    I started watching you when I was 19. I’ll be 27 this year. I’ve learned more from you about life, tools, and just generally being a good man than anyone else in my life could have ever taught me. In that time I got into the trades (HVAC). I’ve gotten married, had a son, and joined the Marines. And anytime I’m having a rough go at it I just pull you up on TH-cam and watch your videos. It’s not what your videos are about that keep us watching. It’s the way you make them, your excitement, and enthusiasm will keep us watching as long as you want to make them. Thank you for making an impact on my life and I’m sure the lives of many other young men.

Once a person hits the middle class your happiness level is not going to increase much more with out your health, love, family, passions, and the toys do add a lot, boat, snowbike stuff like that, that will help propel you on adventures.

    The last minute of this hit pretty hard with where I’m at in my life. Stuck in the medical field where every week there’s a new mandate or some kind of sensitivity training. I got into the field to help save lives but all it feels like I do now is follow orders by people that shouldn’t be giving them in the first place and when I question I’m told not to. That led me to really look at what I want to do for the rest of my life, which in turn led me to choose to start welding school and become a CWI and to work for myself. It’s thanks to channels like this that put me back in touch with my construction background. Funny how I quit construction only 5 years ago because I thought I was bettering myself, but now I’m choosing to go back to it to better myself.

    When I went to work at the railroad, there was a set of Williams wrenches all the way up to 2" that were already old, when I got there. They had a hard life. I used them for 46 years and never babied them. They were left for the next guy to try and wear them out. They were good, heavy and felt great in the hand. Can't go wrong with Williams.

  • @valuedhumanoid6574
    @valuedhumanoid6574 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have two sets of tools at work. The box in the maintenance crib has all my quality stuff. When I am rebuilding gearboxes, drives, pumps, spindles, hydraulic cylinders....the bench work, it's with those tools. Snap-On, Craftsman, Proto, Channel Lock, etc. When I get a call on the production floor, I grab my bag full of Harbor Freight stuff. We use a wet coolant system with sluices under each machine to carry away the chips and swarf created by machine tools. Your hands are always slimy and so are your tools. All the sudden you hear tink tink tink and a wrench you lost grip on is now white water rafting to the sump in the basement, 100 yards away. Occasionally you can recover them inside the hoppers, but it's rare. Or you think you have everything and you left some tools sitting somewhere inside the machine...gone. Never to be seen again. And people "borrowing" tools as well....gone, never to be seen again. So that's my system, it works pretty well. And it saves me from replacing high dollar items as frequent

  • @simonthebroken9691
    @simonthebroken9691 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Everyone needs to make their own choice. Multiple lifetime quality verses get it now, break it tomorrow. If you need something in a hurry, fine. Personally it depends on what it is for me.
    I struggle buying anything from Harbor Freight. I had some loading ramps that were dangerously weak. They wouldn't hold up 100 pounds. If I can pick something up I don't need ramps. The ramps were advertised at 500 pounds. Total fallacy. I then checked the jack stands and engine hoists. Looked and felt incredibly weak. I won't trust them on anything that I could end up in the ER.

    Buy once, cry once. That as drilled into my head by my grandfather back in the 80's, when I was a young boy, learning how to pull nails and straighten them for re-use.
    He saidnit may be OK at times when you are starting out, to buy a lower priced and lower quality tool, but when it needs replacing, after you've made a lot of money off of that tool, buy the higher quality and typically higher priced tool. It will be the one that will last longer if you treat it correctly (and even if abused to an extent).
    That man probably forgot more knowledge than both of us combined know today.

  • @jmackinjersey1

    Locking pliers, made by any other brand than Vice Grips (US Made) and Knipex/Milwaukee tool are not even worth the money. They are sloppy or loose and even pinch your hands sometimes when you close them.

Alluding to a recent tool video, you mentioned Blue Point, my Snap-on man told me they are the same wrench as Snap-on. The only difference being the finish. There are several older names of renown quality that take up residence in my toolbox are, Williams, Proto, and Cornwell. All American made.

    I'm a true fan Mr. W follow your passions, I'll follow along for the ride. Also As a Canadian I too put lots of value on supporting local and buying Canadian manufactured goods, but can I add an addendum to that adage, because I see you seemingly struggling with the inclusion of quality, but not non U.S made goods in your tool box and presumably life in general. The last few weeks has really shown that we (the West) are all in this together and when the chips are down we rely on each other. Supporting a German factory worker ensures that they are paid fair wages and are able to buy quality U.S made goods. Let's support quality work done by people who are fairly paid for their effort, regardless of where they happen to live and lets say no to low quality slave labour junk and the systems that make it possible. Keep on keepin' on Brother!

    Most professional homeowner guys get their tools piecemeal at yard sales, estate sales, Craig's list, etc. Sure, if you're a professional carpenter, then it's a proper investment to have complete sets of professional level tools. In reality, most men get by with a couple pair of Vicegrips, a screwdriver that has interchangeable tips, a saw of some kind and a claw hammer. As far as power tools: reversible drill...maybe an oscillating tool like a Fein...Skil saw, jig saw....Maybe one or two weird things that you bought on impulse when you were at Ace Hardware, that you never even use one time.
    First project: *Build a wooden crate* and chuck it all in there and throw that under the stairs. Call up some friends and have them stop by for stimulating conversation and roasted marshmallows by the fire. Done deal.
    * = optional

    This was an awesome video, I'm not exactly watching this video because I need tools, I am a typical kid that got roaped into buying 50k of snap on tools because I'm a mechanic. I'm watching this video because I try to catch every video you make, I choose your channel over any television show. I've learned so much from you, I've gained passions as I learned that your interests fall in line with what I find interesting, and I could not thank you enough for the things you've taught me. When I was younger, my dad picked work over family and unfortunately he was not there to be a role model for me, and my pap passed when I was a year old, leaving me without any male role models, I've stumbled through life trying to find my way on my own. The day I found your channel is the day I started learning how to do tasks that I wished I'd learned, I've learned how to be a better man, I've adopted your mind set of trying to do everything in a way that I could be proud of. That being said, I couldn't help but notice almost every video you've made in your current homestead has been different, I felt like the light has left your eyes and this has become more of a job for you. This video you have admitted that my fears are actually true, but now that it has come to light, I have faith that you will follow this path to rekindle the things that have brought you such happiness. Words can not express how much I'd like to thank you for all of the amazing content you have blessed us with, but I'd still like to say thank you. God bless you and your family.

