I love the mini documentary where they invited buyers and others in the design industry to a mock up store with all Payless items. Everyone ooohed and aaahed and thought wow what beautiful designer items. When asked how much they would pay, it was always crazy money. Just goes to show you there are a lot of “fools” out there. Take off the cc and sell that poorly made bag for $50.00, people won’t buy it. Make it $5500.00 and they’re climbing on top of one another to get it. The “IT bag”. Yup---fools.

The giveaway for me is when CEO's, HR and corporate reps make the big brag about being ALL the things (empowering to women, empowering to BIPOC, sustainable, green...) and yet, they do absolutely NOTHING to show us they are what they say they are. I would think even the very rich don’t like to be taken for a ride, because the bags are simply not worth it. Also it’s a numbers game just how many bags can they sell to make up for the thousands they are not selling anymore?

I agree! I know few people who are really wealthy, some what we call "new money" and others who come from "generational wealth". They don't own any Chanel bag, the most expensive bag I saw in one of their wardrobes was an LV speedy and a Goyard tote. Sometimes a friend of mine who comes from generational wealth as an only child, she doesn't even bother to bring a bag with her, she just put her phone and wallet in her outdoors jacket.

I agree with your assessment that Chanel has pushed it way too far and it's outrageous. The last time I bought something from Chanel was three years ago. I still love Chanel but it's from the Karl Lagerfeld days.

What you have mentioned re Hermes new ideas in their recent bag yes its new but it’s not really a step forward in fashion. If these brands were really to step forward why the leathers hasn’t really innovate. Why the same exotic bags are still afraid of water. Most if not all of their leathers has not really made an advancement. Even the hardware there isnt anything new in the past decade.
💯 on everything you just said. I think people will still buy Chanel regardless. But luxury brands are really overcharging on their customers. Some will slowly move away to a less expensive luxury brands, while others who can afford will continue to buy.
My problem is with brands like LV and Gucci, that are trying to be in the same field as Hermes and Chanel. But sorry no. LV is all over the place with their prices. I don’t think they know who their markets really are.
To be realistic , Most people go to Hermes to buy the Quota bags in neutral colors and small sizes . They have to pay the spending ration which can be 3:1 in competitive countries !

Great video. I want to watch the CEO interview. I think Hermes is the price leader and Chanel and others are saying there is no reason why we can’t do the same. Their bread and butter is exclusivity and higher prices not only make them money but keep their brand beyond reach of most and therefore exclusive.
I think people have really stopped buying like before .I keep getting messages from different SAs asking me to take a look at their lookbooks and purchase .hahaha they deserve it .

I have noticed prada has lowered prices on bags and shoes since the start of the year. The sandals I wanted were £996. They went down to £650 so I got them. Never would have brought them at £995.

Jessie everything is more expensive & less quality. I’m curious why Chanel had an “HR Manager” (veteran) discussing quality & prices⁉️ Wouldn’t one normally use a “Global Sales/ Marketing Manager”? Plus someone with knowledge of base cost of all raw materials, workmanship, packaging etc., plus the “profit margin”. My mind boggles, I like Chanel, Hermes, LV & Fendi, Christian Dior etc., do I own many or any of them? Yes & No, we choose luxury handbags to suit our lifestyle & the quality of Chanel has been decreasing & somewhat lacking of innovation. If you’re looking @ quality & value for money then any local decent leather handcrafts-men would be a good option. After all the real luxury brands are keen to sell their “labels” (whether quiet or loud luxury).

5k was too far point for me 😂😂. And yes I can buy it - I just don’t want to. Plenty of very nice bags in 1-2k ranges.
Chanel has had the same designs for decades and the quality has gone downhill for 20 years. I think of most Chanel bags as old lady bags honestly, as they look the same as they always have for the most part (with a few exceptions). People are better off going for Coach or Marc Jacobs at this point than anything by Chanel. Hell, Zara and H&M have better quality than they or LV have at this point. 😂 Fendi's price point, along with Gucci are also better deals, as the quality is much better and you'll be paying less for many bags they offer.
If one wants to spend over $10,000+ USD for a bag; they should just go for Hermes. The quality is there and there's a lot on the second hand market; especially the non-quota bags, from Hermes that will cost under $10,000 USD.

I agree, Fendi is the destination for quality and less pedestrian design.
You can always go pre-loved for Hermes. Then one doesn't have to do "the journey". There's quite a few deals in can find on very good to excellent quality pre-loved bags, especially non-quota bags.

Sure, if you have a bag that’s 5000 one day and 10k only a couple of years later you only have to sell one which will save production costs etc..
But if people were lining up for those 5k bags and now the stores are empty… well you’re making Les profit, no matter how they want to spin it.

The brand I have least affection for is Prada. Looking at your price chart, I had to comment… They are not elegant or beautiful. There is no “history” there. And their material is usually nylon? Or something like that. Their price increase is completely unjustified. Hermes is still the best I think, even with the games.

Simple answer and it’s yes. Lol. I mean tbh the current CD has just been riding off of Karl reject / archive ideas he left behind when he left the planet. I mean it’s all stale and bad now. The collections are nothing of substance anymore and have not been for a while so that’s why they have to constantly price gouge the bags the GP cares about ex. Classics so that they have some sort of money flow coming in. Chanel is so rinse and repeat now and it’s like the same old trash every season and it’s shameful. Don’t think I’ve loved a Chanel item in years. All my Chanel is like pre 2018… Which isn’t that old and even then it was having issues. A lot of my bags from mid 2010s have quality issues but still nowhere near as bad as it is now. Preposterous stuff but again if people want it then I guess they want it lol. I think some newer customers maybe just lack the frame of reference to how good Chanel was to realize how bad it is now. Or maybe they like it. I guess we all have our own thoughts at the end of the day.

@HarryP1002maybe the Chanel-dissing vids draw in a lot of views (I mean, we clicked on this vid too 😂). As compared to uploading all videos that are Hermes-praising. So the Hermes fanvids need to be complemented w some Chanel hatemail.
