I can't explain with words how much this song means to me. What Nightwish means to me. But I can tell, that I listen to this song everyday and never get tired of it. I love it with Tarja, with Anette, or with Floor. The orchestral, instrumental, abum version. I just get goosebumps everytime I listen to this masterpiece. Tuomas is a fucking genious, I don't care if you think he's an evil or egocentric man. Just love the music he creates.

I been listening to Dark Passion Play again and her songs make me feel like I m tripping lol. It all came together very well on that album it just wasn’t what it was before

The one thing I can tell you, is that no matter who anybody think who is the best between the three of them. All of them are great! This is a band who is going now through their third singer people and they are still undefeated
Floor sang this with such gusto, but my goodness, Anette sings it like an angel. Both styles are wonderful. I think it's such a dynamic and magnificent song that the singing style really doesn't matter.
Y'all too hard on Anette. She has a totally different style from Tarja and Floor. She is more whimsical in an arpeggio sense. Tarja is overarching, floaty, ghostly and temporally playful to the point of a fault but not quite, sort of like Alicia Keys with her severe within-note pitch variance. Floor is temporally grounded to the note and supremely technically sound, sounding almost divine. Anette's only fault is only not having a strong enough vocals to transcend octaves and be sound in her falsetto ranges.That's why this version sounds lacking, because the chorus isn't sung in the intended higher octave. She probably couldn't falsetto and drag the note, and induce a steady vibrato like Floor and Tarja does perfectly. And the one thing Tarja and Floor have in common is that perfect vibrato and timing. But Anette did make this song her own. The best she could do given the situation. As you can see, Amaranth as a song is very different because it was designed to suit Anette, as Tuomas always does each and every singer. The most evident part is the chorus where there is a lot of flow between 2 notes. That is what Anette does best.
u are right anette is a good singer, and she did the best she could. but tarja is a tough act to follow and espesialy when the operatic singing style is so important in the sound picture. floor might have had a tougher time if she was to follow after tarja, but now most accept her, i think it is becourse she has it all :)

This is true. However Anette sometimes is a bit out of pitch, even in her own range. Which would NEVER happen to Tarja or Floor. They are in another league. And let's not forget the ending. Floor destroys every singer with this.
Anette didn't want to leave the band, she has said it clearly, that means something happened between them as well. Apparently Anette was sick or something and she couldn't sing for some time and Tuomas just decided to hire Floor a year before Anette left. Yep, he had planned "firing" Anette way before she left. Looks like he was just waiting for the right moment! :)

Back to when I first discovered that the band performs Ghost Love Score with their new vocalist, I was very very wary about it. After being able to witness this in high quality, I have to say that in my opinion, Ms. Olzon's vocals on this timeless song has only made it better and more emotional.
Each singer takes this song and makes it their own, and it's absolutely beautiful. We can also thank Anette for the lyrical improvisations at the end that Floor took and ran with. Tarja used to stop singing after her last "my fall will be before you" and just stepped off stage. (Not that she didn't deserve it, after smashing the rest of the song beforehand lol)
It's like asking Sarah Brightman to sing Nirvana, a song written for someone with classical training, it's just not suited to her voice. Despite that, she does a great job. Love her voice.

This is amazing! I'm proud of Anette, her voice improved so much over these years, that I think I've never seen any other such great and I'd say very fast improvement. Jeez, those high notes in the chorus gives me chills everytime I listen to her. I love the feeling of the light, purity and smile in her voice. And her scat singing at the end is so professional! With this song she proves that she is worth being a frontwoman of Nightwish. Geez, I wish they'll re-release this song with Anette...
I was expecting this to be terrible, but I was very happily surprised at how good this is. I really enjoy her delicate head voice and expressive interpretation of the melody. I love how Tarja, Annette, and Floor give such different and distinctive performances of the same songs.
Hands down this song is fantastic and has been fantastically performed. I heard Anette's first live performance of GLS in London and she sung it beautifully then to. All she has done is improve as time goes on. Wonderful video, thank you.