    You're sleeping not getting Malco brave vice grips. They're beautiful. Come presented in a box, shiny, polished chrome finish. American made. Awesome tool.

    I just use Grand dads tools: USA made in the 1940's & 1950's.
    Looks like Simply safe paid for the tools in this video! /sarc

    Wright is indeed a great USA toolmaker! I have said it before, and will say it again, the Wright 2.0 (Wright Tool 952) is a great value at less than the Williams set (same size set for ~$200). As an added bonus, the wright has the cuts in the open end just like the Snap-On. Great USA made value!!

    Cody! I have been watching your videos for years! The first video I watched was how to sharpen an axe with a file. And Now I am building my owe shed and work bench. But I had a question. Should I mount my vise on the left or right of my bench?!

    Not coming off rude by no means, this isn’t towards you. I love the content, your very talented and committed to you channel. You have hands down one of the best quality videos. I still don’t understand why people always complain how hard it is and how stressful life is when the do TH-cam? They are so fortunate, I don’t understand how hard it is editing and all the off camera stuff, I’m assuming it is stressful and time consuming but I think a lot of people forget how life is when your not a video creator. There is no job out there that you can make the kinda money these TH-camrs are making. As well with people taking months off at a time for their mental state and such, what job can you just take off 2 months because you’ve had a rough year? And once again I’m not directing anything towards you I’m saying TH-camrs as a whole. I think everyone is guilty of taking things for granite.

    I watch because the things you become obsessed with are interesting. I have a similar mindset and a way of living. The channel becomes the interest of the month. Be it dirtbikes, ATV's, Tractors and accessories, Hand tools etc. It's not uncommon for someone to have temporary obsessions and disseminate their knowledge. I would never try to diagnose anyone but you might be ADHD. If you aren't you're certainly a spirit animal to people who are.

    I have SK, husky ,proto that is came from my grandad some of them are older than my dad who died in 2011. I believe those are all super quality tools but probably not as quality today if you're to buy new. The only things snap on makes their likes are there sided handled screwdrivers you get a really good grip. I buy Craftsman, the quality today is not like it once was but I still buy it. In my work toolbox for sockets I do like harbor freight between the colors and you used to be able to buy individual size sockets and wrenches at a single, but I don't think so no more because it's easy to replace.

    They're pricey at $40, but the Malco Eagle Grips are hands down the BEST made in USA locking pliers

    I think I have missed only a handful of videos over the last 6yrs or so. I agree with 99% of what you say and do. One of the things I like so much is what you are doing and have to say about what you are up too. So keep it up.
    And I’m pretty sure the Napa Carlyle adjustable wrenches are rebranded Wright Tool ones.

    Well, I do enjoy and appreciate your content. Some is relevant to me, some isn't, but it's always engaging. But what always astounds me is that you can consistently and effectively communicate what you want to say. I know you plan what you want to say but it never feels scripted. I think many of us know who we are, what we stand for, what has value... but to contemporaneously communicate it? To a faceless audience? That's an unusual skill... and then film it? I really don't know how you can get so much done.

    Adjustable wrenches (not necessarily Crescent branded) are a great tool, especially with a hammer face on them, as a go to tool on the farm or job site.

    The former Swedish brand of tools Bahco was bought by Snap On and became SNA Europe... Al production was moved to Spain and Portugal.. The quality have slightly degraded and it's looks like there are trying to make more money of the name than keeping the quality at top notch. Bahco used to be one of the best tool brands you could buy but it's no longer so because of greedy international companies. We still have some good producers here in Sweden and Sandvik is one of them who are creating some of the best cutters for metal lathes and other metal cutting machines. It's sad that the great history of fine tool making is no longer here in our country.

    Can't tell you how may times Ihave run into a problem and started the solution set by asking What would Cody do? It isn't about the specific solution, it's about HOW to think. Thank you!

    I am 31 years old and have spent 12 years buy quantity not quality. This was very necessary due to the number of specialized tools needed to complete jobs on different name brand cars. At this point, I have every tool I could need. 2 post lift, welder, plasma cutter, hand tools ect. Now I am reinvesting into better hand tools. This is because the Chinese hand tools have worn through the chrome and the brass/cooper is showing underneath. This has caused a few striped bolts. I wish I had the money when I was younger but that was not an option. Thanks for the great videos.

    I don't really comment but I have been watching your videos for 5 or 6 years now and I have always enjoyed them. Even though I do know a good bit about alot of the things you do. I started watching for the info on timber frame building. But I have really enjoyed watching you and your family grow. Now the only thing is you talk about east coast vs west coast. Come on down to south Louisiana in August and I will show you what real hard work is. 😆🤣

    Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten. I’ve used Williams for decades. I’m retired now but used to build communication towers. Dependability is a must.

    Young guys do not go out and buy an expensive wrench set like this. If you have $265 invest it make more money first. You'll make a slave out of yourself with thinking like this if you don't.
