Despite being an older video, this was extremely helpful with understanding the ebrake setup of my 76 C10. I was intimidated at first, but this made it very clear.
Working on my '86 Chevy K20; bought it with a non-working E-brake. This video is a big help for me.
Thank you for your videos! Over the course of my projects, I've watched several of your uploads
@styles950 You may want to check the brake pedal cable to see if it has broke.
@banaman18 Try cranking up and down on the handle 5-6 times. It may self ratchet and adjust for you.Hope this helps.
@jNofdog Possibly a new cable. You would have to look under the vehicle to see what has broken first.
@BoneHouse333 Yes, same basic idea but there may be differences in how things connect and for sure there are differences in how things are routed.
We currently do not have an auto repair video for this particular application.
@styles950 You may want to bring it back to the shop that worked on it for you. It may be something as simple as an air pocket in the cooling system. hope this helps.
@1Youmadbro1 It sounds like the cable could be broken. Place the car on a level surface, and secure the wheels so that it doesn't roll. Then look under neath and see if the cable has broke on you.
@SethLeday From inside the cab crank up and down on the emergency brake handle a few times . That may snug it up for you.
This video is greatly appreciated, Thanks for uploading! (Thumbs up!)
Keep those classics on the road
Replaced cable and rear drum brakes with a screwdriver and vicegrips. Awesome!!
Thank you, I wish I had a lift in my garage. Doing this alone, on the floor tomorrow will be lots of fun. Of course, when It's done I'll say "There, that'swhy I drive an '87 Chevy. Fixed for the price of cables."
@shawdoofnight Sounds like your cables may be frozen and not releasing.
This video was exactly what I was looking for. Just made this a DIY job for me! Thanks!
Thank you for putting out this excellent video. I realize it is a lot of work and appreciate all the work!
HI Joseph, You may want to have a qualified mechanic take a look at it for you. There could be a hole or a break in one of the brake lines, or possibly a bad master cylinder.
Do you have a video of changing the brake cables on a 2000 GMC Sierra. I pushed the emergency pedal down,,but it doesn't hold the truck in place. Think maybe cable is broken some place.Just bought this truck,
Thank you for your super videos We really apprecicate them all, John, Cornwall, Ont.Canada..
thank you so much for this great video you have provided us with , now i can get back to drifting !
Thanks for the upload. My brake drum will not go back on my 93 xj Cherokee. I think the parking brake has seized, time to try this since I've already done wheel cylinder, spring kit, shoes and drums
it did help me Im doing that same job soon and I understand alot better now thanks for that
It would be nice to find a video of typical F150/250/350 E brake handle and short cable repair and/or replacement (under dash driver's side).
Great video. Told me exactly what I needed to know. Many thanks.
Thanks for watching. Have a great day! 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
You may want to check the cable under the car to see if it's frozen.
Thanks! This helped me on my 1985 C10
Great video! Nicely done!
+Jeremy N Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
i would also suggest looking at calipers and brake solenoid
It may be a similar process.
This was really great, but you dont carry the parking brake cable on your parts site? 87 chevy G20
Request your opinion on replacing just the cable that connects to the hand brake lever and equalizer? Is this portion designed to stretch more than the others? We adjusted to maximum tightness, drove up the incline of our driveway, possibly a 20 percent slope, put the car in neutral, let it roll backwards, tried the parking brake, and slowed the backward roll slightly. I believe this means the cables are over stretched. Request your opinion on this too. Believe these are the original cables. On a 2000 Chevrolet Prizm Lsi.
At 3:10 I figured out a trick that is easy to close those teeth/tabs to pull out the cable through the backing plate use a small hose clamp and move it till it is almost touching the backing plate then tighten and pull on the cable to get it started then release the clamp it works. I had planned to reuse my cable to go on a rear end I’m changing on my truck.
+Frank Guyton Thanks for the tip! 1AAuto.com
thanks guys, helped alot
Thank you for sharing this with us!!:)
Or u can use a 13mm wrench and push it onto the metal peices to push the tabs Down for the parking brake wire
I was wondering what do you use to tighten the tension in the cable after replacing it
It might be similar.
Ok so I need to do the emergency brake on my 98 S10 to safety it, I was gonna send it to a shop but this looks easy. Did you replace the line right from the pedal ?
Would this work for a impala 2005, or is there too many difference? Great vid by the way.
Is this the same way you would change the cables on a canyon as well?
Would this be similar steps to replace the cable on a 1962 Chevy Impala?
I found a trick to remove the cable from the plate. Use a adjustable plumbing clamp against the plate on the cable and that will allow you to squeeze the teeth in without breaking.
Great video . helped me with the re and re.
What about the replacement of the cable from the emergency brake pedal?
Would it be the same thing for a mustang 1990 but slightly different?
On my 2002 Chevy suburban 4x4, I changed the parking brake pads but when the parking brake is engaged the vehicle still rolls. Not as much as it once did. What else needs to be done in order to fix this problem?
When I pull my E-Brake all the way up there is no resistance and the car doesn't stop moving when I park it, it just rolls down the hill. I have 2 by 4's behind the tires right now and it hasn't moved in about 2 days is it the parking brake cable? Can I fix it myself? Thank you!
@1aauto I took it to a shop to have a heater core put in and when it came back it wasn't working. Could it be they just 4got to reconnect something?
Do you know where I can buy the parking brake cable equalizer bracket for a 1986 chevy k10 silverado?
find a box wrench that fits tight over the the end of the cable where it comes through the backing plate
twist and wiggle and its out
Thanks for the comments and for watching! +Bill Davies