I always find myself coming back to this video. Anette's stage presence is just so positive and uplifting. She sounds absolutely beautiful and the vocalizing at the end brings me to tears. :) As a long time fan, I really can't say I have a favorite vocalist cause things like that are irrelevant if you're the fan of the actual BAND. Not just the vocalist.
I enjoyed this one much as well! Though there are some parts were I missed Tarja's voice, I can see clearly that this is a great performance. Love how people enjoyed it!! It's such an experience! I would really love to listen to this song live once in my life!!! But I'm from Argentina.... seems very difficult... As much as I don't quite like Annette, she did all she could with a song that is really hard to sing, and for that she deserves my respect and all of us's respect. We all know she's no soprano and she got into a band with a soprano ex-singer, so asking her to do something she obviously can't it's kinda foolish. I must admit this is not even close to some songs from Once that she sings, The Siren, Ever Dream and Dark Chest Of Wonders are my favorite ones. The bad thing is that Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum are only two records in Nightwish's history and in a concert you can't do only two albums, it would be quite boring, right? So Annette gets all my respect for putting up an amazing and hard song; and although she may have changed the rhythm a few times, she made an effort and as fans of the band we shouldn't be throwing shit at the singers, they all brought something different and great to the band.

According to you, who is a soprano, Anette is a light soprano. (light lyrical would be if she had lyrical training, Sara Brightman is light lyrical), a light soprano not trained in lyrical singing sounds childlike like Anette in her high zone, Tarja is a lyrical soprano, because her center is more powerful, and floor is a dramatic soprano because of the power of her voice in the entire range........

Can't exactly blame Anette for not being able to sing the song as good as Tarja or Floor, the song was written for Tarja and her vocal abilities, at least Anette tried and it was still good... can't blame her for being made to sing these songs, even Tarja struggled at times
man she's amazing when her voice is in good shape!!! I was a fan by the time she came in and hated the first shows but also understood that as a singer she needed time to settle to the songs! I met her back 2009 and she was great! great woman, great spirit, great voice! I have to agree with some of the comments about the versions of anette and floor being better than tarja's... tarja was the first to move me with this song but the calm in anette's voice here is just something to be really appreciated
This is ridiculous! Watching it for about the 100th time and it never gets old. I am dying for the DVD now!!!! And lets not forget a new album with more tour dates over here in the States ;)
Anette slayed this song. You may prefer other vocalists compared to her but don't dare to discredit her actual talent. That vocalizing at the end was pure magic and it still gives me goosebumps even after all these years!
The quality sucks. It may would have sounded better with better sound quality. I really love her in Imaginerium. Her personality just shines and it's one of my favorite Albums.

I really like this performance and I think it's one of Anette's best performances. Now I'm going to get some down votes but I prefer Anette's and Floor's versions over Tarja's (Anette is my favourite though). It just doesn't sound good when it's sung entierly with a classical technique. It needs more variety that Tarja can't give but that both Floor and Anette can give.
I agree with you here... I'm not sure Anette is my favurite though. I think Floor is so far. But definitely this song sounds much better with a more versatile voice. This one is great and Floor's even better. Tarja a hell of a singer anyway. No one can deny that fact. But just for some stuff.

Plus, I found Nightwish with her and they in turn were one of the first metal bands I listened to, so she kind of holds a special place in my heart. And yes, you're right. Tarja is a great singer, though she, like every singer, has limits. PS: I have seen all three singers live and all of them were awesome.

Doesn't matter who sings this song. It is ALWAYS amazing simply for the sheer power of the lyrics and instrumentation. The poetic imagery is wonderful and the musical arrangement itself.....breathtaking. Don't get me wrong, we wouldn't be able to grasp the lyrics without the singer, so they are an important component. The song wouldn't work without them, but they are only a PIECE of the WHOLE. And the whole is what I love. I really DO NOT CARE who sings it because the song itself is JUST THAT GOOD! i don't know what sort of fan that makes me, but.....there is my opinion.

NW should have shame of not do a DVD with Anette, The Dark Element is a great band and Anette bettered her voice, Also since her Kick of Nightwish in 2012 She looks happier and younger. Also the excesive hatebase to her started to calm off. So glad of that
This is my alltime favorite Nightwish song. Something about Tarja's voice gives me chills every time I hear the chorus, and the feeling is incredible. I'm going to see them perform next weekend and I really wish I could see what it would be like with Tarja on vocals.

Words cant describe how amazing this band is. The way they sound live, the lyrics, the vocals (love annette) and just everyone in the band who has such passion. Love this new version of GLS. Given yes the beginning is slightly shakey, but i think it needs to be sung that way cause then in the end where she sings in her key is just so powerful and epic. I love Nightwish and i hate that i live in the US cause i miss some of the greatest female fronted bands :( AMAZING QUALITY BTW!!

