  • Today we are in the Garden of Hesper Ali-Darsoo, a master grower and wonderful landscaper(apologies for the heavy breathing, my sinus was acting up, maybe it was due to our little feline friend that accompanied us during filming)

    A beautiful garden. I'm just getting into Bromeliads, my only fear is how quickly they multiply. Therefore if your yard space is small you could have a problem. Love them all and the varieties are just so wide.

      Not all produce pups quickly. It depends on the type. Plus any extras can make great gifts

      Hey Vene, somehow, this message slipped by me. I apologise for the late reply, I'm sure you found out by now. If not, you can try Tropiflora out of florida.

    In the '90s, bromeliads were very popular in the Philippines. But for some reasons, its popularity faded. However, I have some pieces at home. I find them lovely and easy to take care.

    I have now started growing bromeliads and will love to know how to take care of them. Your garden is very colourful and I love the different varieties you have of which I'm dying to get.

    • @gardenscapedesigns
      @gardenscapedesigns  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Alexia, the care is very simple, keep the cups clean and filled with water and the roots in a well draining medium like wood chips. They get the majority of their nutrients from the cups unlike other plants. You can wet the roots maybe once a week if you would like but just focus on keeping the cups filled and the potting medium well drained. For fertilizer, you can use a granular slow release fertilizer like osmocote. Start with a little fertiliser to see how the plant responds. Any other questions you can check out our Facebook page where we have videos answering common questions.

    • @alexiarichards4477
      @alexiarichards4477 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the info. I have my bromeliads planted in dirt and have been watering them too often. However I do keep their cups full. I will now try your medium. I have 7 different types of bromeliads and will be collecting some more. I love them all. Blessings

    • @gardenscapedesigns

  • @Afonso_Guest_House

    Omg this is simply divine to watch! Could you kindly mention what is the soil mix to ensure success like the bromiliads thriving in this video? Thanks so much

    • @gardenscapedesigns
      @gardenscapedesigns  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello, the potting mix is mainly wood chips alone. Some add a little promix soil at a ratio at about 5/1 or 6/1(the higher number being the wood chips), but it's not necessary. Bromeliads are epiphytes , so the majority of the nutrients are absorbed from the cups of the plant. Your main consideration is to keep clean water in the cups and the roots mainly dry, hence the wood chips that drain water well. There are however some terrestrial bromeliads that can grow in soil.
