUST SAW THIS! I'm on a Jules list baby!!! Thank you Jules and the lovely whatculture gaming team from a coloured kid from Cape Town South Africa!❤😊 I actually have a short film coming out this year that I wrote called fighting with tomorrow via free film school and a student series I acted in called Who We Are by amateur hours. I do love a dose of Affirmations by Jules. Cheers, mate! Hope you're taking care of yourself as well, and I hope you're able to get your surgery rescheduled. (How DARE they cancel on you??) Have a good one!
I remember in LEFT 4 Dead there would occasionally be a special infected waiting in Safe rooms. One time a Tank was locked inside the safe room with us 😢😢
Psy you've taken over editing marvelously! Glad to see more of you in the video also. Jules, you steamy headed GOAT, keeping my Tuesday mornings alive like a fresh pot of coffee.
Jules was gunning ( talking shish) some of the characters which made me burst out laughing. Dudes a legend. Also Jules, I'm in the same boat as you for a sinus infection where I live. The cottonwood trees are making it look as if it is snowing out and it's killing my allergies.
You forget about Cauldron Theta in the Burning Shores DLC. You think it’s just like any other of those chambers, when you go to override the system core you think “we’ve taken out all the machines” but nope as you’re in the middle of overriding it a giant robot frog jumps at you from above
How is ALIEN Isolation not on the list? Not even an “honorable mention”? The most nefarious room, or section, you thought you were safe was the area containing the Marshalls office. Completely safe, no xenomorph, no killer androids and no hostile humans. A safe sanctuary for you to take a deep breath knowing that you are safe. Obviously, after the Alien is dealt with the Working Joes go on a murder rampage and the once serene, peaceful safe spot is overrun with killer androids and hostile humans. But here’s another little secret: once the Working Joes, or you, eliminate the hostile humans and you eliminate the Working Joes the area is safe again and can be revisited any time even when the Alien is in play again he won’t show up. Or so you thought. Revisiting the area once the Alien is in play again, getting rid of any Working Joes or hostiles and no sign of the Alien makes you think that the area is still safe from him. BUT the moment you call a tram to take you to another part of the station while waiting for it to come to you, you hear the unmistakable, heart pounding, adrenaline rushing and all out frightening sound of THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP and the Xenomorph rushes straight at you. This place wasn’t safe at all. It was never safe at all. That happened to me on my second playthrough while backtracking looking for secrets and scrap. On the reload, after he killed me I called the tram but this time I hid. Sure enough, he came rushing into the room to investigate and started his usual search routine and eventually left the room just as the tram car arrived. It was then that I realized that this area was never safe space from the Xenomorph at all.
Dragon Age: Origins The party camp, where you rest, talk to companions, and do inventory management. It is safe, until you finish a few main quests and then you get ambushed. With bonus heartbreak if you choose the Dalish Elf origin
Would The Evil Within's loading screens count here? I'm pretty sure stuff was changed around in the background of the save/upgrade rooms too.
Timesplitters where you're rescuing the maidens and you have to unlock their chains but one turns zombie and tries to murder you. Scary as hell as a kid

But he can't go into that toy store. Some umbrella scientists programed him not to go into a toy store even if a target is in there.
I'm just imagining him bursting in, Kool-Aid man style 😂
@@Mysticgamer To be fair, the toy store has only one exit. He can wait outside and he appropriaterly does like to "toy" with his victims.