Its not that shes out of tune, its just how she does her pernounciations. That and the adrenaline high causes people to over breathe out, the diaphram is tensed also. So shes not "truly out of tune" its more so shes fighting her bodys responces to everything going on. To us it might be an octive high, which is usually the case for adrenaline rushes. I however go lower because my natrual voice is low. (I speak higher than I naturally am supposed to. Because how I was vocally trained. )
She goes off pitch frequently. In watching all three of them from phone recordings live (no edits), this was the first thing I immediately noticed. Tarja and Floor have almost perfect pitch, Annette went off pitch within the first 30 seconds I saw of her.
The way she sings th "Time to never hold on loooove" just gives me chills... I used to think that this would be the only old song I wouldn't like Anette to sing (and I'm an Anette lover all the way!),but they way she did it just gives me chills...Imagine that studio recorded,it would be trully amazing even if it didn't reach the epic level of Tarja's version...!

I think Annette was great in her own way with Nightwish she had songs that I really don't think floor could sing very well. Annette took a lot of heat taking over Tarja position. Despite the differences in all three girls that sing for nightwish they are all wonderful my opinion

This is amazing! I'm proud of Anette, her voice improved so much over these years, that I think I've never seen any other such great and I'd say very fast improvement. Jeez, those high notes in the chorus gives me chills everytime I listen to her. I love the feeling of the light, purity and smile in her voice. And her scat singing at the end is so professional! With this song she proves that she is worth being a frontwoman of Nightwish. Geez, I wish they'll re-release this song with Anette...

I was expecting this to be terrible, but I was very happily surprised at how good this is. I really enjoy her delicate head voice and expressive interpretation of the melody. I love how Tarja, Annette, and Floor give such different and distinctive performances of the same songs.
Hands down this song is fantastic and has been fantastically performed. I heard Anette's first live performance of GLS in London and she sung it beautifully then to. All she has done is improve as time goes on. Wonderful video, thank you.

I always find myself coming back to this video. Anette's stage presence is just so positive and uplifting. She sounds absolutely beautiful and the vocalizing at the end brings me to tears. :) As a long time fan, I really can't say I have a favorite vocalist cause things like that are irrelevant if you're the fan of the actual BAND. Not just the vocalist.
I enjoyed this one much as well! Though there are some parts were I missed Tarja's voice, I can see clearly that this is a great performance. Love how people enjoyed it!! It's such an experience! I would really love to listen to this song live once in my life!!!
But I'm from Argentina.... seems very difficult... Last time they came they played almost DDP songs and a couple of the previous songs...

As much as I don't quite like Annette, she did all she could with a song that is really hard to sing, and for that she deserves my respect and all of us's respect. We all know she's no soprano and she got into a band with a soprano ex-singer, so asking her to do something she obviously can't it's kinda foolish. I must admit this is not even close to some songs from Once that she sings, The Siren, Ever Dream and Dark Chest Of Wonders are my favorite ones. The bad thing is that Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum are only two records in Nightwish's history and in a concert you can't do only two albums, it would be quite boring, right? So Annette gets all my respect for putting up an amazing and hard song; and although she may have changed the rhythm a few times, she made an effort and as fans of the band we shouldn't be throwing shit at the singers, they all brought something different and great to the band.

According to you, who is a soprano, Anette is a light soprano. (light lyrical would be if she had lyrical training, Sara Brightman is light lyrical), a light soprano not trained in lyrical singing sounds childlike like Anette in her high zone, Tarja is a lyrical soprano, because her center is more powerful, and floor is a dramatic soprano because of the power of her voice in the entire range........
I have always said that I like Floor's version of this song the best but honestly I'm not sure. Somehow I keep coming back to this one and the way she improvises at the end gives me chills
Its true she invented the change at the end and it goes for Anette. Im surprised how good she souned in this song actually. Better than expected for sure.

Can't exactly blame Anette for not being able to sing the song as good as Tarja or Floor, the song was written for Tarja and her vocal abilities, at least Anette tried and it was still good... can't blame her for being made to sing these songs, even Tarja struggled at times
man she's amazing when her voice is in good shape!!! I was a fan by the time she came in and hated the first shows but also understood that as a singer she needed time to settle to the songs! I met her back 2009 and she was great! great woman, great spirit, great voice!
I have to agree with some of the comments about the versions of anette and floor being better than tarja's... tarja was the first to move me with this song but the calm in anette's voice here is just something to be really appreciated
This is ridiculous! Watching it for about the 100th time and it never gets old. I am dying for the DVD now!!!! And lets not forget a new album with more tour dates over here in the States ;)

Anette slayed this song. You may prefer other vocalists compared to her but don't dare to discredit her actual talent. That vocalizing at the end was pure magic and it still gives me goosebumps even after all these years!
The quality sucks. It may would have sounded better with better sound quality. I really love her in Imaginerium. Her personality just shines and it's one of my favorite Albums.