+the bandit We currently do not have an auto repair video on this particular repair. Thanks for watching. 1aauto.com
Didnt quite see how you connected the cable to the brake shoe and im stumped on that. I know its probably pretty easy but ive never done one
Walt L That could be because when he cut the end of old cable he did not show how the new cable was retained in the end of actuator arm that hooked onto the brake shoe. He did say something about watch toward the end of the video (clarification ????? }
Holy crap, did anyone even notice the muffler!!! hahahaha

Hi there! I have a 2002 Oldsmobile alero is it the same to change the emergency cable?
+Gergely Juhász Thank you for watching. There may be some similarities, however it would be slightly different based on the set up underneath. 1aauto.com
How to adjust Corolla AE100 Parking Brake? My Car Brake does not work Properly.
my parking brake is completely cut off on the drivers side of my 94 gmc suburban will this cause any problems
+Lrae Krats We do recommend having this replaced at your convenience if you plan on attempting to use the parking brake system in the near future. If your parking brake cable is cut on the driver side then you will not be able to use the parking brake safely.
How do i replace a emergency brake pedal on a 84 Cadillac coupe deville
Why didn't you show R&R of the first cable from the inside of the cab?
its the same on ford ranger 93 ??
I assume that once you turned the screw further to the left, everything was fine.
+Adonus Harrell Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com

Don't you have any brake tools?
The emergency brake pedal doesn't lock on a 2000 taurus. What could be wrong?
10 years experience and don’t even know what a keeper is wow
what is the part number? I can not seem to find the part on the website
+Alex Garza Thanks for watching! We currently do not offer this part, we just have the installation video.
Thanks for the helpful videos. Can we stop calling it an E brake. It’s a parking brake.
+philip gavin Thanks for checking us out. 1aauto.com
If your brakes ever fail you might decide that it's a parking brake _and_ an emergency brake.
Hi Joseph, We currently do not have a video that shows this..HOWEVER....you can try to raise and lower the emergancy brake handle like 8-10 times, usually this will ratched the slack out of the cable and self adjust for you. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
how much would a shop charge for this service..??
+Daniel Ochoa It would depend on the hourly rate of the shop. 1aauto.com
Local place by me wanted $500 to replace all the cables and ebrake shoes. I told them I'd do it myself and ordered the all needed parts for a complete replace for about $120.
looks like he is going to be needing a universal joint very soon to.
I think the camera could be a little closer.
Disappointed that it did not show what I was looking for - replace e-cable at pedal inside my 1988 Chevrolet Suburban
that exhaust/muffler is looking rough too..maybe next video
I hv a 94 gmc suburban 5.7l c1500. hesitation and slow speed pick
+Lrae Krats Thank you for watching. There are multiple reasons this could happen, but the parking brake could be one. Do you have any check engine light codes on the dash? 1aauto.com
Yes the check engine light comes on ...I changed the wires ,rotor, and cap ....im thinking the fuel pump is bad ..I hear a thumping sound from the tank when it hesitates
what if it's disc brakes not drums
Breaking stuff to get it apart is not real professional. How about just using a small hose clamp, nut driver, and tightening down the clamp on the parking brake cable until it will pull out of the backing plate?? ;)
Show me one on a 03 Tahoe buddy
+Adrian Hasette We currently do not have an auto repair video that covers this particular repair. We will keep this request in mind in the event that we need to make this repair in the future. 1aauto.com

+Adam Pinto Thank you for checking us out, and the feedback. It is always good to wear gloves during vehicle repairs. 1aauto.com