I love her performance of this song!! I think I know why they hired her. Putting aside the obvious vocal differences, she has something that Tarja also has: Passion.
I really like this performance and I think it's one of Anette's best performances. Now I'm going to get some down votes but I prefer Anette's and Floor's versions over Tarja's (Anette is my favourite though). It just doesn't sound good when it's sung entierly with a classical technique. It needs more variety that Tarja can't give but that both Floor and Anette can give.

But definitely this song sounds much better with a more versatile voice. This one is great and Floor's even better.

Well, Anette's singing (almost) always gives me goosebumps. That's why she is my favourite, even though I know that Floor is technically superior to her.
Plus, I found Nightwish with her and they in turn were one of the first metal bands I listened to, so she kind of holds a special place in my heart.
And yes, you're right. Tarja is a great singer, though she, like every singer, has limits.
PS: I have seen all three singers live and all of them were awesome.

Doesn't matter who sings this song. It is ALWAYS amazing simply for the sheer power of the lyrics and instrumentation. The poetic imagery is wonderful and the musical arrangement itself.....breathtaking. Don't get me wrong, we wouldn't be able to grasp the lyrics without the singer, so they are an important component. The song wouldn't work without them, but they are only a PIECE of the WHOLE. And the whole is what I love. I really DO NOT CARE who sings it because the song itself is JUST THAT GOOD! i don't know what sort of fan that makes me, but.....there is my opinion.

The Dark Element is a great band and Anette bettered her voice, Also since her Kick of Nightwish in 2012 She looks happier and younger.
Also the excesive hatebase to her started to calm off. So glad of that
This is my alltime favorite Nightwish song. Something about Tarja's voice gives me chills every time I hear the chorus, and the feeling is incredible. I'm going to see them perform next weekend and I really wish I could see what it would be like with Tarja on vocals.

Words cant describe how amazing this band is. The way they sound live, the lyrics, the vocals (love annette) and just everyone in the band who has such passion. Love this new version of GLS. Given yes the beginning is slightly shakey, but i think it needs to be sung that way cause then in the end where she sings in her key is just so powerful and epic. I love Nightwish and i hate that i live in the US cause i miss some of the greatest female fronted bands :( AMAZING QUALITY BTW!!

am i the only one who thinks she sounds out of tune at some parts? no offense to anette she's a wonderful singer and i really like her nightwish songs but i don't thi nk that she can keep up with tarjas songs
+Joel Flink Even Floor in some not-edited performances is out of tune. c'mon!
Its not that shes out of tune, its just how she does her pernounciations.
That and the adrenaline high causes people to over breathe out, the diaphram is tensed also.
So shes not "truly out of tune" its more so shes fighting her bodys responces to everything going on.
To us it might be an octive high, which is usually the case for adrenaline rushes.
I however go lower because my natrual voice is low. (I speak higher than I naturally am supposed to. Because how I was vocally trained. )
She goes off pitch frequently. In watching all three of them from phone recordings live (no edits), this was the first thing I immediately noticed. Tarja and Floor have almost perfect pitch, Annette went off pitch within the first 30 seconds I saw of her.
The way she sings th "Time to never hold on loooove" just gives me chills... I used to think that this would be the only old song I wouldn't like Anette to sing (and I'm an Anette lover all the way!),but they way she did it just gives me chills...Imagine that studio recorded,it would be trully amazing even if it didn't reach the epic level of Tarja's version...!
@emil9412 actually she DID quote "No band should sing in Greece", probably because of the sound problems NW had during the concert.She said sth similar about France, too. I don't remember the related blog, but you can easily find it with a search.

Awesome, love Nettie's version! I had a hunch she could pull this one off from the very first time I heard the 'mother and father' part in the 'Poet and The Pendulum', that piece is so incredibly heart-tugging. O.k., I'm so proud of her for being able to pull this off!

I think Annette was great in her own way with Nightwish she had songs that I really don't think floor could sing very well. Annette took a lot of heat taking over Tarja position. Despite the differences in all three girls that sing for nightwish they are all wonderful my opinion
